<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
1 - préparation physico-chimique de la face inférieure (14) du fond (10) en acier inoxydable ;
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

The present invention relates to a method for the manufacture of cooking vessels, such as cooking pots, pots, pans and the like, formed by a stainless steel plate or sheet which forms the bottom as well as the walls of the vessel, and provided with a "sub-base" or an outer base of relatively great thickness, constructed of a metal or a metallic alloy having high thermal conductivity, particularly, but not exclusively, aluminum or alloy
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
based'aluminum, or possibly copper or copper alloy.
It is well known that stainless steel vessels or cooking vessels with a high nickel and chromium content have great advantages for their stainless steel, chemical resistance, resistance and durability. On the other hand, they have the drawback of a low coefficient of thermal conductivity of stainless steel, which can give rise to localizations in the reheating, for example in the points licked by the flame or however. closer to the heat source.
These drawbacks can give rise, for example, to deformation of the bottom, when there is not, in the interior of the vessel, a sufficient mass of liquid, to localized burns of the contents during cooking, or others.
It is also well known that these drawbacks can be eliminated by applying, against the underside of the bottom made of stainless steel, a layer, having a substantial thickness, made of metal or else of a metal alloy having a high coefficient of thermal conductivity, in such a way that, through said layer, the heat spreads uniformly over the entire surface of the bottom of the vessel.
It is, however, as well known as stainless steel for its physico-chemical characteristics, can only be connected and welded with great difficulty to other metals, so that the application of sub-bases of a a certain thickness, for example two millimeters or more, is quite difficult, and it requires the application of peripheral bands, welded internal networks, or other means of mechanical connection. The copper coatings and the like, carried out by treating the surface coating, allow the formation of sub-bases with a thickness limited to a maximum of a few tenths of a millimeter,
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
and therefore of low efficiency.
The essential object of the invention is the production of vases or cooking vessels of the type indicated, which are provided with a thermo-diffusing base of a relatively large thickness and which is, in an intimate manner. , solid and very stable, united to the stainless steel bottom, so as to allow the perfect transmission of heat and to guarantee the resistance to thermal variations, to shocks and to mechanical stresses in the composite structure formed in the part. bottom of the vessel by the stratification consisting of the bottom in stainless steel and the sub-bottom in material with high conductivity.
This goal. is reached;,; according to the invention, forming the sub-base, with a high thickness and high thermal conductivity, by means of a transfer material which is applied to the stainless steel base, after the preparation of the lower surface of this base, so as to eliminate the original conditions of the stainless steel surface which oppose the bond with another metallic material.
This preparation can be done by training first. an internal layer of thin, thickness, obtained by employing already known methods of surface coating, and which, in turn, forms a new surface whose physical characteristics are such as to allow the perfect adhesion of the thermo-metallic material -conductive, brought into contact with said other surface, in the state of fusion.
Alternatively, said conditions which oppose the bonding of stainless steel with another metallic material can be eliminated physically, or by subjecting the surface of the stainless steel to mechanical treatment, for example. blasting, which causes corrosion and breakage of the surface, so as to energetically bond the transfer material to the stainless steel.
In addition, the prior processing and preparation of "
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
the lower surface of the stainless steel bottom can preferably be associated with its pre-arrangement under particularly favorable thermal conditions, by means of heating, with the reception of the transfer material, in the molten state, and this at a very high temperature, so as to prevent such a transfer material from solidifying immediately on contact with the stainless steel, before the intimate is established, and complete adhesion between the materials. heterogeneous metals.
In particular, the application of the transfer thermoconductive metallic material, carried out by bringing the said material in contact with the prepared lower surface of the stainless steel or with its surface coating, and preferably preheated. , is obtained by using the so-called "dust metallization" system, and which consists, as is already known, in projecting against the surface to be metallized, or in covering, a jet of droplets in molten metal or the thermally conductive metal alloy.
Other details and features of the invention will emerge from the description below, given without limitation and with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
FIG. 1 represents, in vertical and diametral section, the lower part of a vessel for cooking, for example a frying pan, produced according to the method of the invention.
Figure 2 shows, in a similar way, the same pan, in which the various layers are detached from each other, to allow a clearer understanding of the peculiarities and technical effects of the method of l 'invention.
As has already been said, the method of the invention aims to obtain the formation, below the bottom (10), of stainless steel sheet or plate, which also forms the walls (11) of the vase, with a base or layer (12), of substantial thickness, for example two or three millimeters, made of metal or a metal alloy of a
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
high thermal conductivity, preferably aluminum or aluminum alloy.
In order to obtain the mechanical connection between the upper surface (13) of the sub-base (12) and the lower surface (14) of the stainless steel plate (which only connects with difficulty to other metals ), a middle layer (15) has been formed, able to adhere to said face (14) (FIG. 2), which, in turn, can form, by its lower face, a face (16) of which the physicochemical characteristics are suitable for ensuring the most complete adhesion and connection with the upper face (13) of the sub-base (12).
In general, the method comprises three series of successive operations:
1 - physico-chemical preparation of the lower face (14) of the bottom (10) in stainless steel;
2 - formation of the middle layer (15), of thin thickness, and
3 - formation of the actual sub-base (12).
The first phase comprises operations of degreasing or stripping said face (14) (to remove any substance this grease which may prejudge the adhesion of the metal) and of physical preparation to make rough, for example by sandblasting. , or treatment with emery cloth of a rather coarse grain.
The formation of the central layer can be carried out by known methods, for example by means of deposition of copper, tin, zinc, cadmium or other means of coating on the surface with a metal layer of limited thickness.
Preferably, and in order to successfully obtain the sub-base by jet metallization, the internal bonding layer between the. base (10) and the sub-base (12) can be obtained in the same way by jet metallization, carried out however with the base (10) more heated, for example from 450 to 500 C, preferably at approximately
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
480 ±, in the case of formation of layers (15) and (12) with aluminum or aluminum alloy. This temperature: high; The thermal gradient between the projected molten droplets and the face (14) which receives them is reduced to very low values, so that said droplets can connect intimately to said face (141.
The thin thickness of the layer (15) having formed at the beginning does not allow the bonding or all the same the movement of the supplied metal.
The resulting surface (16) can accommodate the jet of the molten material even at lower temperatures, for example on the order of 300 -350 ° C, preferably about 315 ° C. The spray of the droplets in fusion is therefore continued in a regular and uniform manner until. to obtain the sub-base (12) at the desired thickness.
The treatment at lower temperatures does not allow, moreover, that deformations and especially sinks occur in the stainless steel base (10), which would give rise to a non-constant thickness in the sub-base ( 12), the underside of which can preferably be subsequently worked with a machine tool, for example by turning, to obtain a perfectly flat smooth surface and a regular and well-profiled contour.
It has also been observed that with the use of an internal layer (15), which can connect closely both to the underside (14), prepared in stainless steel, as to the actual sub-base (12 ), said sub-base is connected to stainless steel in such a strong way that it can withstand even the work of turning and does not come off, even as a result of many and strong variations in temperature, sudden shaking of the mud and other thermal, chemical or mechanical causes which tend to cause its detachment.
