"Improvements made to meters to measure lcngueurs"
In French patent No. 695881, a counter for measuring lengths has been described comprising drums each provided with a tooth or projection playing the role of a cam and acting on corresponding levers by determining the clearance of the drum or of the drum. triggering device of the counter
Two arrangements have been made in said French patent for codifying the position of the teeth with respect to the drum. In one of these embodiment codes, each drum is provided with a peripheral series of holes and the tooth can be screwed or driven into any of these holes.
In the other embodiment, the tooth is attached to a

Figures 3 and 4 are corresponding views of the second embodiment.
Fig. 5 shows the general arrangement of the counter apparatus according to said French patent in which the device according to the present invention can be applied.
Fig. 6 shows a variant of the arrangement shown in FIG. 5.
Referring firstly to Figures 1 and 2, we see at A a drum which carries two rings 1, on which are fixed the teeth 2. Each of the rings 1 is mounted on the same axis as the drum A and can rotate. compared to this one. The rings can, on the other hand, be immobilized relative to the drum A in any desired position. For this purpose, each ring 1 is provided with an inner annular rim 60, interrupted by a number of openings 61 (ten in the example shown). A rod 64, carried by the drum A penetrates, by its inner end, into a housing 67, provided in the inner part of the drum, its outer end passing through a hole 68, and being accessible from the outside.
This Lige 64 wears a transverse bar 62,

The rings 1 therefore cannot rotate with respect to the drum A. If we want to curve the rings 1 author of the shaft 10 of the drum so- - To modify the position of the teeth 2, the rod 64 is pushed inwards by acting on its end using any suitable tool, so as to bring out the openings 61 the bar 62 by overcoming the action of the spring 65.
When pushing the inner end of the rod
64 in the housing 67, the two ends of the bar 62 will be free from the openings 61 and will be placed in the notches 59 provided on both sides of said housing 67.
Then, we can freely rotate the rings 1 around the shaft 10 by inserting for example a suitable cutil such as a punch in the notches 66, provided on the periphery of the rings 1. When the desired position is reached, the rod 64 rises under the action of the spring 63 and the bar 62 is placed in new openings 61 by immobilizing the rings 1.
In FIGS. 3 and 4, another embodiment has been shown in which two rings 1, each carrying a tooth 2, can run on an extension, 70, of the counter drum.
The inner periphery of each ring 1 is cut in the form of saw teeth between which the end of a pin 71 engages, urged outwards by

It is evident that, in the position shown in FIG. 3, the ring is blocked and that it can only be turned in the desired direction by applying it with sufficient force to overcome the action of the spring. 72.
It must be understood that the direction in which the Gent 2 must act on the lever 4 (figs. 5 and b) is opposite to the direction in which the ring can be rotated to change the position of the tooth.
The device shown also makes it possible to control more than two trips and can be used to accomplish auxiliary operations in addition to those which have been considered.
With the embodiment of FIGS. 1 and 2, one of the rings can be used, for example, for triggering the stop and the other for triggering the signal preceding the stop.
The embodiment of Figures 3 and 4 allows, on the other hand, to use as many rings as desired, so as to be able to control, in addition to the stop and the signal preceding the stop, all other signals that can be
