<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
Fig.1 est une coupe longitudinale à travers un type de râpe à fromage construite suivant l'invention;
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

Cheese grater.
The present invention relates to an improved type of grater, and especially to a portable type of cheese grater, and it is primarily intended to provide a portable utensil of the aforementioned kind which can be employed for grating cheese or the like directly on the surface. dishes or in suitable containers, avoiding contact either of the cheese or of the rolling parts of the mechanism with the operator's hands.
Is this item achieved by enclosing all parts? essential of the mechanism, so that the piece of cheese in a completely closed casing or box, in which the piece to be grated is pressed by a suitable plate against the grating surface. This ràante surface, in the preferred example shown, consists of a ribbon silk blade of appropriate length, suitably wound in a plane spiral around a rotating member, and eccentric with respect to the axis of rotation so that the râ - page is produced by a continuous or reciprocating rotational movement of this part, while the pressure plate in front of it can only slide along the envelope, against the grating surface.
In addition, the sliding plate is provided on its outer surface with sharp points intended to prevent the workpiece from falling.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
grate can slide against the surface itself.
Another feature of the invention consists in that all the rolling parts, as well as the part to be grated, always remain out of contact with the hands.
A preferred embodiment of the invention is described below with reference to the accompanying drawings .. in which:
Fig.1 is a longitudinal section through a type of cheese grater constructed according to the invention;
Fig.2 shows by one half the grating member, seen from its axis of rotation, and by the other half a section along the line II-II of Fig.l, seen in the direction of the arrows; Fig.3 is a similar section along line II of Fig.2, but seen in the opposite direction to the direction of the arrows; and
Fig. 4 is a view of the drawing of the grater with portions in section.
In all the figures of the drawings, analogous or corresponding parts are indicated by the same numbers.
The cheese grating utensil comprises an elongated envelope 1, generally prismatic, but in any case of constant section, which is hexagonal in the example shown. This envelope or box ends at one of its ends with a mushroom or cap bottom 2, part 3 of which is cut for the reason that we will see. better then.
In the central part of this bottom 2 is formed a hole in which is housed a pillow bearing 4 in which is pivotally mounted a @ short spindle 5 projecting from both sides of the bearing and carrying fixed to the inner part a hub 6 for example by means of a pressure screw 8 and on the outer part a wing nut 7 or other control member by hand, on the hub 6 are radially fixed a number of curved stripes 9, forming a support for a grooved rim 10, generally metallic and coaxial with the hub 6, to this rim 10 are subject, in any suitable manner, a certain number of radial rods 11, the inner ends of which are free and terminate towards the hub, These rods, four in number can be example illustrated,
are intended
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
to keep in place and support the ripant member 12 constituted by a band saw blade, pierced with a suitable number of holes aligned along its length and able to pass easily over the radial rods 11, so that by threading through these holes successively the aforementioned rods, the saw blade is wound at the end in a plane spiral eccentric relative to the spindle 5 with its teeth at the front. Of course it is convenient, even in this case, that the teeth of the saw are alternately bent somewhat on both sides, as shown schematically in the part indicated by 15, in Fig, 2,
In the lower part of the envelope,
near the cap base 2, holes 16 are made to allow the grated cheese to exit. In addition, towards this very base, a number of projecting stops 17 are applied in the casing 1.
In the envelope 1 is slidably mounted with play a plate 18 following the internal contour of the envelope and with an edge 19 folded in at the front. The surface of this plate 18 has a large number of spikes, preferably formed by punching a large number of holes 20, in the manner of a conventional cheese grating plate. envelope l is closed on the side opposite to the cap 2 with a rounded bottom 21 hinged at 22 and being able to be kept closed by a spring hook 23, in the ballast envelope * a conical compression spring 24, inserted between the plate 18 and the bottom 21, and a.ccrocné to these two parts respectively at 26 and 25, To the casing 1 are applied suitable feet 27,
intended to support the utensil when resting on a table,
The operation of the device is obvious:
When the grating is empty, the flange 19 of the plate 18 pushed by the spring 24. is stopped in a suitable position, out of contact with the rasping surface 12 by the stops 17. When you want to grate a part, for example, from cheese, we open the hinged cover 21, we extract the spring and the plate 18 and we
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
introduce the piece to be grated into the casing, pushing it inside until it meets the.
rapante face formed by the teeth of the wound blade 12, Then the plate 18 is introduced again into the casing and the domed bottom 21 is closed by suitably compressing the spring 24, so that the latter pushes constantly the sliding plate and the cheese piece against the grinding surface 12, then holding the box 1 with one hand, the openings 3 and 16 at the bottom and turning the control handle 7 continuously or alternately, the The sawtooth of part 12 will grate the cheese properly and the cuts will fall through openings 16 and 3.
It is also evident that, thanks to the points outside, the puncturing of the holes 20 in the plate 18 results in the cheese not being able to slide on this plate,
The opening 3 is mainly used for cleaning and the assembly and disassembly of the rapant part, ie. that comprising the hub 6 and attached parts 9-10-11, as well as to be able to clean or change the saw blade 10,
It remains understood that the embodiment of the rasp which has just been described could be suitably varied, without however going beyond the limits of the invitation.
