<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

"Supporting structure for a roller of a sliding door and sliding door thus equipped"
The present invention relates to the field of sliding doors, of the type used, for example, for hermetically closing refrigerating chambers, comprising a sliding panel by means of auxiliary rollers on a rolling track fixed to a fixed frame.
In particular, the invention relates to a support structure for a roller of a sliding door, characterized in that it comprises a one-piece body, of plastic material, having a first, horizontal branch, and a second branch, vertical, which form an L shape so as to be able to wrap a corner part of a door panel, a hole for the passage of an axis having a free distal end to support the roller, and at least one opening for the passage of means for connecting the body to the door panel formed in this body.
The body in one piece and forming part of the supporting structure of the invention has the advantage that it can be manufactured quickly and inexpensively, for example by injection molding, while having all the characteristics of mechanical strength, of resistance corrosion, atmospheric agents, etc. necessary for this use.
In a preferred embodiment, the supporting structure of the present invention also comprises a support which can be mounted on the upper edge of the panel, the body comprising adjoining means for adjusting its vertical position relative to
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
support and panel. The adjustment means preferably comprise a screw passing through a hole formed in the horizontal branch of the body and engaging a threaded hole in the support.
In this way, appropriate adjustments can be made when the supporting structure is mounted, so as to compensate for any lack of precision caused by manufacturing tolerances during the manufacture of the separate elements, thereby ensuring that in operation the panel slides correctly along the fixed raceway.
The present invention also includes a sliding door which has a supporting structure of the type described above.
Other details and particularities of the invention will emerge from the secondary claims and from the description of the drawings which are annexed to the present specification and which illustrate, by way of nonlimiting examples, an embodiment of a support structure according to the invention and a sliding door provided with said supporting structure.

Figure 2 is a perspective view of a body, bearing roller, which is part of the supporting structure of the invention.
Figure 3 is a cross section taken along line III-III of Figure 1.

In the various figures, the same reference notations designate identical or analogous elements.
A door, to be used for example to close a refrigerated room, comprises a sliding panel 10 with rollers 12 (only one of these is shown in FIG. 1), mounted at its upper corners to allow it to slide on a running track 14 fixed to a chassis 16.
Each roller 12 is supported by a respective support structure positioned at a corresponding upper corner of the panel 10 and comprising a support 15 and a body 18 made of a plastic part (FIGS. 1 to 3).
The support 15 is positioned (FIG. 3) in the internal cavity of a box shape 17 which projects from the upper edge of the panel 10. The support 15 has a substantially C shape, with two wings 19a, 19b connected by a middle part 21.
A threaded hole 23 is formed in the wing 19a so as, as will be explained in detail below, that the position of the body 18 is adjusted relative to the panel 10 while another hole 25 is formed in the wing 19b for the screw 27 which connects the support 15 to the panel 10.
The one-piece body 18 (FIG. 2) comprises a first branch 20, horizontal, and a second branch 22, vertical, connected in an L shape and made for example of nylon reinforced with glass fibers.
The horizontal branch 20 (FIG. 3) is formed by a central part 24 which supports at its end a pair of flanges 28 which face each other and whose lower parts cover the part of the box shape 17 contiguous to the corner of the panel 10.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
The vertical branch 22 (FIGS. 4 and 5) has substantially an H shape in cross section and comprises a central part 26 and two lateral wings 30 which face each other and which are perpendicular to the central part 26.
A hole 32 is formed in the horizontal branch 20 (FIG. 3) and its axis extends in the direction determined by the width of the central part 24 and through this hole is mounted an axis 34 with a free distal end on which the roller 12 is mounted so that it can rotate freely.
Another hole 38 is formed in the central part 24 of the branch 20 and its axis extends in the direction determined by the thickness of this central part 24.
The central part 26 of the vertical branch 22 has a plurality of elongated openings 40 which open along the length of the central part 26.
The edge of the lower elongated openings 40 is surrounded by a continuous projection 42 which projects from the side, from the central part 26, intended to face the panel 10. The side walls of the holes 32, 38 and the elongated openings 40 are also covered by respective metal inserts 44, 46, 48.
Now follows a description of the mounting of the support structure of the invention, on an upper corner of the panel 10, which is formed so as to allow the structure to be correctly positioned with respect to the raceway 14 and to the chassis 16.
First, the support 15 is fixed to the upper edge of the panel 10 by the screw 27.
Then, an adjustment screw 54 is mounted in the hole 38, in the horizontal branch 20 of the body 18, and screwed into the corresponding threaded hole 23 of the
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
support 15, thereby limiting upward movements of the body 18 relative to the panel 10 so that the roller 12 is in the desired position relative to the upper edge of the panel 10.
At this stage, the position of the body 18 relative to the panel 10 is fixed by screwing the screws 58, which pass through the respective elongated openings 40 of the vertical branch 22, in threaded holes 60 formed in a metal plate 62, fixed at the edge of the panel 10 which faces the vertical branch 22, and in the middle part 21 of the support 15.
In addition, another metal plate 64, comprising holes 66 through which the screws 58 pass, is positioned on the face of the central part 26 of the vertical branch 22, which is opposite to that which faces the panel 10. The plate 64 and the inserts 48 therefore prevent any direct contact between the screws 58 and the plastic material forming the body 18 and which would lead in time to damage. The inserts 44 and 46 respectively, in the holes 32 and 38, perform the same function.
FIG. 6 shows an alternative embodiment of the support structure according to the present invention and the same references as those which are used in the preceding drawings indicate elements which are the same or equivalent.
This other embodiment was designed in particular to allow a body 18 in one piece and bearing roller to be mounted on an existing door structure which does not have a box shape and protruding from the upper edge of the panel door.
In this embodiment, the support 15 has a box structure with a flattened bar 65 extending from there parallel to the second
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
vertical branch 22 of the body 18, having a plurality of holes 67 and carrying threaded rods 68 adapted to pass through elongated openings 40 for connection to the body 18.
A supporting structure of the latter type is mounted by first fixing the support 15 and its adjoining bar 65 to the panel 10 by screws (not shown) which pass through the holes 67 of the bar 65 and which engage in holes 71 from panel 10.
The vertical position of the body 18 relative to the support 15 and to the panel 10 is then adjusted as in the previous case. That is to say that the screw 54 is tightened to a greater or lesser extent in the threaded hole 23 of the support 15, after having been passed through the hole 38 (not visible in FIG. 6) of the branch 20 of the body 18, thereby limiting movements of the body 18 upwards relative to the panel 10.
The position of the body 18 is then fixed by screwing respective nuts 70 onto the threaded rods 68 which project through the elongated openings 40 of the body 18.
The support 15 is thereby wrapped by the flanges 28 of the horizontal branch 20 of the body 18 while the bar 65 is wrapped by the parts of the wings 30 of the vertical branch 22 which face the panel 10.
It should be understood that the invention is in no way limited to the embodiments described and that many modifications can be made to these without departing from the scope of the present invention.
