Description
DESCRIPTION
The present invention relates to the field of sliding doors, of the type used, for example, to hermetically seal refrigeration chambers and including a panel sliding by means of associated rollers on a track fixed to a fixed frame.
In particular, the present invention relates to a support structure for a roller for a sliding door, characterised in that it includes a one-piece body of plastics material, having a first, horizontal, limb and a second, vertical, limb which form an L-shape so as to be able to enclose a corner portion of the door panel, a hole for the passage of a shaft having a free distal end for supporting the roller and at least one aperture for the passage of means for connecting the body to the door panel formed in this body.
The one-piece body forming part of the support structure of the invention has the advantage that it can be manufactured - for example by injection moulding quickly and inexpensively while possessing all the characteristics of mechanical strength, imperviousness to corrosion, to atmospheric agents and the like required for this use.
In a preferred embodiment, the support structure of the present invention also includes a bracket mountable on the upper edge of the panel, the body having associated means for adjusting its vertical position relative to the bracket and the panel. The adjustment means preferably include a screw passing through a hole formed in the horizontal limb of the body and engaging a threaded hole in the bracket.
In this way suitable adjustments may be made when the support structure is fitted, so as to compensate for any lack of precision caused by manufacturing tolerances when working the individual parts, thereby ensuring that in operation the panel slides correctly along the fixed track.
The present invention also comprehends a sliding door which includes a support structure of the type described above.
Further advantages and characteristics of the present invention will become apparent from the following detailed description, made with reference to the appended drawings, provided by way of non limitative example, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a sliding door provided with a roller support structure according to the invention,
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the roller-support body which forms part of the support structure of the invention
Figure 3 is a cross section taken on the line III
III of Figure 1,
Figures 4 and 5 are sections taken on the lines IV
IV and V-V respectively of Figure 2, and
Figure 6 is a perspective view of a sliding door provided with an alternative embodiment of the support structure.
A door, for use for example to close a refrigerated chamber, includes a sliding panel 10 with rollers 12 (only one of which is shown in Figure 1) mounted on its upper corners to enable it to slide on a track 14 fixed to a frame 16.
Each roller 12 is supported by a respective support structure, positioned on a corresponding upper corner of the panel 10 and including a bracket 15 and a one-piece body 18 of plastics material (Figures 1-3).
The bracket 15 is positioned (Figure 3) in the inner cavity of a box section 17 which projects from the upper edge of the panel 10. The bracket 15 is substantially Cshape, with two arms 19a, 19b connected by a middle portion 21.
A threaded hole 23 is formed in the arm 19a so as to enable - as will be explained in detail below - the position of the body 18 to be adjusted relative to the panel 10, while another hole 25 is formed in the arm 19b for the screw 27 connecting the bracket 15 to the panel 10.
The one-piece body 18 (Figure 2) has a first, horizontal, limb 20 and a second, vertical, limb 22 joined in an L shape and may be made, for example, of nylon reinforced with glass fibres.
The horizontal limb 20 (Figure 3) is formed by a central portion 24 which supports at its ends a pair of facing cheeks 28 the lower portions of which cover the portion of the box section 17 adjacent the corner of the panel 10.
The vertical limb 22 (Figure 4, 5) is substantially Hshape in cross section, having a central particri 26 and two lateral, facing arms 30, perpendicular to te arbmo portion 26.
A hole 32 is formed in the horizontal limb 20 (Figure 3) with its axis extending in the direction defined by the width of the central portion 24 and through which a shaft 34 is fitted with a free distal end, onto which the roller 12 is freely rotatably mounted.
A further hole 38 is formed in the central portion 24 of the limb 20 with its axis extending in the direction defined by the thickness of this central portion 24.
u central portion 26 of the vertical limb 22 has a plurality of elongate apertures 40 which open along the length of the antm portion 26.
The edge of the lower elongate apertures 40 is surrounded by a continuous projection 42 which projects from the side of the anbmo portian 26 intended to face the panel 10. The side walls of the holes 32, 38 and the elongate apertures 40 are also covered by respective metal inserts 44, 46, 48.
A description now follows of the mounting of the support structure of the invention on an upper corner of the panel 10, which is formed so as to allow the structure to be correctly positioned relative to the track 14 and the frame 16.
Firstly, the bracket 15 is fixed to the upper edge of the panello w ee screw 27.
Next, an adjustment screw 54 is fitted into the hole 38 in the horizontal limb 20 of the body 18 and screwed into the corresponding threaded hole 23 in the bracket 15, thereby limiting upward excursions of the body 18 relative to the panel 10 so that the roller 12 is in the desired position relative to the upper edge of the panel 10.
At this point, the position of the body 18 relative to the panel 10 is fixed by screwing the screws 58, which pass through the respective elongate apertures 40 of the vertical limb 22, into threaded holes 60 formed in a metal plate 62 fixed to the edge of the panel 10 facing the vertical limb 22 and into the middle portion 21 of the bracket 15.
In addition, another metal plate 64, having holes 66 through which the screws 58 pass, is positioned on the face of the central padim 26 of the vertical limb 22 opposite that facing the panel 10. The plate 64 and the inserts 48 thus prevent any direct contact between the screws 58 and the plastics material forming the body 18, which in the long run would result in damage. The inserts 44andA6:paativeiyinitelesarxi 38 carry out the same function.
Figure 6 shows an alternative embodiment of the support structure according to the present invention and the same numbers as those used with reference to the preceding drawings indicate parts which are the same or equivalent.
This further embodiment has been designed in particular to enable a one-piece roller-carrying body 18 to be mounted on an existing door structure which does not have a box section projecting from the upper edge of the door panel.
In this embodiment, the bracket 15 has a box structure with a flattened bar 65 extending therefrom parallel to the second vertical limb 22 of the body 18, having a plurality of holes 67 and carrying threaded pins 68 adapted to pass through the elongate apertures 40 for connection to the body 18.
A support structure of this latter type is mounted by first fixing the bracket 15 adib associated bar 65 to the panel 10 by screws not illustrated which pass through the holes 67 in the bar 65 and engage holes 71 in the panel 10.
The vertical position of the body 18 relative to the bracket 15 and the panel 10 is then adjusted as in the preceding case. That is the screw 54 is tightened to a greater or lesser extent in the threaded hole 23 in the bracket 15, after passing through the hole 38 (not visible in Figure 6) of the limb 20 of the body 18, thereby limiting upwards excursions of the body 18 relative to the panel 10.
The position of the body 18 is then fixed by screwing respective nuts 70 onto the threaded pins 68 which project through the elongate apertures 40 in the body 18.
The bracket 15 is thereby enclosed by the cheeks 28 of the horizontal limb 20 of the body 18, while the bar 65 is enclosed by the portions of the arms 30 of the vertical limb 22 which face the panel 10.
