Description

SPECIFICATION Sliding door member with adjustable roller carriers This invention relates to a sliding door member, particularly, but not exclusively, for shower or bath partitions, having a peripheral frame formed by frame members and corner connections, a filling panel or a sheet secu red to the frame, and carriers which are provided with rollers and which are secured to the peripheral frame.
A sliding door member of this kind is known (German Gebrauchsmuster No. 7803061) wherein the upper corner connectors have a horizontal, upwardly and outwardly open insertion groove for a roller carrier which is provided at the lower end with a beaded edge through which extends a through passage for a fixing screw. The beaded edge engages behind the upper edges of the opening of the insertion groove of the corner connector so that there is no possibility of vertical adjustment of the roller carrier with respect to the corner connector after assembly of the sliding door member.
The invention provides a sliding door member of the above-indicated kind, which, after assembly, allows the rollers to be aligned with respect to the stationary roller guide track.
According to the present invention there is provided a sliding door member having a peripheral frame formed by frame members and corner connectors, a filling panel or a sheet secured to the frame, and carriers which are provided with rollers and which are secured to the peripheral frame, each carrier being provided in its lower portion with a bore for receiving a disc having an eccentric opening extending therethrough, said opening having a toothed periphery, each upper corner connector having a slot for receiving the lower end of a respective carrier, the side walls of the slot being provided with a transverse bore, and a transverse pin member with a toothed periphery extending through the transverse bore in the corner connector and through the eccentric opening in the disc.
Rotation of the transverse pin member which is positively connected to the disc and which entrains the disc provides for vertical adjustment of the carrier and the rollers rotatably mounted thereon, with respect to the sliding door member.
The disc also forms a rotary mounting for the roller carrier so that the pivotability of the roller carrier about a horizontal axis provides for adjustabilitywhich acts on the quietness and smoothness of movement of the sliding door member.
In an advantageous embodiment of the invention, the disc is firstly fixed with respect to the roller carrier. For this purpose the disc is produced from plastics material and has an outwardly extending arm which engages into an opening in the carrier.
When the disc is adjusted by means of the transverse pin member, the locking arm is first separated from the disc by being sheared off and remains in the opening in the carrier.
The locking arm which is connected to the disc forms an aid to assembly insofar as the opening in the carrier which receives the locking arm ensures proper alignment of the opening through the eccentric disc with the transverse bore in the corner connector, through which the transverse pin member is passed.
In an embodiment of the sliding door member, at least two pairs of rollers are mounted rotatably on each carrier, the rollers being disposed in their vertical projection between the ends of the vertical frame members.
Providing each carrier with two or more pairs of rollers provides for a good transmission of force as between the sliding door member and the stationary guide track. The plurality of pairs of rollers also provides smoothness and quietness of movement.
The pairs of rollers are arranged in such a way that they are disposed within the vertical projection between the ends of the vertical frame members.
The ends of the vertical frame members can thus be used as abutment surfaces for limit positions in respect of the sliding door member.
Some embodiments of the invention will now be described, by way of examples, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 shows two embodiments of the upper part of a sliding door member, that shown on the left-hand part is a sliding door member wherein the carrier is provided with a pair of rollers, while that shown on the right-hand side of Figure 1 shows a sliding door member with a T-shaped roller carrier.
Figure 2 shows a perspective view of a top corner connector of the sliding door member, Figure 3 shows a perspective view of a roller carrier with associated eccentric disc, and Figure 4 shows the lower end of the roller carrier with an- eccentric disc fitted therein.
As shown in Figure 1 the sliding door member 1has a peripheral frame which includes vertical frame members 2 and 3, an upper horizontal frame member 4 and corner connectors 5 and 6 by way of which the upper horizontal frame member 4 is connected to the vertical frame members 2 and 3. Corner connectors and a lower horizontal frame member are also provided at the bottom of the door (not shown). The top corner connectors 5 and 6 each have a slot 7 for receiving the lower end of a respective roller carrier 8 or 9 which is provided with a bore 10 for receiving a disc 11. In the embodiments illustrated the disc 11 has a T-shaped locking projection 12 which, when the disc 11 is fitted into the bore 10, is engaged in a correspondingly shaped opening 13 provided in the carrier 8 or 9 respectively. This arrangement fixes the position of the disc 11 with respect to the carrier 8,9.
The disc 11 is provided with an eccentric opening 14 extending therethrough, which opening 14 is toothed on its periphery. A correspondingly toothed portion 15 is provided on a transverse pin member 16 which, after the lower end of the carrier 8;9 has been fitted into the slot 7, is inserted through a transverse bore 17 in the corner connector 8,9 and extends through the opening 14 in the disc 11 and has detent projections 18 provided on resilient tongue portions 19, said projections 18 engaging behind the outer edge of the transverse bore 17, on the side remote from the side from which the transverse pin member 16 is inserted. The transverse pin member 16 is provided with a head 20 which has a transverse slot 21 for engagement by an operating tool. The try have rse bore 17 may also have teeth on its periphery so that the disc 11 is fixed in position after adjustment.
The carrier 8 is provided with a pair ofrollers 22 whilst the carrier 9 has an upper horizontal limb portion 23 arranged asymmetrically with respect to the vertical fixing limb portions and has two pairs of rollers 22. The pairs of rollers 22 run on a guide track 24 which can be in the form of an extruded light-metal or alloy member.
Instead of the roller carrier illustrated in Figure 1, the sliding door member may also be provided with roller carriers which are of an angular configuration and which have a vertical fixing limb portion and a horizontal limb portion on which two or more pairs of rollers are rotatably mounted.
Figure 1 shows that the pairs of rollers 22 are disposed in their vertical projection between the ends 25 and 26 of the vertical frame members 2 and 3 of the frame. The ends 25 and 26 can thus be used as abutment surfaces for the sliding door member, in the limit positions thereof.
