EMI1.1
DISPOSITIF POUR LA PREPARATION DE BISCUITS DE CEREALES EXPANSEES ----------------------------------------------------------------
EMI1.2
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

------------------------------------------AVANTAGES DU DtSPOSITIF SELON L'INVENTION : --------------------------------------------

DEVICE FOR THE PREPARATION OF EXPANDED CEREAL BISCUITS ----------------------------------------- -----------------------
EMI1.2
It has long been known to manufacture such products using a manual press in which are two elements of a mold, one having the appearance of a poinoDt I'aut're before * allm- e ur. e matrix.
A certain quantity of cereals is introduced between the elements of the mold, after which these cereals are cooked under pressure for a few seconds, after which the pressure is released by a sudden movement of the operator's arm without the mold opening. entirely,
During this last phase of cooking, called expansion phase, a uniform food product is obtained consisting of expanded grains intimately linked to each other, and ready for cansumption.
Before 1973, various devices were tested in order to produce these products automatically, in order to reduce labor costs and obtain a uniform product.
These devices had the drawback of using a cam acting directly on the punch via an axially sliding shaft.
In order to be able to obtain a sufficient expansion speed, the lower part of this sliding shaft, and the transition on the periphery of the cam corresponding to the start of this expansion phase had to have sharp edges deteriorating very quickly, as a result of which the expansion speed became insufficient, a gradual sliding occurring along rounded flanks.
EMI1.3
On 05/09/1973, the - Beige patent No 799316 was filed concerning a device in which it was remedied to this drawback by an arrangement allowing the chain driving the cam to be partially released from its drive means during grain expansion, which allows
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
a significant expansion speed despite the use of a punch guide member cooperating with the cam of rounded shape. and a transition from the guide face of the cam corresponding to the not very pronounced expansion.
This arrangement has enabled a significant increase in the life of the working members. Nevertheless, the devices according to this patent must be constructed with materials of high resistance and with high precision to
EMI2.1
UC-. e cjüganes achieve one of, - e aecePtable life ofo o o ',: king s 115 are relatively expensive construction.
One drawback is that the cam continues to rotate during temp. baking, phase during which the mold members are almost stationary, hand subjected to a very high pressure, which produces significant and unnecessary wear of the cam and the guide member cooperating with it.
06/22/1978. Beige patent No 868361 has been filed, relating to a device for the preparation of food products based on expanded cereals, in which the movements of the mold are obtained by means of jacks, which makes it possible to prevent wear on the working members during the cooking phase of the products, and in which, to allow rapid expansion, and a sudden stop of the mold, conditions which are difficult to achieve using jacks, a stopper mayen is introduced during the cooking phase in the path of the punch or of a punch drive member so as to stop its abrupt opening movement in a precise and reliable manner.
According to a particular embodiment of the device according to this invention, the jack device acts on the mold by means of a toggle. Thus, the jack must no longer resist the increase in pressure in the mold due to the release of vapors resulting from the cooking of the products.
Compared to the cam device, this device xi cylinders is characterized by the obligation to use a servo and control device relatively
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
EMI3.1
complex. requiring many motion sensors. These devices, which are pneumatic or electronic alem & ma, resist maJ in the medium of vapors and cooking fats, and to sei used during the production of food products, not to mention the soapy water frequently used when cleaning the devices.
Practice has shown that too rapid crushing of cereal grains reduces the quality of the products obtained.
It would seem that the grains can only be completely crushed after having reached a certain temperature to allow optimal expansion. On the other hand, a too rapid closing of the mold elements leads to an inclusion of air in the cooking medium, which is harmful for the expansion.
The cam devices make it possible to impart perfect and constant progressiveness to the closing movement of the molds.
This feature is completely impractical with pneumatic cylinder devices, due to the
EMI3.2
Air compressibility and very difficult to realize hydraulically, there is a cost control system: such that it would make the profitability of the device impossible.
Another very desirable characteristic is to obtain the highest possible expansion speed.
In Beige patent 886895, a device has been described according to which jacks cooperate with crutches, one end of which rolls on a flat face. of a function equivalent to a knee switch.
According to this patent. provision is made to bring such a lever into the pressure position against a stop, after qubi the cylinder can return to its initial position during the duration of cooking. At the end of cooking, another jack unlocks the lever from its position against the stop, and the lever can return freely to its first position, without being braked in its stroke by a drive mower such as a jack, which increases the speed of expansion.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
This device is compe exe <and difficult to implement.
The Bye patent) that 904631 relates to a device similar to the device seien the patent 868361, in which the
EMI4.1
knee & re is partially free from the single drive cylinder in order to also obtain the aforementioned advantage.
This device, of an apparent mechanical simplicity is in fact very difficult to develop.
Indeed. at the end of cooking, the stem of the
EMI4.2
cylinder unblocks the enoui] the * at the mosn of a spring, e (which serves, after the unlocking, of "medium launcher", accelerating the expansion.
The force required to unlock the knee switch varies according to the pressure variations prevailing in the mold at the end of the cooking of the cereals, variations resulting from variations in the degree of humidity of the raw materials.
The rod of the hydraulic cylinder, moving relatively slowly. must also stop in a precise position, in order to act as a stop for the knee lifter. But at the moment when the toggle is "launched" by the spring, and reaches a very important speed, and this at a random moment because of the variations of the moment of the
EMI4.3
- ------ release, this cylinder rod is always in relatively slow motion, the speed of this movement can also vary with changes in the viscosity of the oil according to variations in ambient temperature.
It is therefore very difficult to adjust this apparatus, and even more difficult to obtain constant results.
In addition. the significant shock produced during the expansion is reflected in the cylinder, and the incompressibility of the oil produces bursts of tubes, fittings, and damage to the control valves.
The difficulty in adjusting the expansion cycle also leads to the need to use sophisticated and therefore expensive control devices.

cooked and expanded cereal base. in particular the Belgian patents 893770 and 902360.
------------------------------------------ ADVANTAGES OF THE DEVICE ACCORDING TO THE INVENTION: --------------------------------------------
It is a fully mechanical device with the following adventures:
EMI5.2
Compared to the old cam devices, the use of which is now abandoned, the originality of the design allows the same high pressure to be obtained, while very considerably reducing the mechanical stresses.
Compared to these old cam devices, the expansion is carried out in an absolutely precise and reliable manner, this independently of the pressure prevailing in the mold <and likely to vary according to the quality of the cereals used.
Compared to these old cam devices, motor energy consumption is greatly reduced.
Compared to cylinder devices, the device according to the invention may not make use of pneumatic, hydraulic and electronic elements liable to be damaged by the effects of the environment in which this device
EMI5.3
may have to work.
Compared to these cylinder devices, the start of the compression of the products can be of absolutely constant and reliable progressiveness, which makes it possible to optimize the quality.
Compared to these; actuator devices, the device according to the invention does not require the use of uncompressed pneumatic or hydraulic medium external to the device, nor the necessary pipes and infrastructure.
The device according to the invention may not produce exhaust of compressed air containing in suspension of

By ra. pport au 'devices with hydraulic cylinders <the device according to the invention may not involve the risk of an oil leak under high pressure likely to contaminate the products.
EMI6.2
Compared to hydraulic jack devices, the device according to the invention allows a significant reduction in mast times by the positive action dss square. s, possibly used, completely eliminating the operating uncertainties of the cylinders, caused by variations in the viscosity of the hydraulic oil according to the ambient temperature, or by the compressibility of fair causing a random accuracy of the translation speed of the pneumatic cylinders .
compared to cam devices, the device according to the invention also allows an abduction of idle times, because it may not make use of a follower roller of the cam of rounded shape during the expansion phase, and that the absence of a need to adjust the acceleration of the cama during expansion and of uncertainty as to the duration of the expansion makes it possible to significantly reduce the time delay when the mold is opened, and before the beginning of the movement of the device for ejecting cooked products and introducing cereals, and thereby reducing the length of the cycle.
Another important advantage of the device according to the invention is the fact that it is possible to construct this device in such a way that the motor member, which is advantageously a standard geared group, is not stressed in the direction of its drive by the shock resulting from the end of the expansion, which allows the choice of a very low-power motor, and guarantees a long life.
