Abstract

Measured quantities of cereal mixt. are dispensed by a sliding gate plate from a hopper onto the top of a vertically oscillating ram piston which then carries the portion upwards into a mould cavity in which it is cooked, the pressure of the ram being maintained constant during the cooking period by the constant radius section of the cam beneath on which a roller follower at the base of the ram shaft rides. At the end of that constant radius section is a steeply defined depression which allows a rapid kick downwards of the ram so allowing a rapid expansion or puffing of the prod. This is aided by the way in which the cam shaft is driven, allowing a corresp. forced acceleration kick on the shaft by the downward pressure of the ram shaft follower on the cam profile. A sliding plate ejector strikes the prod. from the head of the ram into an ejection chute when the cam profile following the above depression allows the ram to be lowered into a discharge and reloading posn. opposite the two sliding plates.
