Abstract
708,625. Moulding dough &c. SOERENSEN, C. HILDEBRANDT-: Sept. 22, 1950 [Sept. 24, 1949; March 10, 1950], No. 23269/50. Class 87 (2) A moulded article, e.g. a dough piece, is loosened and ejected from a mould cavity by air compressed by a plunger associated with the mould. In one form of apparatus, dough in a hopper 20, Fig. 1, is forced into mould cavities 5 between rotating discs 1, 2 by a roller 21. Superfluous dough is removed by a scraper 22. Each cavity 5 has an air space 6, Fig. 3, containing a piston 7 which is normally forced outwardly by a spring 13 to form the base of the mould cavity. A stop ring 14 on the piston rod 8 holds the piston in this position. As the discs 1, 2 rotate, a cam 16 raises the piston and air passes into the space 6 through a duct 18. When the cam allows the spring to return the piston to its normal position, the piston acts on the air in the space 6 to compress it and expel the moulded article. In a modification, Fig. 4, the mould cavity 5 is connected to the air space 6 by slits 23 which are too narrow to allow the passage of dough therethrough. The duct 18 may have a valve to allow air to enter the space 6 at the correct time, in which case it may be arranged in the piston or anywhere in the space 6. In another form of apparatus, Fig. 5, material is filled into a space 34 and compressed against a plunger 7 by a member 32 which is raised by applying pressure to a plate 38. After moulding, the mould assembly is rotated manually about a shaft 26, and a guide' path 50 raises the plunger 7 against a spring 42. The spindle 46 of a valve 45 is prevented from rising with the plunger 7 by a plate 53, so that air passes through ducts 56, 18 to the space 6, Fig. 6, formed by the raising of the plunger 7. On further rotation of the mould assembly, the valve spindle 46 comes off the plate 53 and it rises under the action of a spring 55 to close the valve. The path 50 then releases the plunger 7 which is moved downwardly by the spring 42 to compress the air in the space 6 and eject the article. The mould may be automatically held in its position above the moulding table. The apparatus may be provided with several moulds. The mould cavities may be formed in a removable part of the mould as shown in Fig. 4.
