Abstract

855,983. Injection-moulding machines. FOSTER, YATES & THOM Ltd., and INTERNATIONAL VULCANIZING CORPORATION. Sept. 24, 1959 [Oct. 9, 1958], No. 32303/58. Class 87(2). Pressure responsive means is located in a mould cavity at or near the region of the cavity which is the last to be filled during an injection moulding operation ; means also being provided controlled by said pressure responsive means and including a time delay device for interrupting the injection process after an internal following the operation of the pressure responsive means. Plastic material is injected through orifice 4 in mould 1, 2 comprising a last 5 and plate 3, to form a sandal &c, having a sole 6 and a strap 7. A steel pin 12 having a head 13 is slidably located in a bore 10 in the base of a recess 8 in mould part 1, said bore being remote from the orifice 4 and leading into the strap cavity, and the head 13 engages the operative member 15 of a micro-switch 14. Mould 1, 2 on table 16 is moved towards injection nozzle 18 of cylinder 17, contacts 19, 20 close, and put switch 14 in a circuit having relay gear 23, controlling the drive 24, and an adjustable time delay device 22, so that when the pin 12 is pushed out by the pressure of material, the time taken to stop drive 24 may be varied to allow for shrinkage of moulding material. Several pressure responsive devices may be used and the pin 12 may be spring loaded.
