Abstract

795,668. Brick-moulding machines. NUNEATON ENGINEERING CO., Ltd. Jan. 16. 1956 [Jan. 22, 1955], No. 1991/55. Class 87(2). [Also in Group XXXV] In a press of the kind in which material fed by an oscillating, cam-operated feed shoe 21 is pressed in a mould cavity 24 by a cam-operated plunger 33 and the moulded brick is ejected by a plunger 25 the position of which may be adjusted by a screw 32 to vary the amount of material to be moulded, a device is provided either to indicate a variation in moulding pressure to allow the position of the plunger 25 to be adjusted to compensate for such a variation or to operate a motor 54 to adjust the screw 32 automatically on such a variation. As shown, a lever 44 pivotally mounted on the frame at 45 is moved during pressing because of the stressing of the frame. If the moulding pressure is too high, a finger 48 operates a micro-switch 50 which causes the motor 54 to raise the plunger 25. Whereas if the pressure is too low, a finger 49 operates a switch 51 to lower the plunger. To prevent the switch 51 from operating when the machine is at rest, a switch 56 is provided in the circuit which is closed by a cam 60 only as the maximum pressure is applied. A further switch 61 is provided to prevent the plunger 25 from being lowered if the supply of material is stopped.
