Abstract
738,437. Moulding rubber soles on to footwear. FABRICA ARGENTINA DE ALPARGATAS SOC. ANON INDUSTRIAL Y COMMERCIAL. July 1, 1953, No. 18255/53. Class 87 (2). An apparatus for vulcanizing rubber soles comprises a heated mould 2 over which an arm 33 turning about an axis 32 carries a last 46 which is moved so as to enter the mould 2 by a press 31 comprising a screw 42 turning in a thread in arm 33. The'rubber is prevented from rising too far up the footwear by laterally movable elements 5. In operation, the sheets 5, 6 are initially separated to a limit fixed by abutment of attached elements 19 against screws 21 in elements 20 fixed to base 1. The sole 4 to be vulcanized is placed in mould 2 and actuation of rods 27 moves sheets 5, 6 towards each other. A spring attached to stop 18 fixed on shaft 16 and to element 19 causes the lower faces of the sheets to bear against the 'mould edge. With the arm 33 in the position shown in Fig. 2, footwear is placed on the last and is then rotated by handle 48 to bear against the inclined part 39 of the clasp 37 until a narrow section 38 engages a slot 35 and is held there by spring 40. The handle 43 may now be turned to bring the last into contact with the sheets. On reverse action of levers 27 the sheets are returned to the position shown in Fig. 1 by means of spring 49. Arm 33 is then freed by downward pressure on rod 52, when it is rotated by the action of counterweight 34 about pivot 32 to the position shown in Fig. 2 to free the last.
