Abstract
838,347. Moulding footwear. JEZEQUEL, M. F. J. May 7, 1956 [May 7, 1955], No. 14171 /56. Class 87(2). Soles are vulcanized to footwear by placing the upper on a last 28, which is rotatable about a shaft 31 mounted at its ends in blocks 32 which are vertically adjustable by means of nuts 35. The rods 33 supporting the blocks may also be raised vertically by a manually operated cam, see Fig. 1 (not shown). Side moulds 12, having heating blocks, are moved together by pins 25, when a member 3 carrying the mould bottom 7, and having slots 26 which receive the pins, is moved upwardly by a screw-threaded shaft 11. Springs 4 are provided between the mould bottom 7 and the member 3. In a modification, Figs. 6 to 10 (not shown), a linkage causes the last to be lowered, when the mould bottom is raised, and there is a delay before the side moulds are closed. When the side moulds are finally closed, the mould bottom is moved upwardly to exert the moulding pressure. A locking member is also provided to prevent the last from rising, during moulding. The last is adjustably supported to allow it to be centered in the mould. The sole may be made of sponge rubber.
