Abstract

1292516 Boots &c A NOVA O NOVA and R NOVA [trading as OFFICINE MECCANICHE ANTONIO NOVA] 1 April 1970 [11 April 1969] 15499/70 Heading A3B [Also in Division B5] A method of manufacturing a shoe having a sole with a projecting edge, comprises forming an upper 19 and insole 20, the edge portion of which forms at least a part of the projecting edge, securing these members to a last 18 by hooked pins 21, positioning the last over a moulding chamber 3 such that the edge portion rests on a ledge 16 formed on a lip projecting. from the side wall of the moulding chamber, clamping the edge portion between the ledge and clamping members 8, 9 and moulding the sole to the upper and insole on the last. In the apparatus described, the last has adjustable columns 26, to contact the hinged clamping members 8, 9 as the last is lowered, and move them against adjustable springs 10 to the clamping position. The mould is formed by base parts 1 and 2, which can be moved apart laterally, and a base member 30, which can be adjusted vertically to vary the pressure on the material being moulded, e.g. rubber which can be subsequently vulcanised, spongy rubber, or injected synthetic resin, or to vary the thickness of the sole. The mould can have heating or cooling means.
