A machine for moulding e.g. lipstick cases comprises two mould parts between which is a mould cavity, and a core pin mounted so that it projects into the mould cavity when the mould is closed and is retracted when the mould is opened to strip the finished article from the core pin. Cavities 14, 15 in the fixed mould part 10 co-operate with cavities 18, 19 in the movable mould part 11 to form the mould cavity into which projects the core pin 20. The core pin 20 is mounted on a carrier 22 through the bore 26 of which passes an inclined cam rod 25 so that as the mould is opened the carrier 22 follows the rod 25 and retracts the core pin 20 from the mould cavity. On initial opening of the mould the core pin and carrier are kept in contact with the mould part 10 by means of springs 48 and the moulded article is thus removed from the cavities 18, 19. On further opening of the mould the moulded article is removed from cavities 14, 15, and thereafter the core pin is withdrawn and the finished article is stripped from the core pin. After initial opening of the mould the spruce will remain in cavity 31, from which it may be removed by a knock-out pin 50, the head 51 of which engages fixed pins 52, 53 as the mould continues opening. In a modification (not shown) the core pin and carrier can be reciprocated by fluid pressure or electrical means.
