Abstract
909,555. Moulds for injection moulding. ROSEDALE ASSOCIATED MANUFACTURERS Ltd. March 21, 1961 [Aug. 8, 1960], No. 10297/61. Class 87(2). In a method of manufacturing tubes of synthetic plastic material having a closed end, the material is injected through openings 4, 5, Fig. 1, at one end of a mould 1 containing a core 3 supported at the other end by a movable core supporting member 9, the member 9 being moved by fluid pressure when the mould is partially filled to provide a gap between the core 3 and the member 9 to receive material forming the closed end of the tube. A projection 10 on the member 9 engages with a recess 8 in the core 3. As material is forced into the mould the pressure therein builds up and forces the member 9, against the action of a spring 11, away from the core 3. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 3, a core supporting member 22 is moved in timed sequence by an air cylinder 27 which actuates a slidable cam member 26 and a cam 24 fixed to the supporting member 22. Air trapped in the mould escapes through a central bore 31 in the core and the finished tube is ejected by air under pressure supplied between the supporting member 22 and the bore in which it moves. Several moulds and cores may be provided in one mould body 13 for simultaneous operation.
