Abstract

Maíz transgénico con un fenotipo mejorado debido a la inserción de ADN heterólogo cuya transcripción no da como resultado un fenotipo conocido en maíz. Los fenotipos mejorados incluyen el redimiento, tal como el rendimiento bajo condicones de estrés, y contenido de los componentes de las semillas, vigor y tolerancia al estrés, tal como resistencia a sequía, resistencia a hongos, capacidad para mejorar la germinación y el crecimiento con temperaturas bajas, resistencia al estrés osmótico, resistencia a insectos, resistencia a virus; tolerancia a la sombra, tolerancia al calor, tolerancia reducida al nitrógeno y tolerancia reducida a fosfatos;la función metabólica, tal como el transporte de aminoácidos, la producción de proteínas, la actividad enzimática, crecimiento, regulación y senescencia de las células, mayor capacidad para producir mazorcas bajo condiciones de gran densidad de plantas; y la fisiología, tal como esterilidad y el momento de germinación, floración y senescencia. Dicho maíz transgénico se obtiene por generación de una pluralidad de eventos transgénicos para una pluralidad de construcciones únicas de ADN transgénico, donde cada uno de los eventos transgénicos comprende la introducción en el genoma de una línea de maíz progenitora de una sola construcción de ADN transgénico que comprende un promotor ligado operativamente una cantidad suficiente de un ADN heterólogo como para producir células transgénicas que se puedan cultivar hasta obtener las plantas de maíz transgénico con el fenotipo mejorado. Reivindicación 1: Semillas de maíz transgénico, caracterizado porque presentan un mayor rendimiento (medido en peso de cultivo por área) en comparación con el rendimiento correspondiente de la línea de maíz progenitora, obtenidas por introducción en el genoma de dicha línea progenitora de una conmstrucción de ADN transgénico que comprende un promotor ligado operativamente a un ADN heterólogo, donde dicho ADN heterólogo codifica una proteína cuya secuencia de aminoácidos es al menos un 60% idéntica a una secuencia seleccionada del grupo formado por las SEQ ID N°: 368 a SEQ ID N°: 736.
