Derivados del ácido naftilsulfonico que comprenden compuestos de la formula (1) donde: R1 y R2 son, independientemente, hidrogeno, alquilo, alquilo sustituido, arilo, arilo sustituido, -C(O)R4, -C(O)OR4, -C(O)NR4R5, -S(O)2R4, -S(O)2OR4, heteroarilo, heteroarilo sustituido, heterociclilo, heterociclilo sustituido, aril alquilo (inferior), aril alquilo (inferior) sustituido, heteroaril alquilo (inferior), heteroaril alquilo (inferior) sustituido, o alquenilo inferior o R1 y R2 junto con el nitrogeno adjunto son heteroarilo C3-9, heterocíclico C3-5, o ambos R1 y R2 son oxígeno y junto con el nitrogeno adjunto forman ûNO2, R3 es un sustituyente en el anillo B y es ûSO2OR6, -C(O)OR6, -SO2NR62, -C(O)NR62 o tetrazolilo; el conector ûWY- entre el naftilo y el fenilo intercepta al anillo A en el naftilo, y es independientemente, -C(O)NR7-, -NR7C(O)-, -C(O)O-, -OC(O)-, -CH=CH-, -NR7CH2-, -CH2NR7, -NR7C(O)NR7, -NR7C(O)O- OC(O)NR7-, -NR7SO2O-, -OSO2NR7-, -OC(O)O-, -SO2NR7-, -NR7SO2-, -OSO2-, o ûSO2O-, cada uno de R4 y R5 es, independientemente, hidrogeno, alquilo, alquilo sustituido, arilo, arilo sustituido, arilalquilo(inferior) arilalquilo (inferior) sustituido, alquilo (inferior) sustituido, heterocíclilo, heterocíclilo sustituido, o alquenilo inferior, cada uno de R6 y R7 es, independientemente hidrogeno o alquilo inferior; cada Z es un sustituyente no interferente; cada x y v es, independientemente, 0, 1, 2 o 3 ; cada R8 es, independientemente, hidrogeno, alquilo inferior, alquilo inferior sustituido, aril alquilo (inferior), aril alquilo (inferior) sustituido, heteroarilo sustituido, heteroarilo, heteroaril alquilo (inferior), heteroaril alquilo (inferior) sustituido, heterocíclilo, heterocíclilo sustituido, alquenilo inferior, nitro, halo, ciano, -OR9, -SR9, -C(O)R9, -OC(O)R9, -C(O)OR9,-NR92, -C(O)NR92, -NR9C(O)R9, -OSO2R9, -SO2OR9, -SO2NR92, o ûNR9SO2R9, cada R9 es, independientemente, hidrogeno, alquilo inferior, alquilo inferior sustituido, arilo, arilo sustituido, heteroarilo, heteroarilo sustituido, heteroaril alquilo (inferior), heteroaril alquilo (inferior) sustituido, heterocíclilo, heterocíclilo sustituido, aril alquilo (inferior) o aril alquilo (inferior) sustituido; y R10 es arilo, arilo sustituido, heteroarilo, o heteroarilo sustituido; opcionalmente en forma de estereoisomeros simples o mezclas de estereoisomeros, o las sales farmacéuticamente aceptables de los mismos, un proceso para su preparacion, son utiles en métodos de estimulacion de la actividad de quinasa del receptor de insulina, perfeccionamiento de la activacion del receptor de insulina por insulina, y estimulacion de la absorcion de glucosa en células. Además se describe una variedad de compuestos antidiabéticos y composiciones farmacéuticas que comprenden los compuestos antidiabéticos; el uso de dichos derivados naftalenos para preparar un medicamento para el tratamiento de condiciones asociadas con hiperglucemia, especialmente diabetes tipo 2. Dichos derivados son utiles también para validar, optimizar y estandarizar bioensayos.
