Abstract

La presente se refiere a un proceso para recubrir una superficie de material, el cual comprende los pasos de (a) enlazar covalentemente un compuesto quecomprende un doble enlace etilénicamente insaturado con la superficie del material; (b) polimeriza r un monomero que comprende un grupo reactivo o reticulablesobre la superficie, y proporcionar de esta manera un recubrimiento polimérico primario que comprende grupos reactivos o reticulables; (c) en el caso de unmonomero que comprenda un grupo reac tivo en el paso (b) hace reaccionar los grupos reactivos del recubrimiento primario con un compuesto adicional quecomprende un doble enlace etilénicamente insaturado, y polimerizar por injerto un monomero hidrofílico, y opcionalmente un comonomero qu e tenga un gruporeticulable sobre el recubrimiento primario obtenido de acuerdo con el paso (b), y (d) en el caso en que estén presentes grupos reticulables en los pasos (b) o(c), iniciar la reticulacion de estos grupos. Los artículos recubiertos que se pueden obtener mediante el proceso de la invencion, tienen característicasdeseables con respecto a adherencia al sustrato, durabilidad, hidrofilicidad, humectabilidad, biocompatibilidad, y permeabilidad, y por lo tanto, son utilespara la fabricac ion de artículos biomédicos, tales como dispositivos oftálmicos.
