Abstract

Materiales compuestos que comprenden: (a) un material de volumen inorgánico u orgánico que tiene unido a su superficie cuando menos un material poli-ionico que comprende fracciones iniciadoras covalentemente enlazadas para la polimerizacion de radicales; y (b) un recubrimiento superficial hidrofílico que se puede obtener mediante la aplicacion de uno o más monomeros o macromonomeros hidrofílicos etilénicamente insaturados diferentes a la superficie del material de volumen provista con los radicales iniciadores, y polimerizar estos monomeros o macromonomeros. Estos materiales compuestos tienen características deseables con respecto a adherencia al sustrato, durabilidad, hidrofilicidad, humectabilidad, biocompatibilidad, y permeabilidad, y por consiguiente, son utiles para la fabricacion de artículos biomédicos, tales como dispositivos oftálmicos; proceso para su fabricacion, dispositivo biomédico, y uso del material compuesto para la fabricacion de un dispositivo oftálmico.
