Postupak za dobivanje hidroksialkil-1-nitro-5 im-idazola opšte formule (I) dejstvom alkilen oksida na kompleks sumpornog anhidrida sa derivatom imidazola opšte formule (II), što je dalje praćeno kiselom hidrolizom ili alkoholizom dobivenog proizvoda. U opštim formulama (I) i (II), R predstavlja vodonik, alkil, fenilalkil ili fenil ventualno supstituisan. U opštoj formuli (I), ne je 2 ili 3 i jedan ili više atoma ugljenika alkilenskog lanca može biti supstituisano sa jednim ili više metil radikala U opštoj formuli (II), X predstavlja grupu eliminisivu kiselom hidrolizom ili alkoholizom.
