- a cylindrical non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery having a battery case with an outer diameter R of 3.0 mm or more and 6.5 mm or less, internal short circuits can be reduced.
- FIG. 1 is a schematic longitudinal sectional view of a cylindrical non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery (pin-shaped cylindrical non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery) according to an embodiment of the present disclosure.
- non-aqueous electrolyte secondary batteries such as lithium-ion secondary batteries
- various attempts have been made to devise the configuration of electrodes and electrode groups, the components of non-aqueous electrolytes, etc., with the aim of improving performance.
- it is advantageous to have a large battery size and conventionally, lithium ion secondary batteries with a battery diameter of about 14 mm to 18 mm and a height of about 40 mm to 65 mm and having high capacity have been widely used. ing.
- the electrode area since the electrode area is large, in addition to being easily contaminated with foreign matter, the surface pressure of the entire electrode group increases as the number of turns increases. Therefore, most internal short circuits in the early stages are caused by them.
- the pin-shaped cylindrical non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery is likely to have an internal short circuit in the initial stage.
- a pin-type cylindrical non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery even if the ratio of the inner diameter r of the hollow part of the electrode group to the outer diameter R of the battery case: r / R is the same when compared with a large size battery , and the inner diameter r is small, it is considered that an internal short circuit is likely to occur due to falling off of the electrode material.
- the distance between the positive electrode and the negative electrode becomes smaller at or near the innermost circumference due to the stress caused by expansion and contraction.
- the reaction tends to be non-uniform between the inner circumference side and the outer circumference side. Therefore, as the charge-discharge cycle progresses, "liquid depletion", in which the amount of the non-aqueous electrolyte in the innermost peripheral portion of the electrode group becomes insufficient, tends to occur. In particular, when charging and discharging are repeated at a high rate, the liquid dryness becomes remarkable. Due to the drying up of the liquid, lithium metal is deposited on the negative electrode to further increase the stress, and the falling off of the electrode material of the negative electrode becomes even more pronounced.
- the problem associated with the internal short circuit caused by the shedding of the electrode material as described above is a problem specific to the pin-shaped cylindrical non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery, which is hardly a problem in large-sized batteries.
- the state of the electrodes and the movement of the nonaqueous electrolyte during charging and discharging are completely different between a pin-shaped cylindrical nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery and a large battery. For this reason, it is difficult to obtain the same effect by directly applying the means for improving a large-sized battery to a pin-shaped cylindrical non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery.
- a cylindrical non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery of the present disclosure includes a cylindrical battery case, and a wound electrode group and a non-aqueous electrolyte housed in the battery case.
- the outer diameter R of the battery case is 3.0 mm or more and 6.5 mm or less.
- the ratio of the inner diameter r of the hollow portion of the electrode group to the outer diameter R: r/R is 0.1 or more and 0.3 or less.
- the non-aqueous electrolyte contains at least one selected from the group consisting of LiSO 3 F and LiFSI.
- LiSO 3 F is lithium fluorosulfonate.
- LiFSI is lithium bis(fluorosulfonyl)imide.
- the concentration of LiSO 3 F in the non-aqueous electrolyte is 1.5% by mass or less when the outer diameter R is 3.0 mm or more and 5 mm or less. When it exceeds 5 mm and is 6.5 mm or less, it is 1.2% by mass or less.
- the nonaqueous electrolyte contains LiFSI
- the concentration of LiFSI in the nonaqueous electrolyte is 1.1 mol/L or less when the outer diameter R is 3.0 mm or more and 3.5 mm or less, and the outer diameter R is 3.5 mm or less. When it exceeds 5 mm and is 6.5 mm or less, it is 1.0 mol/L or less.
- the concentration of LiSO 3 F in the non-aqueous electrolyte is 1.2% by mass or less. good.
- the concentration of LiFSI may be 1.0 mol/L or less.
- the outer diameter R of the battery case is 3.0 mm or more and 6.5 mm or less, and the ratio r/R is 0.1 or more and 0.3 or less. and the non-aqueous electrolyte contains at least one of LiSO 3 F and LiFSI in concentrations as described above.
- additives used in non-aqueous electrolytes in large-sized non-aqueous electrolyte secondary batteries include fluoroethylene carbonate (FEC), propane sultone (PS), and vinylene carbonate (VC). These additives are said to form an SEI (Solid Electrolyte Interface) film on the surface of the negative electrode of the non-aqueous electrolyte.
- FEC fluoroethylene carbonate
- PS propane sultone
- VC vinylene carbonate
- SEI Solid Electrolyte Interface
- the pin-shaped cylindrical non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery has almost no effect of suppressing the occurrence of an internal short circuit.
- the reason why the occurrence of internal short circuits caused by falling off of the electrode material is reduced is considered as follows.
- the non-aqueous electrolyte contains LiSO 3 F
- an SEI film derived from LiSO 3 F is formed on the surface of the negative electrode from the initial stage.
- the non-aqueous electrolyte contains LiFSI
- the resistance of the non-aqueous electrolyte can be reduced, the reaction proceeds more uniformly, and the SEI film derived from LiFSI is considered to be formed on the surface of the negative electrode from the initial stage.
- the film quality of the SEI coating derived from LiSO 3 F formed on the surface of the negative electrode is good, relatively uniform and strong, and the film quality is relatively low. resistance.
- the SEI film derived from LiFSI formed on the surface of the negative electrode is excellent in film quality, relatively low in resistance, and the reaction is considered to be more uniform. .
- Such an SEI coating suppresses the rapid progress of the charge-discharge reaction on the inner peripheral side of the electrode group during the break-in charge/discharge and the initial charge, and allows the charge-discharge reaction to be performed more uniformly in the entire electrode group. is considered possible. This is thought to reduce the shedding of the electrode material at the innermost peripheral portion of the negative electrode in the initial stage. Therefore, even though the outer diameter of the battery case and the r/R ratio are relatively small as described above, it is possible to reduce internal short-circuiting caused by detachment of the electrode material in the initial stage.
- the SEI coating allows the charge-discharge reaction to occur more uniformly in the entire electrode group, even when charge-discharge is repeated at a high rate, it is possible to reduce the shedding of the electrode material in the innermost peripheral portion of the negative electrode. can. Therefore, by suppressing the occurrence of an internal short circuit due to falling off of the electrode material, high-rate charging and discharging was repeated despite the relatively small outer diameter of the battery case and the r/R ratio as described above. It is possible to reduce the decrease in the capacity at that time. As a result, a high capacity retention rate can be secured in high-rate charge/discharge cycles. In the case of LiFSI, it is considered that a high capacity retention rate is ensured also by keeping the resistance of the non-aqueous electrolyte low.
- the electrode group is formed by winding a positive electrode and a negative electrode with a separator interposed therebetween and extracting the winding core. By removing the winding core, a space is formed in the central portion of the electrode group. This space is called a hollow portion. That is, the electrode group has one or more electrodes (positive electrode, negative electrode) wound around the hollow portion. A separator or an electrode (negative electrode, etc.) sandwiched between the winding cores during winding may remain in the central portion of the hollow portion. In the present embodiment, the hollow portion is considered by ignoring part of the separator and the electrode remaining in the central portion with a gap on the outer peripheral side.
- the hollow part can be determined from a cross section when cut in a direction perpendicular to the winding axis of the electrode group, or an end face when viewed from a direction perpendicular to the winding axis of the electrode group.
- the diameter of the hollow portion at such a cross section or end face is the inner diameter r of the hollow portion. It is conceivable that the shape of the hollow portion in the above cross section or end face may not be a strict circle. In this case, the inner diameter r of the hollow portion means the diameter of the equivalent circle (circle having the same area as the hollow portion in the cross section or end surface) of the innermost circumferential surface of the electrode group in the above cross section or end surface.
- the battery case is generally cylindrical with a bottom.
- the outer diameter R of the battery case is the maximum outer diameter of the cylindrical non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery when viewed from the bottom of the battery case (however, excluding the outer film and excluding the sealing portion) outside diameter).
- cylindrical non-aqueous electrolyte secondary batteries having a battery case with an outer diameter R of 3.0 mm or more and 6.5 mm or less, including the cylindrical non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery of the present disclosure are referred to as pin-type secondary batteries.
- LiSO 3 F and LiFSI are decomposed and consumed for SEI film formation.
- concentrations of LiSO 3 F and LiFSI in the non-aqueous electrolyte change during storage or use of the battery. Therefore, when analyzing each concentration of the non-aqueous electrolyte sampled from the pin-type secondary battery, LiSO 3 F or LiFSI should remain in the non-aqueous electrolyte at a concentration equal to or higher than the detection limit.
- the pin-shaped secondary battery of the present disclosure will be described more specifically below.
- the wound electrode group includes a positive electrode, a negative electrode, and a separator interposed therebetween.
- the winding core used for winding has a cylindrical shape, and a cylindrical electrode group is obtained by winding the positive electrode and the negative electrode around such a winding core with a separator interposed therebetween. be done.
- the cylindrical electrode group includes a shape similar to a cylinder, such as a shape in which a cylinder is partially bent, a shape that is slightly crushed in the diameter direction of a cylinder, and the like.
- the ratio r/R of the inner diameter r of the hollow portion to the outer diameter R of the battery case is 0.1 or more and 0.3 or less, and may be 0.1 or more and 0.2 or less.
- the non-aqueous electrolyte contains at least one of LiSO 3 F and LiFSI at a specific concentration, so that the electrode material falls off. Therefore, it is possible to suppress the internal short-circuit caused by the high-rate charging and discharging, and to reduce the decrease in the capacity when charging and discharging are performed at a high rate.
- the inner diameter r of the hollow portion may be selected from the range of 0.3 mm or more and 1.95 mm or less so that the ratio r/R is within the above range.
- the inner diameter r may be 0.4 mm or more and 1.95 mm or less, or may be 0.4 mm or more and 1.3 mm or less. When it is in such a range, a higher effect of suppressing dropout of the electrode material can be obtained, and the occurrence of an internal short circuit can be further suppressed.
- the outer diameter r e of the electrode group is sized so that it can be accommodated within the battery case.
- the outer diameter r e of the electrode group is smaller than the outer diameter R of the battery case.

各電池の公称容量は、13.0mAh(R=3.0mm)、20.0mAh(R=4.0mm)、52.0mAh(R=6.5mm)、120mAh(R=9.0mm)、または450mAh(R=18mm)であった。
