Description

印刷システムおよび印刷方法
 本開示は、印刷システムおよび印刷方法に関する。
 従来、サーマルヘッドを発熱させることによりインクシートに塗布された染料を記録紙に転写させることで画像を印刷する熱転写型の印刷装置が知られている。このような印刷装置には、印刷時のサーマルヘッドの温度のばらつきによって印刷濃度にばらつきが生じる欠点がある。このような欠点に対して、例えば特許文献1には、印刷待機中または印刷開始直前においてサーマルヘッドを所定の温度まで加熱するプレヒート処理を実行することで、印刷開始時におけるサーマルヘッドの温度のばらつきを抑制し印刷濃度のばらつきを抑制する技術が開示されている。

 しかしながら、特許文献1に記載の技術では、印刷開始時におけるサーマルヘッドの温度のばらつきを抑制することはできるものの、連続印刷時の印刷実行中におけるサーマルヘッドの温度のばらつきを抑制することはできない。このため、連続印刷時においては印刷濃度にばらつきが発生するという問題があった。
 本開示は、上述した問題を解決するためになされたもので、連続印刷時における印刷濃度のばらつきを抑制することができる印刷システムおよび印刷方法を提供することを目的とする。
 本開示に係る印刷システムは、サーマルヘッドを有し前記サーマルヘッドを発熱させることによりインクシートの染料を記録紙に転写する転写部と、前記サーマルヘッドの温度の時間変化を示す予め定められたヘッド温度特性と印画を行う画像に関するデータとに応じて前記転写部を制御して前記記録紙に印画を行う印刷処理を制御する印刷制御部と、連続して前記印刷処理が行われる複数の画像に対して、前記印刷処理を行う前記複数の画像の順番である印刷順を変更しない場合と比較して、前記複数の画像の前記印刷処理における前記サーマルヘッドの温度の時間変化と前記ヘッド温度特性との差の総和が小さくなるように前記印刷順を変更する印刷順変更部と、を備える。
 また、本開示に係る印刷方法は、サーマルヘッドを有し前記サーマルヘッドを発熱させることによりインクシートの染料を記録紙に転写する転写部と、前記サーマルヘッドの温度の時間変化を示す予め定められたヘッド温度特性と印画を行う画像に関するデータとに応じて前記転写部を制御して前記記録紙に印画を行う印刷処理を制御する印刷制御部と、を備える印刷システムに用いられる印刷方法であって、連続して前記印刷処理が行われる複数の画像に対して、前記印刷処理を行う前記複数の画像の順番である印刷順を変更しない場合と比較して、前記複数の画像の前記印刷処理における前記サーマルヘッドの温度の時間変化と前記ヘッド温度特性との差の総和が小さくなるように前記印刷順を変更するステップを備える。
 本開示に係る印刷システムおよび印刷方法によれば、印刷順を変更しない場合と比較して、印刷処理におけるサーマルヘッドの温度の時間変化とヘッド温度特性との差の総和が小さくなるように印刷順が変更される。これにより、印刷時のサーマルヘッドの温度変化の仕方が、サーマルヘッドの温度補正用パラメータを作成する際の基準となるヘッド温度特性に近い形となる。したがって、印刷順を変更しない場合と比較して、サーマルヘッドの温度補正をより適切に実施することができ、連続印刷時における印刷濃度のばらつきを抑制することができる。

 以下、本開示の実施の形態に係る印刷システムおよび印刷方法について、図面に基づいて説明する。なお、以下の説明において、印画とは、記録紙に画像を形成する動作を指す。また、印刷とは、記録紙に画像を印画し、印画された記録紙を印刷装置の外部に排出する一連の動作を指す。
実施の形態1.
 図1は、実施の形態1に係る印刷システム100の構成を示すブロック図である。図1に示すように、実施の形態1の印刷システム100は、画像処理装置10および印刷装置50を備える。
 画像処理装置10は、印刷システム100の外部の記録媒体200から取得した画像に対して特定の処理を実行し、印刷用の画像データを印刷装置50に出力する。記録媒体200は、複数の画像データを記録可能な媒体である。記録媒体200は、例えば、USB(Universal Sirial Bus)メモリ、メモリーカード、デジタルカメラまたはカメラ付き携帯端末である。画像処理装置10は、例えばPC(Personal Computer)である。画像処理装置10の具体的な構成および処理内容は後述する。印刷装置50は、画像処理装置10から入力された画像データの画像を印刷する。
 なお、本実施の形態では、画像処理装置10と印刷装置50とが物理的に別体となっている場合の例を説明するが、画像処理装置10と印刷装置50とは物理的に一体となっていてもよい。すなわち、印刷装置50の内部に、画像処理装置10が設けられていてもよい。
 図2は、実施の形態1に係る印刷装置50の構成を示す図である。本実施の形態において、印刷装置50は、画像処理装置10から入力された画像データの画像を、熱転写方式により記録紙52に印画する熱転写型の印刷装置である。
 図2に示すように、印刷装置50は、筐体51、記録紙52、インクシート53、グリップローラ54、ピンチローラ55、供給側インクボビン56、巻取側インクボビン57、サーマルヘッド58、プラテンローラ59、ヘッド温度センサ60、ヒートシンク61およびカッター62を備える。
 筐体51は、上述した記録紙52からカッター62までの各部品を収納する。また、筐体51には、印画された記録紙52を排出する排紙口51aが形成されている。
 記録紙52は、長尺状の用紙である。記録紙52がロール状に巻かれることによってロール紙52aが形成されている。
 インクシート53は、長尺状のシートである。インクシート53には、少なくとも一色以上の染料が塗布されている。本実施の形態では、インクシート53には、イエロー(Y)、マゼンダ(M)、シアン(C)の各色の染料層および印画面を保護するオーバーコート(OP)層が長手方向に順に配列されている。
 グリップローラ54およびピンチローラ55は、互いに対向する位置に設置され、ロール紙52aから巻き出された記録紙52を挟持する。グリップローラ54が図示しないモータによって回転することで、記録紙52を搬送する。

 ヒートシンク61は、サーマルヘッド58に取り付けられる。ヒートシンク61は、サーマルヘッド58を冷却する冷却部の一例である。なお、冷却部として、ヒートシンク61に対して送風する冷却ファンを備えていてもよい。
 カッター62は、記録紙52を切断することによって、記録紙52の印画された部分を切り離す。カッター62は、例えば二枚の刃を有し、二枚の刃で記録紙52を挟み込むことにより記録紙52を切断する。
 図3は、実施の形態1に係る印刷装置50の機能を示すブロック図である。図3に示すように、印刷装置50は、機能として、印刷データ取得部71、記録紙搬送部72、インクシート搬送部73、転写部74、記録紙切断部75、ヘッド温度検出部76、制御部77、記憶部78およびヘッド温度特性出力部79を有する。
 印刷データ取得部71は、画像処理装置10から印刷用の画像データを取得する。印刷データ取得部71の機能は、画像処理装置10とデータを受信可能に接続されたインターフェースによって実現される。インターフェースは、例えばUSBケーブルを接続するインターフェースであってもよいし、有線または無線のネットワークインターフェースであってもよい。
 記録紙搬送部72は、記録紙52を搬送する。記録紙搬送部72の機能は、グリップローラ54およびピンチローラ55により実現される。
 インクシート搬送部73は、インクシート53を搬送する。インクシート搬送部73の機能は、供給側インクボビン56および巻取側インクボビン57により実現される。
 転写部74は、記録紙52にインクシート53の染料を転写する。転写部74の機能は、サーマルヘッド58およびプラテンローラ59により実現される。
 記録紙切断部75は、記録紙52を切断する。記録紙切断部75の機能は、カッター62により実現される。
 ヘッド温度検出部76は、サーマルヘッド58の温度を検出する。ヘッド温度検出部76の機能は、ヘッド温度センサ60により実現される。
 制御部77は、記憶部78に記憶された制御プログラムに従って各種処理を実行する。制御部77は、印画データ生成部81および印刷制御部82を有する。
 印画データ生成部81は、印刷データ取得部71により取得した画像データを用いて、印画データを生成する。印画データとは、印画を行う画像に関するデータであり、記録紙52に印画を行うために必要となるデータである。
 印刷制御部82は、記録紙52に画像を印画し印画した記録紙52を印刷装置50の外部に排出するように、記録紙搬送部72、インクシート搬送部73、転写部74および記録紙切断部75の動作を制御する。
 制御部77の機能、すなわち印画データ生成部81および印刷制御部82の機能は、例えばプロセッサがメモリに記憶された制御プログラムを実行することにより実現される。プロセッサは、例えばCPU(Central Processing Unit)である。メモリは、例えばRAM(Random Access Memory)、ROM(Read Only Memory)、フラッシュメモリ等の不揮発性または揮発性の半導体メモリである。
 記憶部78は、制御部77が実行する制御プログラムおよび制御プログラムの実行に必要なデータを記憶する。本実施の形態において、記憶部78は、ヘッド温度特性を記憶する。ヘッド温度特性とは、サーマルヘッド58の温度補正用に予め決められた印刷パターンの印刷処理を行った場合のサーマルヘッド58の温度の時間変化を示すものであり、予め定められている。記憶部78の機能は、例えばメモリにデータが記憶されることより実現される。
 ヘッド温度特性出力部79は、記憶部78に記憶されたヘッド温度特性を画像処理装置10に出力する。ヘッド温度特性出力部79の機能は、画像処理装置10とデータを送信可能に接続されたインターフェースによって実現される。インターフェースは、例えばUSBケーブルを接続するインターフェースであってもよいし、有線または無線のネットワークインターフェースであってもよい。また、ヘッド温度特性出力部79の機能を実現するインターフェースは、印刷データ取得部71の機能を実現するインターフェースと同じものであってもよいし、異なるものであってもよい。
 次に、実施の形態1の印刷装置50の動作について説明する。印刷データ取得部71が画像処理装置10から印刷用の画像データを取得すると、印画データ生成部81が印画データを生成し、印刷制御部82が印刷処理を実行する。印刷処理は、転写準備処理と、転写処理と、印刷物排出処理と、に分けられる。
 転写準備処理において、印刷制御部82は、記録紙搬送部72を制御して、記録紙52の転写開始位置がサーマルヘッド58とプラテンローラ59との間に位置するように、記録紙52を搬送する。転写開始位置は、本実施の形態において、記録紙52の印画領域のうち搬送方向と反対側の端部である。印画領域とは、記録紙52において画像を印画する領域である。
 転写処理において、印刷制御部82は、記録紙搬送部72、インクシート搬送部73および転写部74を制御して、記録紙52の印画領域に印画を行う。具体的には、印刷制御部82は、記録紙搬送部72を制御して記録紙52を搬送方向と反対方向に巻き戻しつつ、インクシート搬送部73を制御してインクシート53を搬送方向に搬送しながら、転写部74を制御してサーマルヘッド58を印画データに対応した発熱量で発熱させる。これにより、まずY層の染料が記録紙52の印画領域に転写される。なお、インクシート53の搬送方向とは、インクシート53を搬送する方向であり、インクシート53の長手方向において供給側インクボビン56から巻取側インクボビン57へ向かう方向である。印刷制御部82は、Y層の染料の転写と同様に、M層、C層の染料についても、Y層の染料を転写させた印画領域と同じ印画領域に順次転写する。これにより、記録紙52の印画領域にカラー画像が形成される。次に、印刷制御部82は、カラー画像が形成された印画領域にOP層を転写することで、印画したカラー画像を保護する。
 印刷物排出処理において、印刷制御部82は、記録紙搬送部72を制御して、記録紙52の印画領域の搬送方向における終端部を記録紙切断部75が切断を行う位置まで搬送し、記録紙切断部75を制御して記録紙52の印画領域の搬送方向における終端部を切断する。これにより、画像が形成された記録紙52が、筐体51の排紙口51aから排出される。なお、印刷制御部82は、記録紙切断部75を制御して、記録紙52の印画領域の搬送方向における終端部を切断するのではなく、記録紙52を規定のサイズ(例えば、Lサイズの場合には89mm×127mm)に切断するようにしてもよい。
 また、本実施の形態において、印刷制御部82は、印刷処理において、記憶部78に記憶されたヘッド温度特性を用いて、フィードフォワード制御によりサーマルヘッド58の温度を制御する。具体的には、印刷制御部82は、ヘッド温度特性と印画データに応じてサーマルヘッド58に印加するエネルギーを決定する。また、印刷制御部82は、印刷処理において、ヘッド温度検出部76により検出されたサーマルヘッド58の温度を用いて、フィードバック制御によりサーマルヘッド58の温度を制御する。
 図4は、実施の形態1に係る画像処理装置10の機能を示すブロック図である。図4に示すように、画像処理装置10は、機能として、画像データ取得部11、ヘッド温度特性取得部12、制御部13、記憶部14および印刷データ出力部15を有する。
 画像データ取得部11は、記録媒体200から画像データを取得する。画像データ取得部11により取得した画像データはハードディスク等の記憶装置(図示せず)に記憶される。画像データ取得部11の機能は、記録媒体200とデータを受信可能に接続されたインターフェースによって実現される。インターフェースは、例えばUSBメモリまたはメモリーカードを接続するインターフェースであってもよいし、有線または無線のネットワークインターフェースであってもよい。
 ヘッド温度特性取得部12は、印刷装置50からヘッド温度特性を取得する。ヘッド温度特性取得部12の機能は、印刷装置50とデータを受信可能に接続されたインターフェースによって実現される。インターフェースは、例えばUSBメモリまたはメモリーカードを接続するインターフェースであってもよいし、有線または無線のネットワークインターフェースであってもよい。
 制御部13は、記憶部14に記憶された制御プログラムに従って各種処理を実行する。制御部13は、ヘッド温度変化推定部21、ヘッド温度比較部22、印刷順変更部23および判定部24を有する。
 ヘッド温度変化推定部21は、画像データ取得部11により取得した連続して印刷処理が行われる複数の画像それぞれについて、印刷処理におけるサーマルヘッド58の温度の時間変化を推定する。
 ヘッド温度比較部22は、複数の画像の印刷処理を連続して行った場合の印刷処理におけるサーマルヘッド58の温度の時間変化と、ヘッド温度特性とを比較する。具体的には、ヘッド温度比較部22は、ヘッド温度変化推定部21により推定されたサーマルヘッド58の温度の時間変化を用いて、複数の画像の印刷処理を連続して行った場合の印刷処理におけるサーマルヘッド58の温度の時間変化と、ヘッド温度特性と、の差の総和を算出する。
 印刷順変更部23は、連続して印刷処理が行われる複数の画像に対して、印刷処理を行う画像の順番すなわち印刷順を変更する。
 判定部24は、画像処理装置10の制御における各種判定処理を行う。
 制御部13の機能、すなわちヘッド温度変化推定部21、ヘッド温度比較部22、印刷順変更部23および判定部24の機能は、例えばプロセッサがメモリに記憶された制御プログラムを実行することにより実現される。プロセッサは、例えばCPUである。メモリは、例えばRAM、ROM、フラッシュメモリ等の不揮発性または揮発性の半導体メモリである。
 記憶部14は、制御部13が実行する制御プログラムおよび制御プログラムの実行に必要なデータを記憶する。記憶部14の機能は、例えばメモリにデータが記憶されることより実現される。
 印刷データ出力部15は、印刷順変更部23により変更された印刷順で、印刷装置50に印刷用の画像データを出力する。印刷データ出力部15の機能は、印刷装置50とデータを送信可能に接続されたインターフェースによって実現される。インターフェースは、例えばUSBケーブルを接続するインターフェースであってもよいし、有線または無線のネットワークインターフェースであってもよい。また、印刷データ出力部15の機能を実現するインターフェースは、ヘッド温度特性取得部12の機能を実現するインターフェースと同じものであってもよいし、異なるものであってもよい。
 次に、図5を用いて、実施の形態1の画像処理装置10の動作について説明する。図5は、実施の形態1に係る画像処理装置10の動作を示すフローチャートである。図5に示す制御は、例えば、印刷処理の開始指令が画像処理装置10に入力された場合に開始する。印刷処理の開始指令は、例えばマウス、キーボード、タッチパネル等の入力手段(図示せず)から画像処理装置10に入力される。
 ステップS1において、画像データ取得部11は、記録媒体200から印刷処理を行う画像データを取得する。なお、画像データは連続で印刷処理を行う複数の画像を含むものとする。
 ステップS2において、ヘッド温度特性取得部12は、印刷装置50からヘッド温度特性を取得する。
 ステップS3において、ヘッド温度変化推定部21は、画像データ取得部11により取得した連続して印刷処理が行われる複数の画像それぞれについて、印刷処理におけるサーマルヘッド58の温度の時間変化を推定する。ヘッド温度変化推定部21は、例えば以下の方法で印刷処理におけるサーマルヘッド58の温度の時間変化を推定する。ヘッド温度変化推定部21は、複数の画像それぞれについて、画像を印画方向に分割し、分割した領域ごとの平均濃度を算出する。印画方向とは、記録紙52に印画を行う方向であり、本実施の形態では記録紙52の搬送方向と平行である。ヘッド温度変化推定部21は、分割した領域ごとの平均濃度を用いて印刷処理におけるサーマルヘッド58の温度の時間変化を推定する。なお、画像の平均濃度とサーマルヘッド58の温度上昇量との関係は、記憶部14に予め記憶されている。一般的に、画像の平均濃度が高いほど、サーマルヘッド58の温度上昇量は大きい。
 ステップS4において、ヘッド温度比較部22は、現在の印刷順で印刷処理を行う場合のサーマルヘッド58の温度の時間変化と、ヘッド温度特性と、の差の総和を算出する。ヘッド温度比較部22は、例えば以下の方法で差の総和を算出する。ヘッド温度比較部22は、ヘッド温度変化推定部21により推定された各画像の印刷処理におけるサーマルヘッド58の温度の時間変化を用いて、現在の印刷順で印刷処理を連続して行った場合のサーマルヘッド58の温度の時間変化を推定する。ヘッド温度比較部22は、この推定したサーマルヘッド58の温度の時間変化と、ヘッド温度特性と、の各時間における差を足し合わせることにより、差の総和を算出する。ヘッド温度比較部22は、初めてステップS4の処理を行う場合には、画像データ取得部11により取得した画像データの画像の順番で印刷処理を行う場合の差の総和を算出する。
 ステップS5において、判定部24は、印刷順として考えられる全ての組み合わせに対して、サーマルヘッド58の温度の時間変化とヘッド温度特性との差の総和が算出されているか否かを判定する。判定部24が、印刷順として考えられる全ての組み合わせに対して差の総和が算出されていないと判定すると、ステップS6に進む。
 ステップS6において、印刷順変更部23は、印刷順を変更する。
 ステップS5において、判定部24が、印刷順として考えられる全ての組み合わせに対して差の総和が算出されていると判定すると、ステップS7に進む。
 ステップS7において、印刷順変更部23は、印刷順を変更しない場合と比較して、印刷処理におけるサーマルヘッド58の温度の時間変化とヘッド温度特性との差の総和が小さくなるように印刷順を変更する。具体的には、印刷順変更部23は、印刷順として考えられる全ての組み合わせに対して算出された差の総和を用いて、印刷順を変更しない場合と比較して差の総和が小さくなる印刷順を選択して、この印刷順に変更する。本実施の形態では、印刷順変更部23は、ヘッド温度比較部22で算出された差の総和が最小となるように印刷順に変更する。
 ステップS8において、印刷データ出力部15は、印刷順変更部23により変更された印刷順で印刷処理が実行されるように、印刷装置50に印刷用の画像データを出力する。ステップS8の処理が終了すると、画像処理装置10は図5に示す制御を終了する。
 実施の形態1の印刷システム100によれば、サーマルヘッド58を有しサーマルヘッド58を発熱させることによりインクシート53の染料を記録紙52に転写する転写部74と、サーマルヘッド58の温度の時間変化を示す予め定められたヘッド温度特性と印画を行う画像に関するデータとに応じて転写部74を制御して記録紙52に印画を行う印刷処理を制御する印刷制御部82と、連続して印刷処理が行われる複数の画像に対して、印刷処理を行う複数の画像の順番である印刷順を変更しない場合と比較して、複数の画像の印刷処理におけるサーマルヘッド58の温度の時間変化とヘッド温度特性との差の総和が小さくなるように印刷順を変更する印刷順変更部23と、を備える。これにより、印刷時のサーマルヘッド58の温度変化の仕方が、サーマルヘッド58の温度補正用パラメータを作成する際の基準となるヘッド温度特性に近い形となる。したがって、印刷順を変更しない場合と比較して、サーマルヘッド58の温度補正をより適切に実施することができる。これにより、連続印刷時における印刷濃度のばらつきを抑制することができ、印刷品位の低下を抑制することができる。また、本実施の形態のように複数の染料を転写してカラー画像を印画する印刷システム100においては、印刷色のばらつきも抑制することができる。
 ここで、実施の形態1の印刷システム100により得られる効果について、図6および図7を用いて具体的に説明する。図6および図7は、実施の形態1に係る印刷システム100の効果を説明するための図である。図6および図7では、連続して印刷処理を行う画像が画像A,B,Cの3つである場合について説明する。図6および図7のグラフにおいて、縦軸はサーマルヘッド58の温度Tであり、横軸は経過時間tである。
 図6(a)は画像Aの印刷処理におけるサーマルヘッド58の温度の時間変化を示す図、図6(b)は画像Bの印刷処理におけるサーマルヘッド58の温度の時間変化を示す図、図6(c)は画像Cの印刷処理におけるサーマルヘッド58の温度の時間変化を示す図である。図6に示すように、画像A,C,Bの順で画像の平均濃度が高い。このため、印刷処理におけるサーマルヘッド58の温度上昇の傾きは、画像A,C,Bの順の大きさになる。
 図7(a)は印刷順を変更する前のサーマルヘッド58の温度の時間変化を示す図であり、図7(b)は印刷順を変更した後のサーマルヘッド58の温度の時間変化を示す図である。図7において、実線は3つの画像の印刷処理を連続で行った場合に推定されるサーマルヘッド58の温度の時間変化を示し、破線はヘッド温度特性を示す。図7(a)に示すように、印刷順を変更する前は、印刷順は画像A,B,Cの順になっている。
 実施の形態1の印刷システム100によれば、印刷順変更部23は、印刷順を変更しない場合と比較して、印刷処理におけるサーマルヘッド58の温度の時間変化とヘッド温度特性との差の総和が小さくなるように印刷順を変更する。図7(b)に示す例では、印刷順変更部23は、印刷順を画像B,C,Aの順に変更する。これにより、図7(a)と比較して、画像を連続して印刷した場合のサーマルヘッド58の温度変化の仕方がヘッド温度特性に近い形となる。このため、印刷順を変更しない場合と比較して、サーマルヘッド58の温度補正をより適切に実施することができ、連続印刷時における印刷濃度のばらつきを抑制することができる。
 また、実施の形態1の印刷システム100によれば、印刷順を変更する処理を行うことで連続印刷時における印刷濃度のばらつきを抑制している。このため、例えば印刷濃度の補正用の印刷パターンを記録紙52に印刷してサーマルヘッド58の温度補正を行う方法と比較して、記録紙52およびインクシート53の使用量を抑制することができるので、印刷コストを抑制することができる。また、サーマルヘッド58の温度補正を行うために光学センサのような新たな部品を必要としないので、製造コストを抑制することができる。
 また、実施の形態1の印刷システム100によれば、印刷順変更部23は、ヘッド温度比較部22で算出された差の総和が最小となるように印刷順を変更している。このため、サーマルヘッド58に対して、最適な温度補正を実施することができる。
 また、実施の形態1の印刷方法によれば、連続して印刷処理が行われる複数の画像に対して、印刷処理を行う複数の画像の順番である印刷順を変更しない場合と比較して、複数の画像の印刷処理におけるサーマルヘッド58の温度の時間変化とヘッド温度特性との差の総和が小さくなるように印刷順を変更するステップ(ステップS7が該当)を備える。これにより、画像を連続して印刷した場合のサーマルヘッド58の温度変化の仕方がヘッド温度特性に近い形となるため、印刷順を変更しない場合と比較して、サーマルヘッド58の温度補正をより適切に実施することができる。したがって、連続印刷時における印刷濃度および印刷色のばらつきを抑制することができ、印刷品位の低下を抑制することができる。
 なお、実施の形態1において、ヘッド温度比較部22は、サーマルヘッド58の温度の時間変化とヘッド温度特性との差の総和を算出していた。しかし、ヘッド温度比較部22は、例えば、連続して印刷処理を行う各画像の印刷処理におけるサーマルヘッド58の温度の時間変化の傾きと、各画像の印刷処理に対応する時間におけるヘッド温度特性の傾きと、の傾き差を算出するようにしてもよい。この場合であっても、印刷順変更部23は、印刷順として考えられる全ての組み合わせに対して算出された傾き差を用いて、印刷順を変更しない場合と比較して傾き差が小さくなる印刷順に変更すれば、印刷処理におけるサーマルヘッド58の温度の時間変化とヘッド温度特性との差の総和を小さくすることができる。したがって、画像を連続して印刷した場合のサーマルヘッド58の温度変化の仕方がヘッド温度特性に近い形となるため、印刷順を変更しない場合と比較して、サーマルヘッド58の温度補正をより適切に実施することができ、連続印刷時における印刷濃度のばらつきを抑制することができる。
 また、実施の形態1では、ヘッド温度変化推定部21は、画像を分割し、分割した領域ごとの平均濃度を用いて、サーマルヘッド58の温度の時間変化を推定していた。しかし、ヘッド温度変化推定部21は、画像を分割せず、画像全体の平均濃度を用いてサーマルヘッド58の温度の時間変化を推定してもよい。
 また、実施の形態1では、ヘッド温度変化推定部21は、画像の平均濃度を用いてサーマルヘッド58の温度の時間変化を推定していた。しかし、ヘッド温度変化推定部21は、画像のヒストグラムを用いてサーマルヘッド58の温度の時間変化を推定してもよい。画像のヒストグラムとは、画像の階調値と、各階調値の画素数との関係を示すものである。ヘッド温度変化推定部21は、例えば、画像を印画方向に分割し、分割した領域ごとのヒストグラムからサーマルヘッド58の温度の時間変化を推定する。この場合、ヒストグラムにおける画像の階調値とサーマルヘッド58の温度上昇量との関係が、記憶部14に予め記憶されている。一般的に、ヒストグラムとして高い階調値の画素を多く含む画像ほど、サーマルヘッド58の温度上昇量は大きくなる。ヘッド温度変化推定部21が画像のヒストグラムを用いてサーマルヘッド58の温度の時間変化を推定する場合、平均濃度では分からない階調の分布が分かるため、画像の平均濃度を用いてサーマルヘッド58の温度の時間変化を推定する場合と比較して、より正確にサーマルヘッド58の温度の時間変化を推定することができる。
 また、実施の形態1では、印刷装置50の記憶部78に、ヘッド温度特性が記憶されていた。しかし、印刷装置50の記憶部78には、ヘッド温度特性が記憶されていなくてもよく、例えばヘッド温度特性から導かれるサーマルヘッド58の温度補正用パラメータが記憶されていてもよい。この場合、画像処理装置10が、印刷装置50の記憶部78に記憶された温度補正用パラメータを用いて、ヘッド温度特性を求めればよい。
実施の形態2.
 図8は、実施の形態2に係る画像処理装置10の機能を示すブロック図である。図8に示すように、実施の形態2の画像処理装置10は、実施の形態1の画像処理装置10に加えて、画像回転部31を有する。
 画像回転部31は、転写処理において記録紙52に形成する画像の向きを変更する。画像回転部31の機能は、ヘッド温度変化推定部21から判定部24と同様、例えばプロセッサがメモリに記憶された制御プログラムを実行することにより実現される。なお、画像回転部31以外の構成については実施の形態1と同様であるため、説明を省略する。
 次に、図9を用いて、実施の形態2の画像処理装置10の動作について説明する。図9は、実施の形態2に係る画像処理装置10の動作を示すフローチャートである。
 ステップS1からステップS3の処理は、実施の形態1と同様である。ステップS3において、ヘッド温度変化推定部21が、画像データ取得部11により取得した複数の画像それぞれについて、印刷処理におけるサーマルヘッド58の温度の時間変化を推定すると、ステップS11に進む。
 ステップS11において、画像回転部31は、連続して印刷処理が行われる複数の画像の向きをそれぞれ変更する。本実施の形態では、画像回転部31は、画像を180°回転させる。
 ステップS12において、ヘッド温度変化推定部21は、ステップS11において回転させた画像それぞれについて、ステップS3と同様に、印刷処理におけるサーマルヘッド58の温度の時間変化を推定する。
 ステップS14において、ヘッド温度比較部22は、現在の印刷順で印刷処理を行う場合のサーマルヘッド58の温度の時間変化と、ヘッド温度特性と、の差の総和を算出する。具体的には、ヘッド温度比較部22は、ステップS3およびステップS12においてヘッド温度変化推定部21により推定された各画像の印刷処理におけるサーマルヘッド58の温度の時間変化を用いて、画像の向きをそれぞれ変更していない場合とそれぞれ変更した場合について、現在の印刷順で印刷処理を連続して行った場合のサーマルヘッド58の温度の時間変化を推定する。すなわち、ヘッド温度比較部22は、それぞれの画像の回転角度が0°および180°の場合のそれぞれの場合に対して、印刷処理を連続して行った場合のサーマルヘッド58の温度の時間変化を推定する。そして、ヘッド温度比較部22は、これらの推定したサーマルヘッド58の温度の時間変化と、ヘッド温度特性と、の各時間における差を足し合わせることにより、差の総和を算出する。
 ステップS5およびステップS6の処理は、実施の形態1と同様である。ステップS5およびステップS6の処理により、印刷処理の順番として考えられる全ての組み合わせに対して差の総和が算出されると、ステップS17に進む。
 ステップS17において、印刷順変更部23は、実施の形態1と同様に、印刷順を変更しない場合と比較して、印刷処理におけるサーマルヘッド58の温度の時間変化とヘッド温度特性との差の総和が小さくなるように印刷順を変更する。さらに、画像回転部31は、画像の向きを変更しない場合と比較して、ヘッド温度比較部22で算出された差の総和が小さくなるように、複数の画像の向きをそれぞれ変更する。本実施の形態では、ヘッド温度比較部22で算出された差の総和が最小となるように、印刷順変更部23が印刷順を変更し、画像回転部31が複数の画像の向きをそれぞれ変更する。
 ステップS8の処理は、実施の形態1と同様である。ステップS8において、印刷データ出力部15は、印刷順変更部23により変更された印刷順および画像回転部31により変更された画像の向きで印刷処理が実行されるように、印刷装置50に印刷用の画像データを出力する。
 実施の形態2の印刷システム100によれば、実施の形態1の印刷システム100に加えて、画像の向きを変更する画像回転部31を備える。画像の向きが変わると、印刷処理におけるサーマルヘッド58の温度の時間変化が変わる可能性がある。例えば、転写処理の前半に画像の色の濃度が比較的高い部分が転写される場合と、転写処理の前半に画像の色の濃度が比較的低い部分が転写される場合とでは、サーマルヘッド58の温度の時間変化は異なる。サーマルヘッド58の温度の時間変化が変わると、サーマルヘッド58の温度の時間変化とヘッド温度特性との差の総和も変化する可能性がある。実施の形態2の印刷システム100によれば、画像回転部31は、画像の向きを変更しない場合と比較して、差の総和が小さくなるように複数の画像の向きをそれぞれ変更する。これにより、実施の形態1と比較して、画像を連続して印刷した場合のサーマルヘッド58の温度変化の仕方が、ヘッド温度特性により近い形となるため、サーマルヘッド58の温度補正をより適切に実施することができる。したがって、連続印刷時における印刷濃度および印刷色のばらつきを抑制することができ、印刷品位の低下を抑制することができる。
 また、実施の形態2では、ヘッド温度比較部22で算出された差の総和が最小となるように、印刷順変更部23が印刷順を変更し、画像回転部31が複数の画像の向きをそれぞれ変更している。このため、サーマルヘッド58に対して、最適な温度補正を実施することができる。
 また、実施の形態2の印刷方法によれば、連続して印刷処理が行われる複数の画像に対して、印刷処理を行う複数の画像の順番である印刷順を変更しない場合と比較して、複数の画像の印刷処理におけるサーマルヘッド58の温度の時間変化とヘッド温度特性との差の総和が小さくなるように印刷順を変更し、画像の向きを変更しない場合と比較して、差の総和が小さくなるように、複数の画像の向きをそれぞれ変更するステップ(ステップS17が該当)を備える。これにより、実施の形態1と比較して、画像を連続して印刷した場合のサーマルヘッド58の温度変化の仕方が、ヘッド温度特性により近い形となるため、サーマルヘッド58の温度補正をより適切に実施することができる。したがって、連続印刷時における印刷濃度および印刷色のばらつきを抑制することができ、印刷品位の低下を抑制することができる。
 なお、実施の形態2では、画像回転部31は、画像を180°回転させていた。しかし、画像の回転角度は180°に限られない。例えば、画像の縦横比が同じである場合には、画像回転部31は画像を90°ずつ回転させてもよい。この場合、ヘッド温度変化推定部21は、0°、90°、180°および270°のそれぞれの回転角度に対して、印刷処理におけるサーマルヘッド58の温度の時間変化を推定すればよい。
実施の形態3.
 図10は、実施の形態3に係る画像処理装置10の機能を示すブロック図である。図10に示すように、実施の形態3の画像処理装置10は、実施の形態1の画像処理装置10に加えて、ガンマ変換部41およびガンマ変換カーブ補正部42を有する。
 ガンマ変換部41は、画像データ取得部11により取得した画像データの画像それぞれに対して、ガンマ変換を行う。ガンマ変換とは、入力された画像データの入力階調値に対して、目的の階調特性が得られるように、ガンマ変換カーブに従って出力階調値に変換する処理である。ガンマ変換カーブは、入力階調値と出力階調値とを対応付けるものであり、入力階調値に対する演算式の形で記憶部14に記憶されていてもよいし、入力階調値と出力階調値とを対応付けたLUT(Look Up Table)の形で記憶部14に記憶されていてもよい。
 ガンマ変換カーブ補正部42は、ガンマ変換に使用するガンマ変換カーブを補正する。
 ガンマ変換部41およびガンマ変換カーブ補正部42の機能は、ヘッド温度変化推定部21から判定部24と同様、例えばプロセッサがメモリに記憶された制御プログラムを実行することにより実現される。なお、ガンマ変換部41およびガンマ変換カーブ補正部42以外の構成については実施の形態1と同様であるため、説明を省略する。
 次に、図11を用いて、実施の形態3の画像処理装置10の動作について説明する。図11は、実施の形態3に係る画像処理装置10の動作を示すフローチャートである。
 ステップS1およびステップS2の処理は、実施の形態1と同様である。
 ステップS21において、ガンマ変換部41は、画像データ取得部11により取得した画像データの画像それぞれに対して、ガンマ変換を行う。
 ステップS3からステップS7の処理は、実施の形態1と同様である。ステップS7において、印刷順変更部23が、印刷順を変更しない場合と比較して、印刷処理におけるサーマルヘッド58の温度の時間変化とヘッド温度特性との差の総和が小さくなるように印刷順を変更すると、ステップS22に進む。
 ステップS22において、判定部24は、ステップS7で変更された後の印刷順において、ヘッド温度比較部22により算出された差の総和が閾値より小さいか否かを判定する。閾値は、予め設定された値であり、記憶部14に記憶されている。ステップS22において、判定部24により差の総和が閾値より小さいと判定されると、ステップS8に進む。一方、ステップS22において、判定部24により差の総和が閾値以上であると判定されると、ステップS23に進む。
 ステップS23において、ガンマ変換カーブ補正部42は、ガンマ変換に使用するガンマ変換カーブを補正する。具体的には、ガンマ変換カーブ補正部42は、ガンマ変換カーブを補正しない場合と比較して、ヘッド温度比較部22により算出された差の総和が小さくなるように、ガンマ変換カーブを補正する。本実施の形態では、ガンマ変換カーブ補正部42は、ガンマ変換カーブの傾きを変えずに、例えばガンマ変換カーブの最高階調値のみを下げるなどの補正を行う。
 ステップS24において、ガンマ変換部41は、ステップS23で補正されたガンマ変換カーブを用いてガンマ変換を実施する。
 実施の形態3の印刷システム100によれば、実施の形態1の印刷システム100に加えて、連続して印刷処理を行う複数の画像それぞれに対してガンマ変換を行うガンマ変換部41と、ガンマ変換に使用するガンマ変換カーブを補正するガンマ変換カーブ補正部42と、を備える。ガンマ変換カーブが変わると、印刷処理におけるサーマルヘッド58の温度の時間変化が変化し、サーマルヘッド58の温度の時間変化とヘッド温度特性との差の総和も変化する。実施の形態3の印刷システム100によれば、ガンマ変換カーブ補正部42は、ガンマ変換カーブを補正しない場合と比較して、ヘッド温度比較部22により算出された差の総和が小さくなるように、ガンマ変換カーブを補正する。これにより、実施の形態1と比較して、画像を連続して印刷した場合のサーマルヘッド58の温度変化の仕方が、サーマルヘッド58の温度特性により近い形となるため、サーマルヘッド58の温度補正をより適切に実施することができる。したがって、連続印刷時における印刷濃度および印刷色のばらつきを抑制することができ、印刷品位の低下を抑制することができる。
 また、実施の形態3において、ガンマ変換カーブ補正部42は、印刷順変更部23により変更された後の印刷順において、ヘッド温度比較部22で算出された差の総和が予め設定された閾値以上である場合に、ガンマ変換カーブを補正する。これにより、差の総和が閾値より小さい場合にはガンマ変換カーブを補正しないので、画質の低下を抑制することができる。
 また、実施の形態3において、ガンマ変換カーブ補正部42は、ガンマ変換カーブの傾きを一定に維持した状態でガンマ変換カーブの補正を行っている。これにより、ガンマ変換カーブの形が維持されるので、画像の各階調の連続性が維持され、画質の低下を抑制することができる。
 また、実施の形態3の印刷方法によれば、連続して印刷処理が行われる複数の画像に対して、印刷処理を行う複数の画像の順番である印刷順を変更しない場合と比較して、複数の画像の印刷処理におけるサーマルヘッド58の温度の時間変化とヘッド温度特性との差の総和が小さくなるように印刷順を変更する第1のステップ(ステップS7が該当)と、ガンマ変換カーブを補正しない場合と比較して、差の総和が小さくなるように、ガンマ変換カーブを補正する第2のステップ(ステップS23が該当)と、を備える。これにより、実施の形態1と比較して、画像を連続して印刷した場合のサーマルヘッド58の温度変化の仕方が、サーマルヘッド58の温度特性により近い形となるため、サーマルヘッド58の温度補正をより適切に実施することができる。したがって、連続印刷時における印刷濃度および印刷色のばらつきを抑制することができ、印刷品位の低下を抑制することができる。

Claims (9)

  1.  サーマルヘッドを有し前記サーマルヘッドを発熱させることによりインクシートの染料を記録紙に転写する転写部と、
     前記サーマルヘッドの温度の時間変化を示す予め定められたヘッド温度特性と印画を行う画像に関するデータとに応じて前記転写部を制御して前記記録紙に印画を行う印刷処理を制御する印刷制御部と、
     連続して前記印刷処理が行われる複数の画像に対して、前記印刷処理を行う前記複数の画像の順番である印刷順を変更しない場合と比較して、前記複数の画像の前記印刷処理における前記サーマルヘッドの温度の時間変化と前記ヘッド温度特性との差の総和が小さくなるように前記印刷順を変更する印刷順変更部と、
     を備える印刷システム。
  2.  前記複数の画像それぞれについて、前記印刷処理における前記サーマルヘッドの温度の時間変化を推定するヘッド温度変化推定部と、
     前記ヘッド温度変化推定部により推定された前記サーマルヘッドの温度の時間変化を用いて前記差の総和を算出するヘッド温度比較部と、
     を備える請求項1に記載の印刷システム。
  3.  前記印刷順変更部は、前記差の総和が最小となるように前記印刷順を変更する請求項1または2に記載の印刷システム。
  4.  前記複数の画像の向きをそれぞれ変更する画像回転部を備え、
     前記画像回転部は、前記複数の画像の向きを変更しない場合と比較して、前記差の総和が小さくなるように前記複数の画像の向きをそれぞれ変更する請求項1から3のいずれか一項に記載の印刷システム。
  5.  前記差の総和が最小となるように、前記印刷順変更部が前記印刷順を変更し、前記画像回転部が前記複数の画像の向きをそれぞれ変更する請求項4に記載の印刷システム。
  6.  前記複数の画像それぞれに対してガンマ変換を行うガンマ変換部と、
     前記ガンマ変換に使用するガンマ変換カーブを補正するガンマ変換カーブ補正部と、
     を備え、
     前記ガンマ変換カーブ補正部は、前記ガンマ変換カーブを補正しない場合と比較して、前記差の総和が小さくなるように前記ガンマ変換カーブを補正する請求項1から5のいずれか一項に記載の印刷システム。
  7.  前記ガンマ変換カーブ補正部は、前記印刷順変更部により変更された後の前記印刷順において前記差の総和が予め設定された閾値以上である場合に、前記ガンマ変換カーブを補正する請求項6に記載の印刷システム。
  8.  前記ガンマ変換カーブ補正部は、前記ガンマ変換カーブの傾きを一定に維持した状態で前記ガンマ変換カーブを補正する請求項6または7に記載の印刷システム。
  9.  サーマルヘッドを有し前記サーマルヘッドを発熱させることによりインクシートの染料を記録紙に転写する転写部と、前記サーマルヘッドの温度の時間変化を示す予め定められたヘッド温度特性と印画を行う画像に関するデータとに応じて前記転写部を制御して前記記録紙に印画を行う印刷処理を制御する印刷制御部と、を備える印刷システムに用いられる印刷方法であって、
     連続して前記印刷処理が行われる複数の画像に対して、前記印刷処理を行う前記複数の画像の順番である印刷順を変更しない場合と比較して、前記複数の画像の前記印刷処理における前記サーマルヘッドの温度の時間変化と前記ヘッド温度特性との差の総和が小さくなるように前記印刷順を変更するステップを備える印刷方法。
