用いるメディア分散機としては、特に限定されないが、スターミルナノゲッター、スターミルZRS(アシザワ・ファインテック株式会社、商品名)、ウルトラアペックスミル、デュアルアペックスミル(寿工業株式会社、商品名)、ペイントシェーカー、ピコグレンミル(淺田鉄工株式会社、商品名)、マイクロメディア(ビューラー株式会社、商品名)、MSCミル(日本コークス工業株式会社、商品名)、サンドミル等が挙げられる。
使用する分散メディア粒子径は、分散処理の効率化、上記所定の累積粒度分布を得る点から、0.05~2.0mmのものを用いることができる。
用いる分散メディア粒子の材質としては、特に限定されないが、分散体への金属不純物を低減するという観点から、ガラスビーズやアルミナ、ジルコニア、炭化ケイ素、窒化ケイ素等のセラミックス製のメディアなどを用いるこができる。
メディア分散機の回転周速(ロータの最先端部分の周速)や分散時間などは黒色顔料種などにより所定の周速・時間に設定される。
また、ロール分散は、ロール間圧力を利用した圧縮作用と、周速度が異なるロール間でのせん断作用により分散を行うものが挙げられ、例えば、ロールミルなどが挙げられる。ロールミルとしては特に限定されず、公知の三本ロールミルを使用できる。三本ロールミルは、三本のロール(後ロール、中ロール、前ロール)を備え、互いに異なる方向・所定の速度比で回転・接触し圧力・せん断力を与え本開示の所定の累積粒度分布となる黒色顔料を分散(調整)することができる。
上記分散条件の設定等により得られる体積基準による累積粒度分布の上記要件X~Zを満たす黒色顔料の中で、更なる鮮やかな漆黒の点、本開示の効果を更に発揮せしめる点、取り扱い性の点などから、カーボンブラックまたは墨から得られる黒色顔料の使用が望ましい。
上記(体積平均粒径)/(個数平均粒径)を2~8の範囲に調整する手段などとしては、例えば、平均粒子径が異なる顔料の混合、あるいは分級や濾過処理などにより、調整することができる。
これらの上記特性の黒色顔料の含有量が3%未満であると、本開示の効果を発揮することができず、一方、30%を越えると、筆記感が重くなったり、インクの安定性が損なわれる場合があり好ましくない。
本開示に用いるボルネオール(borneol)は、墨の香りを想起させる成分であり、竜脳、ボルネオショウノウとも呼ばれる二環式モノテルペンであり、化学式はC10H18O、分子量は154.14である。このボルネオールの香りは、樟脳に類似しているが揮発性がそれに比べると乏しく、樟脳と同じくボルナン骨格を有し、樟脳を還元することによって得ることができる。なお、従来より、墨自体は、墨の香りがしないものであり、膠のマスキングから発展したもの(墨の香りを想起させる成分)である。
また、このボルネオールには、光学異性体が存在し、(-)体(「l-ボルネオール」、下記化学式図)は竜脳樹(Dryobalanops aromatica)やラベンダーに、(+)体はタカサゴギク等に含まれる。
このボルネオールの含有量が0.001%以上とすることにより、墨の香りを想起することができ、一方、10%以下とすることにより、インクの安定性を保持することができる。
なお、上記ボルネオールと共に、香りの持続性の増強、香りの差別化などから、必要に応じて、甘松、白檀、梅花、麝香などの香料成分を適宜量含有しても良いものである。
本開示の水性ボールペン用インク組成物には、少なくとも、上述の要件X~Zを満たす黒色顔料と、ボルネオールとを含有することを特徴とするものであり、その他に、水溶性溶剤を含有することができ、また、上記黒色顔料以外に汎用の着色剤を必要に応じて含有することができる。
水溶性染料としては、黒色系等の直接染料、酸性染料、食用染料、塩基性染料のいずれも本開示の効果を損なわない範囲で適宜量用いることができる。
用いることができる潤滑剤としては、顔料の表面処理剤にも用いられる多価アルコールの脂肪酸エステル、糖の高級脂肪酸エステル、ポリオキシアルキレン高級脂肪酸エステル、アルキル燐酸エステルなどのノニオン系や、リン酸エステル、高級脂肪酸アミドのアルキルスルホン酸塩、アルキルアリルスルホン酸塩などのアニオン系、ポリアルキレングリコールの誘導体やポリエーテル変性シリコーンなどが挙げられる。
用いることができる増粘剤としては、例えば、合成高分子、セルロースおよび多糖類からなる群から選ばれた少なくとも一種が望ましい。具体的には、アラビアガム、トラガカントガム、グアーガム、ローカストビーンガム、アルギン酸、カラギーナン、ゼラチン、キサンタンガム、ウェランガム、サクシノグリカン、ダイユータンガム、デキストラン、メチルセルロース、エチルセルロース、ヒドロキシエチルセルロース、カルボキシメチルセルロース、デンプングリコール酸及びその塩、ポリビニルピロリドン、ポリビニルメチルエーテル、ポリアクリル酸及びその塩、ポリエチレシオキサイド、酢酸ビニルとポリビニルピロリドンの共重合体、スチレン-アクリル酸共重合体及びその塩などが挙げられる。
上記分散剤、潤滑剤、増粘剤、pH調整剤、防錆剤、防腐剤もしくは防菌剤などの各成分は、1種単独で使用してもよく、2種以上を併用してもよい。また、これらの市販品があればそれを使用することができる
本開示における水性ボールペンとしては、例えば、上記組成の水性ボールペン用インク組成物を直径が0.18~2.0mmのボールを備えたボールペン用インク収容体(リフィール)に収容すると共に、該インク収容体内に収容された水性インク組成物とは相溶性がなく、かつ、該水性インク組成物に対して比重が小さい物質、例えば、ポリブテン、シリコーンオイル、鉱油等がインク追従体として収容されるものが挙げられる。直径が上記範囲のボールを備えたものであれば、用いる水性ボールペンの構造などは、特に限定されず、特に、上記水性インク組成物をポリプロピレンチューブのインク収容管に充填し、先端のステンレスチップ(ボールは超鋼合金)を有するリフィールの水性ボールペンに仕上げたものが望ましい。
更に、軸筒自体をインク収容体として該軸筒内に上記構成の水性ボールペン用インク組成物を充填したコレクター構造(インク保持機構)を備えた直液式のボールペンであってもよいものである。
このA/Bが250~500となる水性ボールペンとすることにより、通常の黒色水性ボールペンよりも流量が多い割にも漆黒の黒味の強い描線が実現できる水性ボールペンが得られることとなる。
カーボンブラック(MCF-88:三菱ケミカル社製)24質量%、スチレンアクリル樹脂(ジョンクリルJ-63:BASF社製)16質量%、トリエタノールアミン2質量%、エチレングリコール10質量%、蒸留水48質量%にて調整した混合液を、粒子径1mmのガラスビーズをメディアとして、ペイントシェーカーにより10分間分散して下記粒子径分布の黒色顔料分散体1を得た。
D50:0.5μm、D10:0.2μm、D90:3.4μm
製造例1の分散時間を3分間に変更して、下記粒子径分布の黒色顔料分散体2を得た。
D50:1.2μm、D10:0.3μm、D90:6.1μm
製造例1の分散時間を30分間に変更して、下記粒子径分布の黒色顔料分散体3を得た。
D50:0.1μm、D10:0.04μm、D90:1.2μm
上記製造例1~3の黒色顔料分散体1~3を用いると共に、下記表1に示す配合組成などにより、常法により、各水性ボールペン用インク組成物を調整した。
上記実施例1~6及び比較例1~3で得られた水性ボールペン用インク組成物における黒色顔料のX(D50)、Y(D10)、Z(D90)を算出すると共に、下記評価方法にて描線黒色度及び艶感ついて評価を行った。
これらの結果を下記表1に示す。
(水性ボールペンの作製)
上記で得られた各インク組成物を用いて水性ボールペンを作製した。具体的には、ボールペン〔三菱鉛筆株式会社製、商品名:UM-100〕の軸を使用し、内径3.8mm、長さ90mmポリプロピレン製インク収容管とステンレス製チップ(超硬合金ボール、ボール径0.7mm)及び該収容管と該チップを連結する継手からなるリフィールに上記各水性インクを充填し、インク後端に鉱油を主成分とするインク追従体を装填し、水性ボールペンを作製した。
得られた実施例の各水性ボールペンを用いて、下記評価方法で描線黒色度および艶感の評価を行った。
描線黒色度は、市販のPPC用紙に各辺1cmの正方形を描き、これを塗りつぶして下記基準にて評価した。
評価基準:
A:磨墨液よりも強い黒み
B:磨墨液と同等の黒み
C:磨墨液より劣る黒味
艶感は、市販のPPC用紙に各辺1cmの正方形を描き、これを塗りつぶして下記基準にて評価した。
評価基準:
A:磨墨液と同等の艶感
B:磨墨液よりも艶感が強い
C:磨墨液よりも艶感が弱い
(100m当たりの流量(mg)の算出方法)
筆記荷重100gf、筆記角度75度、筆記速度4.5mm/minの条件にて、機械筆記試験による螺旋筆記を行い、0-100mの流量より算出した。
上記水性ボールペン(ボール径:0.7mm)のA/Bは、330であり、上記水性ボールペン(ボール径:0.5mm)のA/Bは、385であり、上記水性ボールペン(ボール径:0.38mm)のA/Bは、270であることが確認され、しかも、これらの水性ボールペンは、流量が多い割にも漆黒の黒味の強い描線が実現できることも判った。
Claims (4)
- 少なくとも、下記要件X~Zを満たす黒色顔料と、ボルネオールとを含有することを特徴とする水性ボールペン用インク組成物。
X:体積基準による累積粒度分布における50%粒径(D50)が0.2~1.0μm
Y:体積基準による累積粒度分布における10%粒径(D10)が0.1~0.3μm
Z:体積基準による累積粒度分布における90%粒径(D90)が1.0~5.0μm - 前記黒色顔料の体積平均径/個数平均径が2~8であることを特徴とする請求項1記載の水性ボールペン用インク組成物。
- 請求項1又は2記載の水性ボールペン用インク組成物を搭載したことを特徴とする水性ボールペン。
- 水性ボールペンの平均流量(mg/0-100m)をA、ボール径(mm)をBとした場合に、A/Bが250~500であることを特徴とする請求項3記載の水性ボールペン。
