図1は、液体供給システム10の概略構成を示す斜視図である。図1には、互いに直交するXYZ軸が描かれている。図1のXYZ軸は他の図のXYZ軸にも対応している。液体供給システム10は、液体供給ユニットとしてのカートリッジ20と、液体噴射装置としてのプリンター50とを備える。液体供給システム10では、プリンター50のキャリッジ520に、利用者によってカートリッジ20が装着可能である。

図20は、第2実施形態における液体供給ユニット300bの構成を示す模式図である。第2実施形態において、液体供給ユニット300bは、カートリッジ20bと、ボトル302と、液体供給チューブ304とを含む。カートリッジ20bは、液体供給チューブ304が接続される点を除き、第1実施形態のカートリッジ20と同じ構造である。
図21は、第3実施形態における液体供給ユニット300cの構成を示す模式図である。液体供給ユニット300cは、カートリッジ20cと端子部90とを備える。端子部90は、カートリッジ20cとは別体のパーツであり、カートリッジ20cに取り付け可能に構成されている。端子部90には、基板15が設けられている。基板15には、プリンター50側の電極部61と接触する接触部16が備えられている。端子部90がカートリッジ20cに取り付けられた状態において、液体供給ユニット300cの見かけの形状は、第1実施形態のカートリッジ20とほぼ同じになる。そのため、液体供給ユニット300cにおいても、第1実施形態と同じ作用効果を奏することができる。なお、端子部90の形状は、端子部90がカートリッジ20cに取り付けられた状態において、接触部16がプリンター50の電極部61に接触可能であればどのような形状でもよい。本実施形態では、図21に示すように、略三角柱状に形成されている。
<第1変形例>
上記実施形態では、前述した関係(1)~(4)が、全てが満たされている。これに対して、関係(1)~(4)は、その一部のみが満たされても良いし、全てが満たされていなくても良い。例えば、上記実施形態における液体供給システム10は、関係(1)を満たしていなくても良い。例えば、上記実施形態における液体供給システム10は、関係(2)を満たしていなくても良い。例えば、上記実施形態における液体供給システム10は、関係(3)を満たしていなくても良い。例えば、上記実施形態における液体供給システム10は、関係(4)を満たしていなくても良い。
上記実施形態において、第1壁部201~第7壁部207の各壁部は、カートリッジ20を構成できるものであれば、外方に面する部分の形状や、内方に面する部分の形状は、平坦である必要はなく、凹凸を含む構造であっても良い。例えば、第1のカートリッジ側規制部210は、第4壁部204の凹凸の一部として、第4壁部204に設けられ、あるいは、含まれていても良い。第2のカートリッジ側規制部221は、第3壁部203の凹凸の一部として、第3壁部203に設けられ、あるいは、含まれていても良い。また、液体供給部280を取り囲む外周壁288は、第1壁部201の凹凸の一部として、第1壁部201に設けられ、あるいは、含まれていても良い。
上記実施形態では、図14に示すように、液体供給部280は、フォーム34と板バネ35とを備えている。これに対して、液体供給部280の構造は、液体収容部200からプリンター50の液体導入部640にインクを供給可能であれば、どのような構造でも構わない。例えば、フォーム34と板バネ35のいずれか一方を省略しても良い。また、カートリッジ側フィルター36とフォーム34と板バネ35とのすべて、あるいは一部が、一または複数のフォームに置き換えられてもよい。
上記実施形態では、カートリッジ20は、7つの壁部により構成されている。これに対して、内部にインクを収容可能な空間が形成されるのであれば、カートリッジ20を構成する壁部の数は7つに限られない。例えば、6つ以下の壁部により構成されても良いし、8つ以上の壁部により構成されてもよい。また、例えば、球状あるいは曲面状の1つ以上の壁部によって構成されてもよい。その他、曲面状の壁部と板状の壁部とを組み合わせて構成されてもよい。
本発明は、インクジェットプリンター及びそのインクカートリッジに限らず、インク以外の他の液体を消費する任意の液体噴射装置及びそれらの液体噴射装置に用いられるカートリッジ(液体供給ユニット)にも適用することができる。例えば、以下のような各種の液体噴射装置に用いられるカートリッジとして本発明は適用可能である。
(1)ファクシミリ装置等の画像記録装置
(2)液晶ディスプレイ等の画像表示装置用のカラーフィルタの製造に用いられる色材噴射装置
(3)有機EL(Electro Luminescence)ディスプレイや、面発光ディスプレイ (Field Emission Display、FED)等の電極形成に用いられる電極材噴射装置
(4)バイオチップ製造に用いられる生体有機物を含む液体を噴射する液体噴射装置
(5)精密ピペットとしての試料噴射装置
(6)潤滑油の噴射装置
(7)樹脂液の噴射装置
(8)時計やカメラ等の精密機械にピンポイントで潤滑油を噴射する液体噴射装置
(9)光通信素子等に用いられる微小半球レンズ(光学レンズ)などを形成するために紫外線硬化樹脂液等の透明樹脂液を基板上に噴射する液体噴射装置
(10)基板などをエッチングするために酸性又はアルカリ性のエッチング液を噴射する液体噴射装置
(11)他の任意の微小量の液滴を吐出させる液体消費ヘッドを備える液体噴射装置

- 液体噴射装置のキャリッジに装着されるように構成され、前記キャリッジの液体導入部に液体を供給する液体供給ユニットであって、
第1壁部と、
前記第1壁部に対向する第2壁部と、
前記1壁部と前記第2壁部とに交差する第3壁部と、
前記1壁部と前記第2壁部とに交差し、前記第3壁部と対向する第4壁部と、
前記1壁部と前記第2壁部と前記第3壁部と前記第4壁部とに交差する第5壁部と、
前記1壁部と前記第2壁部と前記第3壁部と前記第4壁部とに交差し、前記第5壁部と対向する第6壁部と、
前記第5壁部と前記第6壁部とに交差し、前記第1壁部と前記第4壁部との間に位置する第7壁部と、を備え、
前記第1壁部には、液体供給部と、前記液体供給部を囲み、前記第2壁部から前記第1壁部に向かう方向に突出し前記キャリッジのシール部材に当接する外周壁と、が形成され、
前記液体供給部は前記液体導入部と接触することで前記液体導入部に前記液体を供給するフィルターを有し、
前記第3壁部と前記第4壁部との間の距離は、前記第5壁部と前記第6壁部との間の距離より大きく、
前記第1壁部から前記第2壁部に向かう方向に平面視したとき、前記外周壁の前記第3壁部から前記第4壁部に向かう第1の方向における長さL1は、前記第5壁部から前記第6壁部に向かう第2の方向における長さL2より大きく、
前記液体供給ユニットが前記キャリッジに装着された状態において、前記第1の方向が前記キャリッジの移動方向に沿っている、
