Definitions
- the present invention relates to a coating composition used in a separator for a redox flow battery, and more particularly, to a coating composition containing ionic inorganic particles and a separator for a redox flow battery using the same.
- Redox flow battery is one of the environmentally friendly energy storage technologies, such as wind and solar energy, attracting attention around the world in conjunction with environmental issues and securing energy sources.
- Redox flow battery is a system that charge and discharge through the oxidation and reduction of the active material in the electrolyte is a device for storing the chemical energy of the electrolyte in the form of electrical energy.
- Redox flow cells are chromium-chromium (Cr-Cr), vanadium-tin (V-Sn), zinc-bromine (Zn-Br), vanadium-iron (V-Fe), vanadium-vanadium (depending on the redox couple). VV) and the like.
- Zn-Br RFB zinc-bromine redox flow battery
- Zn-Br RFB zinc-bromine redox flow battery
- a redox flow battery charge and discharge are performed while an electrolyte solution including an active material causing an oxidation and reduction reaction is circulated between the electrode and the storage tank on the opposite side.
- the redox flow battery includes a tank in which active materials having different oxidation states are stored, a pump for circulating the active material during charge and discharge, and a unit cell fractionated into a separator, and the unit cell includes an electrode, an electrolyte, and a separator.
- the separator may be referred to as an ion exchange membrane in the redox flow battery electrode, and is a core material of the redox flow battery and plays an important role in battery life and price determination.
- the redox flow battery ion exchange membrane should have excellent hydrophilicity and durability as well as selective permeability of ions in the electrolyte, low electrical resistance and diffusion coefficient, excellent chemical resistance and mechanical properties, and low manufacturing cost.
- the separator of the redox flow battery is a key material that generates a current flow through the movement of ions generated by reacting with the positive electrode and the negative electrode during charge and discharge.
- a porous polyethylene separator is used as a redox flow battery.
- the separators have limitations that cause crossover of ions between the positive electrode and the negative electrode electrolyte, lower the energy density of the battery, and have insufficient resistance to bromine, thereby making it difficult to sufficiently secure the life of the battery.
- US Patent No. 4190707 and Korean Patent No. 1042931 disclose microporous separators for alkaline or secondary batteries, but such conventional porous separators prevent crossover of ions between the positive electrode and the negative electrode electrolyte required in a redox flow battery. There is no suggestion on the properties that can be prevented or how to ensure resistance to bromine.
- Japanese Laid-Open Patent Nos. 1944-260183, 2008-027627, and 2013-03627 disclose a separator using a vinyl-based polymer as a hydrophilic polymer. Long term durability is weak and there is no suggestion on how to increase ion permeability.
- Japanese Patent No. 195-107860 aims to provide a redox flow battery diaphragm produced by graft polymerization of a reactive monomer having hydrophilic properties well expressed in a stretched film mainly composed of polyolefin having an elongation of 10% or more. And there is no improvement in durability, such as chemical resistance.
- Korean Laid-Open Patent Publication No. 2009-0046087 relates to a separator for a redox flow battery having a porous polymer membrane attached to both sides of an ion exchange membrane, and a redox flow battery including the separator.
- the structure of the present invention is to improve the mechanical strength of the ion exchange membrane.
- Disclosed is a technique for preparing a separator.
- the separator may improve mechanical strength, but the porous separators on both sides may cause a problem of suppressing ion exchangeability of the electrolyte, resulting in a decrease in energy efficiency of the redox flow battery.
- Korean Laid-Open Patent No. 2013-0025582 relates to an anion exchange membrane for a redox battery and a method of manufacturing the same, wherein the anion exchange membrane is 4-vinylbenzyl chloride (VBC), styrene (St) and 2-hydroxyethyl acrylate (HEA). Synthesis of a copolymer using a monomer, followed by amination reaction and crosslinking reaction.
- VBC 4-vinylbenzyl chloride
- St styrene
- HOA 2-hydroxyethyl acrylate
- This patent contains most of the structure of benzene with excellent dimensional stability in structure, including the cross-linking reaction in the manufacture of the membrane is excellent in durability, and there is no permeation of vanadium ions, redox pairs, and can be efficiently used in redox flow battery and Although it provides a manufacturing method for this, there is a problem in that the productivity is low because the continuous process is difficult due to the production of a film using casting.
- Korean Patent Laid-Open Publication No. 2013-0132107 relates to a composition for filling an ion exchange membrane and a method for preparing an ion exchange membrane using the same, but PVA resin is used for hydrophilicity and ion exchangeability, but the resin itself has poor durability and chemical resistance. There is a need for a solution.
- Korean Patent Application Publication No. 2014-0098189 uses an ion exchange resin composition containing a fluorine-based polymer electrolyte polymer for the purpose of providing a redox flow secondary battery having low electrical resistance, excellent current efficiency, and durability.
- a technique of manufacturing a separator by a casting method but there is a problem in that productivity is low due to difficulty in a continuous process as a manufacturing process of a membrane using casting.
- a membrane for a Zn-Br redox flow battery of a prior non-patent document is an ion exchange resin.
- evaluation of the redox flow battery using the porous polyethylene membranes SF600 (Asahi Kasei Co.) and Nafion 117 (Dupont Co.) was performed.

Description
또한, 이온교환막으로 시판되고 있는 분리막 제품으로는 Daramic, CMV(canalicular membrane vesicle) 막(Selemion사), AMV(Apical membrane vesicles) 막(Selemion사), 그리고 Nafion(Dufont사) 막 등이 있다.
