- a lighting device for vehicles which has a flat light guide. On a narrow side of the surface light guide light is coupled. Decoupling elements are arranged on a rear flat side of the flat optical waveguide in the main emission direction, so that coupled-in light incident on it is reflected toward a front flat side and decoupled there. As a result, a luminous area is generated for generating a predetermined light distribution.
- a disadvantage of the known lighting device is that the decoupling elements are produced by printing or formed as an erosion or etching structure, so that they are clearly visible to a viewer, especially in the non-illuminated state of the same. This is perceived as disturbing.
- the illuminating device has a hologram luminous unit which has, on the one hand, a light source unit and, on the other hand, an optical unit with a hologram element.
- the hologram element has such a structure that a light beam emitted from the light source unit is diffracted in accordance with a predetermined light distribution.
- a lighting device for vehicles is known in which the hologram element is applied to a cover of the lighting device.
- a virtual hologram luminescent surface for generating, for example, a turn signal function runs in the plane of the hologram element.

- planar luminous elements which are designed as OLED elements.
- OLED elements are surface-mounted LED light sources for generating an arbitrarily shaped, homogeneously luminous light surface.
- the OLED technology is very complex and therefore expensive.
- a light function with OLED Elements must be structurally received and held, so that always on at least one side of the OLED element, a holding geometry must be provided, which is visible to a viewer.
- the appearance of a light function with one or more OLED elements can advantageously be improved and replaced by using a virtual hologram light surface, since this does not require a constructive connection, but appears as a floating luminous surface generated in the space.
- the invention in connection with the preamble of claim 1, characterized in that the hologram element between the light source unit and the cover is arranged so that it is backlit by means of the light source unit, and in that the hologram element has such a structure that the Hologrammleucht Structure between the hologram element and the cover is arranged to form a distance to the hologram element and the cover.
- the hologram illumination unit has such a hologram element that a virtual hologram luminescent surface is formed in a region between the hologram element and a cover plate of the illumination device. This results in a floating, virtual luminous surface, which provides a space due to a distance to the cover of a light function generated thereby.
- the hologram illuminated surface is formed as a diffused light-emitting virtual luminous surface, in which the light is diffused.
- the viewer perceives them as a uniform, homogeneously luminous surface.
- the hologram luminous surface may alternatively have a structuring which is visible to the viewer. Due to the distance of the hologram luminous surface to the cover, the light emission surface of the cover can also be increased.
- the hologram luminous surface extends evenly and / or parallel to the hologram element.
- the hologram lighting unit advantageously has a simple construction.
- the hologram element is designed as a volume hologram element.
- the volume hologram element may be formed as a volume transmission hologram element or as a volume reflection hologram element.
- Light directing structures of the volume hologram element are almost invisible to the viewer.
- the light distribution information written in the hologram element includes information about geometric transformations and phase transformations.
- the volume hologram element is illuminated by a light source, the incident light is diffracted according to the light distribution information stored in the volume hologram element at its lattice structures, so that a light field with a specific spectral geometric intensity distribution function is generated, whereby a desired light radiation, light direction and / or light distribution is achieved .
- the hologram element which is designed as a defractive optical element, improve the efficiency of the optical unit, because a more precise light control or light distribution is achieved by means of the diffraction structures.
- the light guidance information of the hologram element is always based on the illumination from a predefined direction, the so-called reference or reconstruction direction.
- the hologram element When calculating the optics or when writing the hologram element, this preselected reference direction is defined. If the finished hologram element is then illuminated from the reference direction, then the light steering or the deposited functionality is activated and the hologram element diffracts the incident light in the desired manner by means of the diffraction structure inscribed in it.
- the volume hologram element may be formed as a film and has a nearly transparent appearance.
- the hologram element is formed as a surface hologram, preferably introduced as a surface structure into an injection mold and as a transmission hologram directly onto a transparent lens or as a reflection hologram on a non-transparent, reflective component.
- the same hologram element is assigned a plurality of light sources, which are located in different orientation to the hologram element.
- the hologram element thus has different diffraction information, so that different hologram illuminated areas can be generated depending on the control of the light sources.
- These hologram luminous areas can be superimposed as partial hologram luminous areas to a given light distribution.
- the partial hologram luminous surfaces can be arranged on a common plane or with a depth offset to one another on different planes.
- the hologram luminous surfaces can also be provided as full hologram luminous surfaces, each of which generates a separate predetermined light distribution.
- this space-saving multiple light distributions can be generated.
- a separate lighting unit for generating a further light distribution is arranged in the main emission direction of the illumination unit behind the hologram element. Since the hologram element is transparent, thus a light distribution by means of a conventional lighting unit (without hologram element) can be used to save space.
