Definitions
- the invention relates to a method for preserving a Maschinenele- element, in which after the manufacture and before installation and / or commissioning of the machine element, a preservative is applied to the surface thereof.
- EP 2 573 195 A1 In order to increase the robustness against white etching cracks in a roller bearing, it is proposed in EP 2 573 195 A1 to produce the surface of a rolling body or raceway from a modified material, wherein the rolling bearing is exposed to an elevated temperature for a certain period of time the bearing surface is in contact with a chemical additive.
- WO 2012/022601 A1 proposes a lubricant composition by means of which friction moments of rolling bearings can be reduced.
- the lubricant composition comprises an ionic liquid.
- a lubricant based on an ionic liquid is known from WO2007 / 010845 A1.
- the invention is therefore based on the object of specifying a method for preserving a machine element, by which the occurrence of "white etching cracks" is counteracted.
- the occurrence of white etching cracks can already be counteracted by using an ionic liquid as preservative for a machine element, such as a roller bearing.

- the inventive method has the advantage that only a small amount of ionic liquid is needed, this only serves to preserve the surface of the machine element prior to installation. After installation, the amount of ionic liquid applied to the surface mixes with the lubricant.
- a variant of the method according to the invention provides that the ionic liquid is used in pure form.
- the ionic liquid is used as a preservative.
- the ionic liquid is used as a preservative additive, mixed with a lubricant.
- the preservative additive is not a lubricant additive but a mixture of an ionic liquid and other components.
- the lubricant is the same lubricant used to lubricate the machine element when installed. In the case of a machine element designed as a roller bearing, the lubricant may be a lubricating oil.
- a particularly good applicability of the method according to the invention results when the ionic liquid oil or fat solubility of at least 0.3 mass%. Accordingly, a proportion of the ionic liquid in the order of at least 0.3 weight percent, based on the mass of the lubricant, can be used, whereby a Aussalzumble significantly below.

Description
Handbook of Green Chemistry. 6:203-219.
