Abstract
본 발명은 전지용 분리막을 제조하는 방법, 상기 방법에 의해 제조된 분리막 및 상기 분리막을 포함하는 이차 전지에 관한 것으로, 분리막의 기재 필름을 연신하는 공정 중 연신을 정지시키는 정지 공정을 수행함으로써 인장 강도가 증대된 분리막을 제조하는 방법에 관한 것이다.
Description
본 발명은 인장 강도가 높은 분리막을 제조하는 방법, 상기 방법으로 제조된 분리막 및 상기 분리막을 포함하는 이차 전지에 관한 것이다.
전기 화학 전지용 분리막(separator)은 전지 내에서 양극과 음극을 서로 격리시키면서 이온 전도도를 지속적으로 유지시켜 주어 전지의 충전과 방전이 가능하게 하는 중간막을 의미한다.
최근 전자 기기의 휴대성을 높이기 위한 전기 화학 전지의 경량화 및 소형화 추세와 더불어, 전기 자동차 등에의 사용을 위한 고출력 대용량 전지를 필요로 하는 경향이 있다. 이에, 전지용 분리막의 경우 그 두께를 얇게 하고 중량을 가볍게 하는 것이 요구되면서도 그와 동시에 고용량 전지의 생산을 위하여 열에 의한 형태 안정성이 우수할 것이 요구된다.
또한, 최근에는 분리막의 특성에 있어서 투과성이나 내열수축성 등 뿐만 아니라, 사이클 특성 등의 전지 수명에 영향을 미치는 특성이나 전해액 주입성 등의 전지 생산성과 관련된 특성도 중요시되고 있다.
그 중, 전지 생산에 있어서 상당 시간이 소요되고 전지의 생산성과 밀접한 관련이 있는 공정 중 하나가 권취 공정이며 현재 생산 속도 증대를 위해 고속 권취가 이루어지고 있다. 따라서 이러한 고속 권취 시 분리막이 끊어져 공정 불량을 야기하는 문제를 방지하기 위하여 분리막의 인장 강도를 향상시키려는 연구가 필요하다.
분리막 제조에 관한 선행기술로 일본 공개 특허 제2004-083866호는 초고분자량 폴리에틸렌 막을 2회에 걸쳐 온도를 달리하면서 동시 2축 연신하여 폴리올레핀 다공막을 제조하는 방법을 개시하고 있으나, 이는 막의 미세 구멍을 조절하여 공기 투과율 및 열수축률을 향상시키는 데에 주된 효과를 두는 기술로서, 전술한 분리막의 인장 강도 향상을 위한 기술, 특히 분리막의 생산성 향상에 기여하는 기술과는 거리가 있다.
본 발명은 분리막의 고속 권취를 용이하게 하고 권취 시 분리막이 끊어지는 등의 현상을 방지하기 위하여, 분리막의 연신 공정 중 정지 공정이 추가로 포함된 제조 방법에 따라 분리막을 제조하여, 분리막의 기계 방향 (MD 방향) 및 수직 방향(TD 방향)의 인장 강도를 증가시키고자 한다.
본 발명은 분리막의 인장 강도를 향상시키기 위하여 분리막 자체의 성분 조성을 달리하는 것이 아닌, 분리막의 제조 공정을 변화시켜 분리막의 인장 강도를 향상시키고자 한다.
또한, 본 발명은 분리막의 인장 강도는 높이면서도 열수축률은 낮게 유지하여 권취 공정성은 물론 열 안정성 또한 우수한 분리막을 제공하고자 한다.
본 발명의 분리막 제조 방법은 분리막의 인장 강도를 높이기 위하여 기재 필름의 연신 공정 중 연신을 정지시키는 정지 공정을 포함할 수 있다.
구체적으로 본 발명의 일 양태에 따르면, 폴리올레핀계 기재 필름을 기계 방향 및/또는 수직 방향으로 연신하고, 상기 연신 중 연신을 적어도 1회 이상 일시 정지시키는 것을 포함하는 분리막의 제조 방법을 제공한다.
본 발명의 또 다른 일 양태에 따르면, 폴리에틸렌이 함유된 기재 필름을 포함하고, 기계 방향과 수직 방향의 인장 강도가 모두 1,900 kgf/cm2 이상이며, 105℃에서 1 시간 방치 후 기계 방향의 열수축률 및 수직 방향의 열수축률이 모두 1% 이하인 분리막을 제공한다.
본 발명은 분리막의 기재 필름을 연신하는 공정 중 연신을 정지시키는 정지 공정을 도입함으로써 분리막의 인장 강도를 증대시키는 방법에 관한 것으로, 상기 정지 공정의 도입을 통하여 분리막의 고속 권취 시 분리막이 끊어지거나 변형되는 문제를 방지하는 효과를 나타내며 분리막의 찌름 강도 또한 향상되는 효과를 나타낸다.
또한, 본 발명은 분리막의 인장 강도를 높이면서도 열수축률은 낮게 유지하여 열적 안정성이 우수한 분리막 및 이차 전지를 제공하는 효과를 나타낸다.
이하, 본 발명에 대하여 보다 상세히 설명한다. 본원 명세서에 기재되지 않은 내용은 본 발명의 기술 분야 또는 유사 분야에서 숙련된 자이면 충분히 인식하고 유추할 수 있는 것이므로 그 설명을 생략한다.
본 발명의 일 양태는 전지용 분리막을 제조하는 방법에 관한 것으로, 분리막의 기재 필름을 연신하는 공정 중 연신을 정지시키는 정지 공정을 수행함으로써 인장 강도가 증대된 분리막을 제조하는 방법에 관한 것이다.
구체적으로 본 발명의 일 양태에 따르면, 폴리올레핀계 기재 필름을 기계 방향 및/또는 수직 방향으로 연신하고, 상기 연신 중 연신을 적어도 1회 이상 일시 정지시키는 것을 포함하는 분리막의 제조 방법을 제공한다. 상기 폴리올레핀계 기재 필름은 예를 들어 폴리에틸렌 함유 기재 필름일 수 있다.
전지용 분리막에 사용되는 폴리올레핀계 기재 필름은 필름에 미세 포어가 형성되어 있는 다공성 기재 필름을 사용할 수 있다. 폴리올레핀으로부터 다공성 기재 필름을 제조하는 방법은 크게 건식법과 습식법으로 분류할 수 있다.
건식법은 폴리올레핀 필름을 만든 후 저온에서 연신하여 폴리올레핀의 결정 부분인 라멜라 사이에 미세한 크랙을 유발시켜 미세 공극을 형성시키거나, 폴리올레핀계 수지에 무기 입자를 혼합하여 필름을 만든 후 역시 저온에서 연신하여 폴리올레핀 수지와 무기 입자간의 계면에 미세한 크랙을 유발시켜 미세 공극을 형성시키는 방법을 말한다.
습식법은 폴리올레핀계 수지 조성물이 용융되는 고온에서 폴리올레핀계 수지와 다일루언트(폴리올레핀과 유사한 분자 구조를 가지는 저분자량의 유기 물질)를 혼련하여 단일상을 만들고 냉각 과정에서 폴리올레핀과 다일루언트를 상분리시킨 후 다일루언트를 추출하여 내부에 공극을 형성시키는 방법을 말한다.
본 발명에 사용되는 폴리올레핀계 기재 필름에 미세 포어를 형성하는 방법은 특별히 제한되지 아니하며 당해 기술 분야에서 통상적으로 사용하는 방법에 따를 수 있으나, 예를 들어 습식법에 따를 수 있다. 습식법에 의할 경우 건식법에 비하여 필름의 두께를 얇고 균일하게 제어할 수 있으며 생성되는 기공의 크기를 균일하게 조절할 수 있고 기계적 강도가 보다 우수한 다공성 필름을 제조할 수 있다.
본 발명의 분리막을 제조함에 있어서 상기 습식법에 의하는 경우, 상기 폴리올레핀계 기재 필름의 연신 공정은 다일루언트의 추출 전 또는 후에 수행될 수 있으며, 예를 들어 다일루언트 추출 전에 수행될 수 있다. 다일루언트 추출 전에 연신 공정을 수행하는 경우, 다일루언트에 의한 폴리올레핀의 유연화에 의해 연신 작업이 보다 용이해지고 이에 따라 생산 안정성을 높여주는 이점이 있으며, 또한 연신으로 인해 필름의 두께가 얇아지는 결과, 연신 후 추출 과정에서 필름으로부터 다일루언트를 보다 용이하게 제거할 수 있는 이점이 있다.
본 발명의 상기 연신은 폴리올레핀계 기재 필름을 기계 방향 및/또는 수직 방향으로 연신하는 것을 포함할 수 있다. 본원에서 기계 방향(Machine Direction, MD) 및/또는 수직 방향(Transverse Direction, TD)으로 연신한다 함은, 기계 방향 및/또는 수직 방향 중 어느 한 쪽 방향으로만 연신하는 일축 연신, 기계 방향 및 수직 방향으로 동시에 연신하는 동시 이축 연신, 그리고 기계 방향(또는 수직 방향)으로 먼저 연신하고 차례로 수직 방향(또는 기계 방향)으로 연신하는 축차 이축 연신을 모두 포함할 수 있다.
본 발명의 상기 연신은 구체적으로 이축 연신법으로 수행될 수 있으며, 보다 구체적으로 축차 이축 연신법으로 수행될 수 있다. 축차 이축 연신법에 따르는 경우, 시트 물림 장치에 의한 파지 영역과 비파지 영역간의 연신비 차이를 줄일 수 있어 최종 연신된 제품의 품질 균일성을 확보할 있으며 시트 물림 장치로부터 시트의 이탈 현상을 방지하여 생산 안정성을 확보할 수 있는 이점이 있다.
본 발명에서 사용되는 폴리올레핀계 기재 필름은 폴리올레핀계 수지 조성물을 압출하여 형성된 필름으로서 상기 폴리올레핀계 수지 조성물은 1 종 이상의 폴리올레핀계 수지만으로 이루어지거나, 1 종 이상의 폴리올리핀계 수지, 폴리올레핀계를 제외한 다른 수지 및/또는 무기물을 포함하는 혼합 조성물일 수 있다.
본 발명의 폴리올레핀계 기재 필름에 사용 가능한 상기 폴리올레핀계 수지의 비제한적인 예로는 폴리에틸렌, 폴리프로필렌 또는 폴리-4-메틸-1-펜텐 등을 들 수 있다. 이들은 단독으로 사용되거나 2 종 이상이 혼합되어 사용될 수 있다. 즉, 상기 폴리올레핀계 수지를 단독으로 사용하거나 이들의 공중합체 또는 혼합물 등을 사용할 수 있다.
상기 폴리올레핀계 기재 필름은 예를 들어 폴리에틸렌을 함유할 수 있으며, 상기 폴리에틸렌의 구체예로 중량 평균 분자량이 200,000 g/mol 이상인 폴리에틸렌을 들 수 있으며, 보다 구체적으로 중량 평균 분자량이 500,000 g/mol 이상인 고밀도 폴리에틸렌 (High-density polyethylene, HDPE)을 포함할 수 있다. 구체적으로 500,000 g/mol 내지 1,000,000 g/mol 인 고밀도 폴리에틸렌을 사용할 수 있다. 상기 고밀도 폴리에틸렌의 밀도는 0.9 g/cc 내지 1.0 g/cc인 것을 사용할 수 있으며, 이러한 고밀도 폴리에틸렌을 사용하는 경우 분리막의 강도를 향상시킬 수 있다.
본 발명의 폴리올레핀계 기재 필름에 사용 가능한 상기 폴리올레핀계를 제외한 다른 수지의 비제한적인 예로는 폴리아마이드수지, 폴리부틸렌테레프탈레이트(PBT), 폴리에틸렌테레프탈레이트(PET), 폴리클로로트리플루오로에틸렌(PCTFE), 폴리옥시메틸렌(POM), 폴리비닐플루오라이드(PVF), 폴리비닐리덴플루오라이드(PVdF), 폴리카보네이트, 폴리아릴레이트, 폴리설폰, 폴리에테르이미드 등을 들 수 있다. 이들은 단독으로 사용되거나 2 종 이상 혼합하여 사용될 수 있다.
본 발명의 폴리올레핀계 기재 필름에 사용 가능한 상기 무기물의 비제한적인 예로는 탄산칼슘, 실리카, 황산바륨 또는 탈크 등을 들 수 있으며 이들은 단독으로 사용되거나 2 종 이상을 혼합하여 사용될 수 있다.
본 발명의 분리막 제조에 있어서 습식법을 따르는 경우에는 전술한 바와 같이 폴리올레핀계 수지 및 다일루언트를 함께 압출하여 시트 형태의 폴리올레핀계 기재 필름을 형성할 수 있다.
본 발명에서 사용 가능한 상기 다일루언트의 종류는 특별히 제한되지 아니하며 압출 온도에서 상기 폴리올레핀계 수지(또는 폴리올레핀계 수지 및 다른 종류의 수지의 혼합물)와 단일상을 이루는 임의의 유기 화합물일 수 있다.
본 발명에서 사용 가능한 상기 다일루언트의 비제한적인 예로는 노난(nonan), 데칸(decane), 데칼린(decalin), 액체 파라핀(또는 파라핀 오일), 파라핀 왁스 등의 지방족 또는 시클릭 탄화수소; 디부틸 프탈레이트(dibutyl phthalate), 디옥틸 프탈레이트(dioctyl phthalate) 등의 프탈산 에스테르; 팔미트산, 스테아린산, 올레산, 리놀레산, 리놀렌산 등의 탄소수 10 내지 20 개의 지방산류; 팔미트산 알코올, 스테아린산 알코올, 올레산 알코올 등의 탄소수 10 내지 20 개의 지방산 알코올류 등을 들 수 있다. 이들은 단독으로 사용되거나 2 종 이상 혼합하여 사용될 수 있다.
상기 다일루언트 중 예를 들어 액체 파라핀을 사용할 수 있다. 액체 파라핀은 인체에 무해하며 끓는 점이 높고 휘발성 성분이 적어 습식법에서 다일루언트로 사용되기에 알맞은 특성을 갖는다.
본 발명의 상기 일시 정지는 상기 폴리올레핀계 기재 필름의 연신 진행 중, 연신을 멈추거나 연신의 속도를 감소시키는 공정을 의미하며, 상기 일시 정지는 분리막의 제조 공정에 따라 의미하는 바가 달라질 수 있다.
분리막의 제조 공정은 크게 연속 공정과 비연속 공정으로 분류할 수 있다. 연속 공정이란 롤을 이용하여 기계 방향으로 필름 시트를 연속적으로 연신하고 텐터 타입의 시트 물림 장치를 이용하여 수직 방향으로 연신을 실시하는 공정을 말하며, 비연속 공정이란 일정 크기로 절단된 필름 시트를 기계 방향, 수직 방향으로 각각 텐터로 파지한 후 각 방향으로 연신하는 공정을 의미한다.

폴리올레핀계 기재 필름을 연신하는 공정에 있어서, 연신하는 방향으로 고분자 체인이 늘어나면서 필름의 배율이 커질수록 필름에 더 강한 힘이 가해지게 되며 이 힘은 곧 분리막의 인장 강도에 큰 영향을 미치게 된다. 이러한 연신 공정 중 일시적으로 연신을 멈추거나 연신 속도를 늦추게 되면 고분자 체인이 느슨해지면서 안정화되어 필름에 작용하는 힘이 감소하게 된다. 이와 같이 필름이 안정화되어 가는 도중 다시 연신을 재개하게 되면 텐터에 걸리는 힘이 순간적으로 급격히 증가하게 되어 필름에 가해지는 힘 또한 강해지게 된다. 본 발명은 이를 이용하여 연신 및 정지 공정을 조절함으로써 인장 강도가 우수한 분리막을 제조하고자 한다.
상기 일시 정지는 상기 기재 필름의 연신 시작 후, 상기 기재 필름이 최종 연신 배율의 40% 이상으로 연신된 후에 수행될 수 있다. 예를 들어, 최종 연신 배율의 50% 이상으로 연신된 후에 수행될 수 있다. 예를 들어, 최종 연신 배율의 80% 이상으로 연신된 후에 수행될 수 있다. 상기 범위 내에서 폴리올레핀계 기재 필름의 인장 강도를 충분히 높일 수 있으며, 일시 정지 후 연신 재개 단계를 거쳐 최종 제조되는 기재 필름의 연신율을 적절히 조절할 수 있다.
본 발명에 일 양태에 따르면, 기계 방향의 연신 및/또는 수직 방향의 연신은, 수회의 기계 방향의 연신 및 수직 방향의 연신을 포함하고, 상기 일시 정지는 상기 수회의 기계 방향의 연신 및 수직 방향의 연신 공정 중 적어도 1회 이상 실시될 수 있다. 예를 들어, 기계 방향의 연신 및 수직 방향의 연신을 1회 내지 5회, 또는 1회 내지 4회, 또는 1회 내지 3회 실시할 수 있다. 예를 들어 기계 방향의 연신 및 수직 방향의 연신을 3회 실시하는 경우, 일시 정지는 제1 기계 방향의 연신 및 제1 수직 방향의 연신과 제2 기계 방향의 연신 및 제2 수직 방향의 연신 사이에; 및/또는 제2 기계 방향의 연신 및 제2 수직 방향의 연신과 제3 기계 방향의 연신 및 제3 수직 방향의 연신 사이에 실시할 수 있다.
상기 일시 정지는 예를 들어 1회의 일시 정지당 3 초 내지 60초, 보다 구체적으로 3초 내지 30초 동안 수행될 수 있다. 상기 범위 내에서 연신 공정을 충분히 정지시킬 수 있으며 이에 필름에 가해지는 힘이 감소되어 추후 연신 재개 시 필름에 가해지는 힘의 증가 효과를 극대화할 수 있는 이점이 있다.
본 발명의 일 양태에 따르면, 상기 기재 필름이 기계 방향 및 수직 방향으로 5×5 배 미만으로 연신된 경우에는 상기 일시 정지를 10초 미만으로 수행할 수 있으며, 본 발명의 또 다른 양태에 따르면 상기 기재 필름이 기계 방향 및 수직 방향으로 5×5 배 이상 연신된 경우, 상기 일시 정지를 10초 이상으로 수행할 수 있다.
본 발명의 상기 분리막의 제조 방법이 습식법에 따를 경우, 본 발명은 폴리올레핀계 필름 내 다일루언트를 추출하는 공정을 추가로 포함할 수 있다.
다일루언트 추출 공정에서 사용 가능한 유기 용매는 특별히 제한되지 아니하며 폴레올레핀 수지의 압출에 사용된 다일루언트를 추출해낼 수 있는 용제라면 어느 것이든 사용 가능하다. 상기 유기 용매의 예로 추출 효율이 높고 건조가 용이한 메틸에틸케톤, 메틸렌 클로라이드, 헥산 등을 사용할 수 있다.
본 발명의 상기 분리막 제조 방법은 상기 단계들에 추가적으로 필름의 열고정 단계를 포함할 수 있다. 상기 열고정 단계는 구체적으로, 수직방향으로 연신 배율 1배 내지 2배로 연신하고 연신된 수직방향 길이에 대해 80% 내지 100%로 이완시키는 것을 포함한다. 상기 열고정은 100 내지 150℃ 에서 수행될 수 있으며, 예를 들어 120 내지 140℃ 에서 약 5초 내지 120초간 수행될 수 있다. 상기 범위에서 필름의 잔류 응력 제거에 효과적이며, 물성을 향상시킬 수 있다. 즉, 열고정 수행 시의 온도와 고정 비율 등에 따라 필름의 열수축률, 투과도 등을 조절할 수 있다.
본원에 기술된 제조 방법에 의해 제조된 분리막은 하기 특성 중 하나 이상을 만족할 수 있다:
a) 기계 방향과 수직 방향의 인장 강도가 모두 1,900 kgf/cm2 이상;
b) 상기 기계 방향의 인장 강도가 상기 수직 방향의 인장 강도보다 큼;
c) 105℃에서 1 시간 방치 후 기계 방향의 열수축률 및 수직 방향의 열수축률이 모두 1% 이하; 및
d) 두께당 찌름 강도가 40 gf/㎛ 이상.
본 발명의 또 다른 일 양태에 따르면, 폴리에틸렌이 함유된 기재 필름을 포함하고, 기계 방향과 수직 방향의 인장 강도가 모두 1,900 kgf/cm2 이상이며, 상기 기계 방향의 인장 강도가 상기 수직 방향의 인장 강도보다 크고, 105℃에서 1 시간 방치 후 기계 방향의 열수축률 및 수직 방향의 열수축률이 모두 1% 이하인 분리막을 제공한다. 또한, 기계 방향의 인장 강도는 2,000 kgf/cm2 이상일 수 있다. 보다 구체적으로 기계 방향의 인장 강도는 2,100 kgf/cm2 이상이고, 수직 방향의 인장 강도는 1,910 kgf/cm2 이상일 수 있다. 상기 기계 방향의 인장 강도는 상기 수직 방향의 인장 강도에 비해 100 kgf/cm2
이상 더 클 수 있으며, 또는 200 kgf/cm2 이상 더 클 수 있다.
상기 분리막의 인장 강도를 측정하는 방법은 특별히 제한되지 아니하며, 본 발명의 기술 분야에서 통상적으로 사용하는 방법을 사용할 수 있다. 상기 분리막의 인장 강도를 측정하는 방법의 비제한적인 예는 다음과 같다: 제조된 분리막을 가로 (MD) 10 mm × 세로 (TD) 50 mm의 직사각형 형태로 서로 다른 10 개의 지점에서 재단한 10 개의 시편을 제작한 다음, 상기 각 시편을 UTM (인장시험기)에 장착하여 측정 길이가 20 mm가 되도록 물린 후 상기 시편을 당겨 MD 방향 및 TD 방향의 평균 인장 강도를 측정하는 방식으로 수행될 수 있다.
상기 분리막의 열수축률을 측정하는 방법은 특별히 제한되지 아니하며, 본 발명의 기술 분야에서 통상적으로 사용하는 방법을 사용할 수 있다. 상기 분리막의 열수축률을 측정하는 방법의 비제한적인 예는 다음과 같다: 제조된 분리막을 가로 (MD) 50 mm × 세로 (TD) 50 mm로 서로 다른 10 개의 지점에서 재단한 10 개의 시편을 제작한 다음, 상기 각 시편을 105℃의 오븐에서 1 시간 동안 방치한 후 상기 각 시편의 MD 방향 및 TD 방향의 수축 정도를 측정하여 평균 열수축률을 계산하는 방식으로 수행될 수 있다.
본 발명의 또 다른 일 양태에 따르면, 분리막의 두께당 찌름 강도가 40 gf/㎛ 이상인 분리막을 제공한다.
상기 분리막의 찌름 강도를 측정하는 방법은 특별히 제한되지 아니하며, 본 발명의 기술 분야에서 통상적으로 사용하는 방법을 사용할 수 있다. 상기 분리막의 찌름 강도를 측정하는 방법의 비제한적인 예는 다음과 같다: 제조된 분리막을 가로 (MD) 50 mm × 세로 (TD) 50 mm로 서로 다른 10 개의 지점에서 재단한 10 개의 시편을 제작한 다음, GATO 테크 G5 장비를 이용하여 10 cm 구멍 위에 시편을 올려 놓은 후 1 mm 탐침으로 누르면서 뚫어지는 힘을 측정하고, 상기 각 시편의 찌름 강도를 각각 세 차례씩 측정한 다음 그 평균값을 계산하는 방식으로 측정할 수 있다.
본 발명의 또 다른 일 양태에 따르면, 상기의 방법으로 제조된 폴리올레핀계 다공성 분리막 및 양극, 음극을 포함하며 전해질로 채워진 전기 화학 전지를 제공한다.
상기 전기 화학 전지의 종류는 특별히 제한되지 아니하며, 본 발명의 기술 분야에서 알려진 종류의 전지일 수 있다.
본 발명의 상기 전기 화학 전지는 예를 들어 리튬 금속 이차 전지, 리튬 이온 이차 전지, 리튬 폴리머 이차 전지 또는 리튬 이온 폴리머 이차 전지 등과 같은 리튬 이차 전지일 수 있다.
본 발명의 전기 화학 전지를 제조하는 방법은 특별히 제한되지 아니하며, 본 발명의 기술 분야에서 통상적으로 사용하는 방법을 사용할 수 있다.
상기 전기 화학 전지를 제조하는 방법의 비제한적인 예는 다음과 같다: 본 발명의 폴리올레핀계 분리막을, 전지의 양극과 음극 사이에 위치시킨 후, 이에 전해액을 채우는 방식으로 전지를 제조할 수 있다.
본 발명의 전기 화학 전지를 구성하는 전극은, 본 발명의 기술 분야에서 통상적으로 사용하는 방법에 의해 전극 활물질을 전극 전류집전체에 결착된 형태로 제조할 수 있다.
본 발명에서 사용되는 상기 전극 활물질 중 양극 활물질은 특별히 제한되지 아니하며, 본 발명의 기술 분야에서 통상적으로 사용하는 양극 활물질을 사용할 수 있다.
상기 양극 활물질의 비제한적인 예로는, 리튬 망간 산화물, 리튬 코발트 산화물, 리튬 니켈 산화물, 리튬 철 산화물 또는 이들을 조합한 리튬 복합 산화물 등을 들 수 있다.
본 발명에서 사용되는 상기 전극 활물질 중 음극 활물질은 특별히 제한되지 아니하며, 본 발명의 기술 분야에서 통상적으로 사용하는 음극 활물질을 사용할 수 있다.
상기 음극 활물질의 비제한적인 예로는, 리튬 금속 또는 리튬 합금, 탄소, 석유 코크(petroleum coke), 활성화 탄소(activated carbon), 그라파이트(graphite) 또는 기타 탄소류 등과 같은 리튬 흡착 물질 등을 들 수 있다.
본 발명에서 사용되는 상기 전극 전류집전체는 특별히 제한되지 아니하며, 본 발명의 기술 분야에서 통상적으로 사용하는 전극 전류집전체를 사용할 수 있다.
상기 전극 전류집전체 중 양극 전류집전체 소재의 비제한적인 예로는, 알루미늄, 니켈 또는 이들의 조합에 의하여 제조되는 호일 등을 들 수 있다.
상기 전극 전류집전체 중 음극 전류집전체 소재의 비제한적인 예로는, 구리, 금, 니켈, 구리 합금 또는 이들의 조합에 의하여 제조되는 호일 등을 들 수 있다.
본 발명에서 사용되는 전해액은 특별히 제한되지 아니하며, 본 발명의 기술 분야에서 통상적으로 사용하는 전기 화학 전지용 전해액을 사용할 수 있다.
상기 전해액은 A+ B-와 같은 구조의 염이, 유기 용매에 용해 또는 해리된 것일 수 있다.
상기 A+의 비제한적인 예로는, Li+, Na+ 또는 K+와 같은 알칼리 금속 양이온, 또는 이들의 조합으로 이루어진 양이온을 들 수 있다.
상기 B-의 비제한적인 예로는, PF6
-, BF4
-, Cl-, Br-, I-, ClO4
-, AsF6
-, CH3CO2
-, CF3SO3
-, N(CF3SO2)2
- 또는 C(CF2SO2)3
-와 같은 음이온, 또는 이들의 조합으로 이루어진 음이온을 들 수 있다.
상기 유기 용매의 비제한적인 예로는, 프로필렌 카보네이트(PC), 에틸렌 카보네이트(EC), 디에틸카보네이트(DEC), 디메틸카보네이트(DMC), 디프로필카보네이트(DPC), 디메틸설폭사이드, 아세토니트릴, 디메톡시에탄, 디에톡시에탄, 테트라히드로퓨란, N-메틸-2-피롤리돈(NMP), 에틸메틸카보네이트(EMC) 또는 감마 부티롤락톤(γ-Butyrolactone) 등을 들 수 있다. 이들은 단독 또는 2 종 이상을 혼합하여 사용할 수 있다.
이하, 실시예, 비교예 및 실험예를 기술함으로써 본 발명을 보다 상세히 설명한다. 다만, 하기의 실시예, 비교예 및 실험예는 본 발명의 일 예시에 불과하며, 본 발명의 내용이 이에 한정되는 것으로 해석되어서는 아니된다.
실시예 1
중량 평균 분자량이 600,000 g/mol인 고밀도 폴리에틸렌(High-density polyethylene, HDPE; Mitsui chemical 사 제품) (밀도: 0.95 g/cc) 30 중량부를 이축 압출기에 공급한 다음, 가소제로 액체 파라핀 (극동 유화) 70 중량부를 상기 이축 압출기에 주입하여 압출하였다.
상기 압출 후 다이(Die)를 통해 얻어진 겔상을 냉각롤을 이용하여 시트로 제작하고, 상기 제작된 시트를 가로 90 mm × 세로 90 mm로 재단하였다. 상기 시트로부터 액체 파라핀을 추출하기 전에 상기 시트를 배치 연신기에서 축차 이축 연신법에 따라 연신하되, 3×3 배율로 1차 연신 후 5초 동안 1차 정지하고, 그 다음 6×6 배율로 2차 연신을 수행하였다.
상기 연신된 폴리에틸렌 기재 필름을 메틸렌 클로라이드(삼성 정밀 화학)에 세척하여 액체 파라핀을 추출한 후 건조한 다음, 125 내지 130℃에서 30초간 열고정을 실시하여 분리막을 제조하였다.
실시예 2
상기 실시예 1에 있어서, 상기 고밀도 폴리에틸렌 대신 중량 평균 분자량 300,000 g/mol의 폴리에틸렌을 사용하고, 1차 정지를 20초 동안 수행하는 것을 제외하고는, 상기 실시예 1과 동일한 방법으로 분리막을 제조하였다.
실시예 3
상기 실시예 1에 있어서, 상기 고밀도 폴리에틸렌 대신 폴리에틸렌(300,000 g/mol)을 사용하고, 5×5 배율로 1차 연신 후 5초 동안 1차 정지하는 것을 제외하고는, 상기 실시예 1과 동일한 방법으로 분리막을 제조하였다.
실시예 4
상기 실시예 1에 있어서, 상기 고밀도 폴리에틸렌 대신 폴리에틸렌(300,000 g/mol)을 사용하고, 5×5 배율로 1차 연신 후 20초 동안 1차 정지하는 것을 제외하고는, 상기 실시예 1과 동일한 방법으로 분리막을 제조하였다.
실시예 5
상기 실시예 1에 있어서, 상기 고밀도 폴리에틸렌 대신 폴리에틸렌(300,000 g/mol)을 사용하고, 5×5 배율로 2차 연신 후 5초 동안 2차 정지한 다음, 6×6 배율로 3차 연신하는 것을 제외하고는, 상기 실시예 1과 동일한 방법으로 분리막을 제조하였다.
실시예 6
상기 실시예 1에 있어서, 상기 고밀도 폴리에틸렌 대신 폴리에틸렌(300,000 g/mol)을 사용하고, 5×5 배율로 2차 연신 후 20초 동안 2차 정지한 다음, 6×6 배율로 3차 연신하는 것을 제외하고는, 상기 실시예 1과 동일한 방법으로 분리막을 제조하였다.
비교예 1
상기 실시예 1에 있어서, 상기 고밀도 폴리에틸렌 대신 폴리에틸렌(300,000 g/mol)을 사용하고, 6×6 배율로 1차 연신을 수행하며, 연신을 정지함이 없이 연속적으로 연신을 수행하는 것을 제외하고는, 상기 실시예 1과 동일한 방법으로 분리막을 제조하였다.
실험예 1
인장 강도 측정
상기 실시예 1 내지 6 및 비교예 1에서 제조된 분리막의 인장 강도를 측정하기 위하여 다음과 같은 실험을 수행하였다.
상기 실시예 및 비교예들에서 제조된 분리막 각각을 가로 (MD) 10 mm × 세로 (TD) 50 mm의 직사각형 형태로 서로 다른 10 개의 지점에서 재단한 10 개의 시편을 제작한 다음, 상기 각 시편을 UTM (인장시험기)에 장착하여 측정 길이가 20 mm가 되도록 물린 후 상기 시편을 당겨 MD 방향 및 TD 방향의 평균 인장 강도를 측정하였다.
실험예 2
찌름 강도 측정
상기 실시예 1 내지 6 및 비교예 1에서 제조된 분리막의 찌름 강도를 측정하기 위하여 다음과 같은 실험을 수행하였다.
상기 실시예 및 비교예들에서 제조된 분리막 각각을 가로 (MD) 50 mm × 세로 (TD) 50 mm로 서로 다른 10 개의 지점에서 재단한 10 개의 시편을 제작한 다음, GATO 테크 G5 장비를 이용하여 10 cm 구멍 위에 시편을 올려 놓은 후 1 mm 탐침으로 누르면서 뚫어지는 힘을 측정하였다. 상기 각 시편의 찌름 강도를 각각 세 차례씩 측정한 다음 평균값을 계산하였다.
실험예 3
열수축률 측정
상기 실시예 1 내지 6 및 비교예 1에서 제조된 분리막의 열수축률을 측정하기 위하여 다음과 같은 실험을 수행하였다.
상기 실시예 및 비교예들에서 제조된 분리막 각각을 가로 (MD) 50 mm × 세로 (TD) 50 mm로 서로 다른 10 개의 지점에서 재단한 10 개의 시편을 제작하였다. 상기 각 시편을 105℃의 오븐에서 1 시간 동안 방치한 다음, 각 시편의 MD 방향 및 TD 방향의 수축 정도를 측정하여 평균 열수축률을 계산하였다.
하기 표 1에서, 상기 실시예 1 내지 6 및 비교예 1에 따른 분리막의 연신 및 정지 공정을 정리하고, 상기 실험예 1 내지 3에 따른 측정 결과를 나타낸다.

Claims (16)
- 폴리올레핀계 기재 필름을 포함하고,기계 방향과 수직 방향의 인장 강도가 모두 1,900 kgf/cm2 이상이고, 105℃에서 1 시간 방치 후 분리막의 기계 방향의 열수축률 및 수직 방향의 열수축률이 각각 1% 이하인 분리막.
- 제1항에 있어서, 상기 기계 방향의 인장 강도가 상기 수직 방향의 인장 강도보다 큰, 분리막.
- 제1항에 있어서, 상기 폴리올레핀계 기재 필름이 폴리에틸렌 함유 기재 필름인 분리막.
- 제3항에 있어서, 상기 폴리에틸렌의 중량 평균 분자량이 500,000 g/mol 이상인 분리막.
- 제4항에 있어서, 상기 폴리에틸렌의 밀도가 0.9 g/cc 내지 1.0 g/cc인 분리막.
- 제1항 내지 제5항 중 어느 하나의 항에 있어서, 상기 분리막의 두께당 찌름 강도가 40 gf/㎛ 이상인 분리막.
- 제1항 내지 제5항 중 어느 하나의 항에 있어서, 상기 기계 방향의 인장 강도가 2,000 kgf/cm2 이상인 분리막.
- 폴리올레핀계 기재 필름을 기계 방향 및/또는 수직 방향으로 연신하는 것을 포함하며상기 기계 방향의 연신 및/또는 상기 수직 방향의 연신 과정 중 연신을 적어도 1회 이상 일시 정지시키는 것을 포함하는 분리막의 제조 방법.
- 제8항에 있어서, 상기 일시 정지는 상기 기재 필름이 최종 연신 배율의 40% 이상으로 연신된 후에 수행되는 분리막의 제조 방법.
- 제9항에 있어서, 상기 일시 정지는 상기 기재 필름이 최종 연신 배율의 50% 이상으로 연신된 후에 수행되는 분리막의 제조 방법.
- 제8항에 있어서, 상기 기계 방향의 연신 및/또는 상기 수직 방향의 연신이, 수회의 기계 방향의 연신 및 수직 방향의 연신을 포함하고, 상기 일시 정지는 상기 수회의 기계 방향의 연신 및 수직 방향의 연신 공정 중 적어도 1회 이상 실시되는 분리막의 제조 방법.
- 제11항에 있어서, 상기 일시 정지가 상기 수회의 기계 방향의 연신 및 수직 방향의 연신 공정 중 1회 내지 5회 실시되는 분리막의 제조 방법.
- 제8항 내지 제11항 중 어느 하나의 항에 있어서, 상기 일시 정지는 3 내지 60초 동안 연신을 정지시키는 것을 포함하는 분리막의 제조 방법.
- 제8항에 있어서, 상기 기재 필름을의 기계 방향 및 수직 방향으로 5×5 배 미만으로 연신시킨 경우, 상기 일시 정지를 10초 미만으로 수행하는 분리막의 제조 방법.
- 제8항에 있어서, 상기 기재 필름을 기계 방향 및 수직 방향으로 5×5 배 이상으로 연신시킨 경우, 상기 일시 정지를 10초 이상으로 수행하는 분리막의 제조 방법.
- 양극, 음극 및 상기 양극과 음극 사이에 위치한 제1항 내지 제5항 중 어느 하나의 항에 따른 분리막을 포함하는 이차 전지.
