Definitions
- the present invention relates to a display device including an apparatus for detecting the chromaticity and luminance of an image displayed on a display unit of the display device by an external sensor and calibrating the chromaticity and luminance, and a control method for the display device.
- a simple color sensor (hereinafter referred to as a simple sensor) is exclusively used as a sensor for detecting the chromaticity and luminance of an image displayed on the display unit.
- the simple sensor is an important part that determines the performance of the display device. For this reason, it is desirable to warn the user that the colorimetric error in the measured chromaticity and luminance has become more than a certain level due to individual differences in the simple sensor, aging deterioration, or the like, or a change state.
- Patent Document 1 discloses a technique for correcting chromaticity of a display device based on an output value of a sensor.
- the problem to be solved is that the reliability of both the display device and the simple sensor is low. If the simple sensor outputs an output value that is significantly different from the preset reference value, is this caused by the display error of the display device? Alternatively, the user of the display device cannot determine whether the colorimetric error is caused by the simple sensor.
- the present invention is a display device having a display unit for displaying an image, and a reference value storage for storing a reference value of a color gamut, which is a result of measuring a primary color displayed on the display unit by a reference color sensor. And a measurement value of a color gamut that is a result of measuring a primary color displayed on the display unit by a color sensor used for calibration of the display device by a user of the display device, and the reference value storage unit A difference calculation unit that calculates a difference from a reference value of the color gamut, and when the difference calculated by the difference calculation unit is greater than or equal to a preset allowable value at the time of calibration by the user, And an output unit that outputs a warning indicating an abnormality of the color sensor.
- the reference color sensor and the color sensor used for calibration of the display device measure the color of the display unit of the display device, and are defined by the International Lighting Commission in CIE1931.
- Z is a value obtained by converting the ratio of X, Y, and Z into a ratio.
- the present invention also provides a method for controlling a display device, in which a user of a display device warns the user of an abnormality of a color sensor used for calibration of the display device, and the display unit of the display device is operated by a reference color sensor.
- a first step of measuring a primary color displayed on the display, and storing a reference value of a color gamut, which is a measurement result, in a reference value storage unit; and a color sensor used by the user of the display device to calibrate the display device The second step of calculating the difference between the measurement value of the color gamut that is the result of measuring the primary color displayed on the display unit and the reference value of the color gamut stored in the reference value storage unit, And a third step of outputting a warning indicating an abnormality of the color sensor to the user when the difference is equal to or larger than a preset allowable value during calibration by the user.
- the simple sensor used for color calibration of the display device outputs an output value that is significantly different from a preset reference value, whether or not it is a colorimetric error of the simple sensor is displayed.
- the user of the apparatus can be warned, and the user of the display apparatus has an advantage that the availability of using the simple sensor can be determined.

- the sensor 10 includes a reference sensor 10a (a reference sensor) when the user using the display device 100 is a manufacturer and a simple sensor 10b (a simple sensor) when the user is a purchaser of the display device 100. ).
- the reference sensor 10a and the simple sensor 10b are, for example, three colors of red (center wavelength is about 620 nm (nanometer)), blue (center wavelength is about 555 nm), and green (center wavelength is about 450 nm).
- a filter X, Y, and Z filter
- three photodiodes a light receiving portion of a reference sensor 10a and a simple sensor 10b provided for each single color
- an AD Analog Digital
- the control unit 30 includes an operation unit 21, a communication unit 22, a first storage unit 23, a second storage unit 24, an MPU 32, a video signal controller 33, an OSD function unit 35, and a backlight controller 34.
- the operation unit 21 receives a command from the user and outputs a signal corresponding to the command to an MPU 32 (MPU: Micro Processor Unit).
- the communication unit 22 outputs a control signal indicating a command for starting color measurement from the MPU 32 to the reference sensor 10a or the simple sensor 10b.
- the reference sensor 10 a or the simple sensor 10 b measures the color of the display unit of the liquid crystal display unit 40 and outputs X, Y, and Z values, which are color measurement results, to the communication unit 22.
- the communication unit 22 outputs the X, Y, and Z values to the MPU 32.
- the reference sensor 10a or the simple sensor 10b and the communication unit 22 are connected with, for example, a USB cable, and control signals and X, Y, and Z values are exchanged.
- the MPU 32 has a function of controlling each part of the display device 100, and receives a command to start display calibration processing from the user (manufacturer of the display device 100, purchaser of the display device 100) input from the operation unit 21. Correspondingly, it has a function of controlling transmission and reception of control signals and X, Y, and Z values between the communication unit 22 and the reference sensor 10a or the simple sensor 10b. In addition, the MPU 32 represents the XYZ values output by the reference sensor 10a in response to a command for starting display calibration processing from the user (manufacturer of the display device 100), for example, in the xyY color system defined by CIE1931. Converted into x, y and z values to be stored in the first storage unit.
- the MPU 32 converts the XYZ values output from the simple sensor 10b in response to a command for starting display calibration processing from the user (the purchaser of the display device 100) into x, y, and z values. Then, the converted x, y, and z are compared with the x, y, and z values stored in the first storage unit 23, respectively, and it is determined whether or not the simple sensor 10b has deteriorated.
- the first storage unit 23 stores the x, y, and z values converted by the MPU 32 in association with R, G, and B that are the three primary colors.
- the second storage unit 24 stores a reference value (a preset allowable value) used when the MPU 32 performs the comparison determination.
- the video signal controller 33 is controlled by the MPU 32 and outputs a video signal input from the outside of the display device 100 to the OSD function unit 35.
- Various display devices such as CRT (Cathode Ray Tube), Liquid Crystal Display (LCD), and Plasma Display Panel (PDP) have specific gamma characteristics and chromaticity characteristics depending on the characteristics of each display device.
- the gamma characteristic of the display device indicates the relationship between the input signal level and the output luminance of the display device.
- the chromaticity characteristics refer to chromaticities of three or more primary colors (for example, RGB + white) of each display device. Since the display device normally uses three primary colors of RGB, the chromaticity characteristic generally indicates the chromaticity of RGB.
- each of the CRT, LCD, and PDP systems has greatly different gamma characteristics and different chromaticity characteristics.
- the video signal controller 33 changes the color of the input video signal using a lookup table LUT that holds the gamma characteristics and chromaticity characteristics of the display device. (Gamma correction and chromaticity correction are performed), and the changed video signal is output to the OSD function unit 35.
- the video signal controller 33 measures the chromaticity and luminance when measuring the chromaticity and luminance using the reference sensor 10a when the display device 100 is shipped from the factory, or when the user of the display device 100 uses the simple sensor 10b. At this time, it is controlled by the MPU 32 and outputs a test video signal (the maximum gradation of each of the R, G, and B colors which are the three primary colors of the display device 100) to the OSD function unit 35.
- the backlight controller 34 changes a control signal for driving the backlight drive unit 41 in accordance with an instruction from the MPU 32.
- the backlight controller 34 uses, for example, a cold cathode fluorescent lamp as a light source that constitutes the backlight of the liquid crystal display unit 40 and drives the current with a current dimming inverter. Change the value.
- the light source is an LED
- the pulse width of the voltage supplied to the LED drive circuit is changed or the peak value of the voltage is changed.
- the OSD function unit 35 (output unit) outputs the corrected video signal output from the video signal controller 33 to the LCD driving unit 42 and drives the liquid crystal panel by the LCD driving unit 42 to display various information. Also, the OSD function unit 35 determines that the MPU 32 uses the reference sensor 10a at the time of shipment of the display device 100 based on the determination result of the MPU 32, and the user of the display device 100 uses the simple sensor 10b. When it is determined that the measurement results of chromaticity performed using do not match, an alarm is output. As an output method of this alarm, for example, a warning is output to any position on the screen of the liquid crystal display unit 40, which will be described later, or a warning is output to the OSD displayed superimposed on the video signal. .
- the liquid crystal display unit 40 includes a backlight driving unit 41 and an LCD driving unit 42, and displays an image on a liquid crystal panel (not shown) in accordance with instructions from these driving units.
- the backlight drive unit 41 turns on the backlight so that the brightness is in accordance with the control signal supplied from the backlight controller 34.
- the LCD driving unit 42 displays the image by driving the liquid crystal panel of the liquid crystal display unit 40 according to the video signal output from the OSD function unit 35.
- a color filter using three primary color filters including a red (R) filter, a blue (B) filter, and a green (G) filter is provided.
- R, G, and B filters including a red (R) filter, a blue (B) filter, and a green (G) filter.
- R, G, and B filters including a red (R) filter, a blue (B) filter, and a green (G) filter.
- G green
- a different material is generally used for each of the primary colors R, G, and B.
- a white LED when a white LED is used as the light source, the white LED emits white light by applying the blue light emitted from the blue LED to the yellow phosphor (in charge of red and blue).
- the LCD drive unit 42 adjusts the transmittance of the color filter provided in the liquid crystal display panel according to the corrected video signal input from the OSD function unit 35.
- the color filter using the three primary color filters whose transmittance is adjusted transmits the white light emitted from the light source driven by the backlight drive unit 41, and the image on which the luminance and chromaticity are corrected is displayed on the liquid crystal panel. Is displayed.
- the MPU 32 detects that a colorimetric error has occurred due to deterioration of the simple sensor 10b based on the x, y, and z values in the display device 100 configured as described above.
- the optical stability of the “sensor light receiving part” in the simple sensor 10b is the highest, “sensor light receiving part”, “color filter”.
- the stability decreases in the order of “light source”.
- the “color filter” indicates the X, Y, and Z filters in the simple sensor 10b and the R, G, and B filters in the liquid crystal display unit 40 as described above.
- the “light source” indicates a CCFL or white LED in the liquid crystal display unit 40.
- the “sensor light receiving part” is made of silicon, which is a metal, and its optical characteristics are sufficiently stable compared to other optical members. That is, even in the simple sensor 10b (simple sensor), the linearity (such as the output voltage with respect to the input luminance) determined by the characteristics of the sensor light receiving unit is highly reliable.
- the “color filters” are roughly classified into two types as described above, and R, G, and B filters are used for the display device 100, and X, Y, and Z filters are used for the simple sensor 10b.
- the X, Y, and Z filters comply with CIE 1931 regulations, their physical characteristics tend to be fragile in general. That is, the X, Y, and Z filters are subject to fading, fading, and yellowing, that is, easily deteriorated, because the organic dye constituting the color filter chemically changes due to exposure to ultraviolet rays and hydrolysis due to moisture. Since this deterioration characteristic differs for each filter material, the X, Y, and Z filters have different deterioration characteristics.
- the output of X, Y, and Z changes independently of each other due to the aging of the color filter unit (the ratio of the outputs X, Y, and Z such as X / Y changes). It is a feature.
- the inventor of the present application believes that the main cause of deterioration or failure of the simple sensor 10b is that the X, Y, and Z filters have different deterioration characteristics, and the ratio of the output X, Y, and Z changes in the simple sensor 10b. Think.
- the “light source” has a high energy density because power is supplied and self-heats, so that it is most easily deteriorated among optical members. Since this deterioration characteristic varies depending on the material of the light source, the luminance of the three primary colors R, G, and B, and the ratio of the outputs R, G, and B (the ratio of the output B to the output R) are displayed on the display screen of the display device 100. Etc.) change. For example, the display screen of the display device 100 causes aged deterioration such as yellowing of white chromaticity.
- the main reason for the deterioration of the display device 100 over time is that the light source members that generate the three primary colors R, G, and B included in the white light emitted from the light source have different deterioration characteristics. I think there is. For this reason, it is considered necessary to calibrate the luminance and chromaticity of the display device 100 using the simple sensor 10b.
- each of the x, y, and z values converted from the X, Y, and Z values output from the simple sensor 10b, and the x, y, and z stored in the first storage unit 23 are displayed.
- Each of the values is compared, and the principle that can determine whether or not the simple sensor 10b has deteriorated will be described.
- the x, y, and z values are expressed as follows using the X, Y, and Z values output from the sensor 10 (the reference sensor 10a and the simple sensor 10b) according to CIE 1931 regulations.
- xy values indicate the ratios of the outputs X, Y, and Z of the sensor 10 (the reference sensor 10a and the simple sensor 10b).
- x can be expressed as (1-yz), indicating the ratio of outputs X, Y and Z.
- the ratio of the outputs X, Y and Z will be referred to as the XYZ ratio.
- the display color displayed on the liquid crystal display unit 40 Is a color having a luminance of one primary color (single color) included in white light emitted from the “light source”.
- the G and B components included in white emitted from the light source are blocked by the “color filter” in the liquid crystal display unit 40 and do not reach the simple sensor 10b.
- the change in the ratio of the outputs R, G, and B occurring on the display screen of the display device 100 due to the deterioration of the “light source” affects the XYZ ratio of the simple sensor 10b that reaches only one of the three primary colors. There is nothing.
- a decrease in luminance that occurs on the display screen of the display device 100 due to deterioration over time of the “light source” also appears in common with each of the outputs X, Y, and Z of the simple sensor 10b, and therefore affects the XYZ ratio of the simple sensor 10b Absent.
- the XYZ ratio of the simple sensor 10b is not affected by the aging deterioration of the display device 100, and is constant when the simple sensor 10b is not deteriorated.
- factors other than the deterioration of the “light source” included in the display device 100 among the factors that change the XYZ ratio are the deterioration of the characteristics of the “sensor light receiving unit” of the simple sensor 10b, or the X, Y, and Z filter. It is characteristic deterioration.
- the change in the XYZ ratio is considered to reflect the failure or deterioration of the “color filter” of the simple sensor 10b.
- the MPU 32 includes each of the x, y, and z values converted from the X, Y, and Z values output from the simple sensor 10b, and the x, Each of the y and z values is compared to determine whether or not the simple sensor 10b has deteriorated. Therefore, even if the user of the display device 100 does not have the reference sensor 10a serving as a reference, but has the simple sensor 10b, the user can easily measure the display on the display device 100 using the color sensor. It can be determined whether or not the output of the sensor 10b is reliable. If there is no reliability, it is possible to determine whether or not the simple sensor 10b should be used, that is, the availability of use of the simple sensor 10b.
- FIG. 2 is a diagram illustrating a data structure of data stored in the first storage unit 23.
- the first storage unit 23 has items including “measurement / display color” and “XYZ ratio”. This figure shows the x, y, and z values (XYZ ratio) calculated by the MPU 32 based on the X, Y, and Z values measured by the reference sensor 10a.
- 2 is a diagram two-dimensionally illustrating each of B and B.
- the first storage unit 23 indicates that 0.546 is stored as the x value of R of the three primary colors.
- FIG. 3 two-dimensionally represents the x, y, and z values calculated by the MPU 32 based on the X, Y, and Z values measured by the simple sensor 10b for each of the three primary colors R, G, and B.
- the color gamut of the display device 100 is stored in the first storage unit 23 using the reference sensor 10a before the display device 100 is shipped from the factory.
- the user manufacturer of the display device 100
- the MPU 32 first transmits to the video signal controller 33 a test signal corresponding to R of the three primary colors that is the end of the color gamut of the display device 100.
- the video signal controller 33 controls the OSD function unit 35 to cause the LCD drive unit 42 to display an image corresponding to the maximum gradation of R on the liquid crystal display unit 40. Thereby, an R color image is displayed on the entire surface of the screen of the liquid crystal display unit 40.
- the MPU 32 receives the X, Y, and Z values output from the reference sensor 10 a via the communication unit 22, and these three values are provided for each R, G, and B inside the MPU 32, for example.
- X, Y, and Z values corresponding to R are stored in the register Rg1.
- the control unit After displaying the R color image for a predetermined period and acquiring the X, Y, and Z values, the control unit also executes the procedure 1 and the procedure 2 for the three primary colors G and B, and corresponds to each color.
- the X, Y, and Z values are acquired, and the X, Y, and Z values are temporarily stored in the first register Rg1 for each G and B.
- the MPU 32 reads the X, Y, and Z values from the first register Rg1 for each acquired primary color, and calculates the x, y, and z values defined by the xyY color system of the CIE standard 1931 from these values.
- the x, y, and z values corresponding to the respective primary colors are stored in the second register Rg2 provided corresponding to each of R, G, and B in the MPU 32.
- the MPU 32 reads the x, y, and z values for each of R, G, and B from the second register Rg2, and stores these data in the first storage unit 23.
- storage part 23 is comprised with non-volatile memories, such as EEPROM, for example, and memorize
- the display device 100 is shipped from the factory, when the user (the purchaser of the display device 100) calibrates the color gamut of the display device 100 using the simple sensor 10b, the following steps 5 to 8 are performed. 1
- the data stored in the storage unit 23 and the data measured by the simple sensor 10b are compared and determined.
- the user (the purchaser of the display device 100) connects the simple sensor 10b to the communication unit 22 via the USB cable, and then inputs a command to start display calibration processing to the MPU 32 via the operation unit 21.
- the MPU 32 receives the X, Y, and Z values output from the simple sensor 10b via the communication unit 22, and once these three values are provided corresponding to, for example, each of R, G, and B inside the MPU 32.
- the X, Y, and Z values corresponding to R are stored in the register Rg1 (which may be the same register as in step 2).
- the x, y, and z values corresponding to the respective primary colors are stored in a second register Rg2 (which may be the same register as in step 3) provided corresponding to each of R, G, and B inside the MPU 32.
- the MPU 32 reads x, y, and z values for each of R, G, and B from the second register Rg2, calculates the difference between each of these data and the corresponding data stored in the first storage unit 23, and MPU 32 ⁇ x, ⁇ y, and ⁇ z values corresponding to each primary color are stored in a third register Rg3 provided corresponding to each of R, G, and B inside.
- the MPU 32 determines whether each data stored in the third register Rg3 is equal to or less than data preset in the second storage unit 24.
- the data set in advance in the second storage unit 24 is, for example, 0.01, and this value assumes deterioration over time (deterioration of the light source, etc.) of the display device 100 itself when the display device 100 is used for 10,000 hours.

Abstract
Description
操作部21は、ユーザからの指令を受け付け、指令に対応する信号をMPU32(MPU:Micro Processor Unit)に出力する。
x=X/(X+Y+Z)、y=Y/(X+Y+Z)、z=1-(x+y)である。
