- the ratio (W / L) between the flow path width W and the length L of the diffuser portions D1 and D2 is set to 5 or less.
- the flow width W and the length L are added to the discharge-side diffuser portion D2, but the same applies to the supply-side diffuser portion D1.
- the fuel gas and the oxidant gas supplied from the supply manifolds H1 and H3 can be rectified (or diffused), and these gases can be supplied uniformly to the entire membrane electrode structure 2, and the membrane electrode can be supplied.
- the remaining fuel gas and oxidant gas that have passed through the structure 2 can flow smoothly to the discharge manifolds H4 and H6.
- the fuel cell FC is provided with a gas seal between the edges of the frame 1 and the separator 3. That is, as shown in FIGS. 3 and 4, the fuel cell FC is configured such that the edges of the frame 1 and the separator 3 are sealed with the adhesive B, and in a state where a plurality of sheets are laminated, The separators 3 are also sealed with the adhesive B. In this embodiment, a cooling fluid is circulated between the adjacent separators 3 and 3. In addition, when the separator 3 has a function of a current collector or an external terminal, an insulator may be interposed between the separators 3.
- the gas seal with the above-described adhesive B hermetically separates the respective distribution areas of the fuel gas, the oxidant gas, and the cooling fluid between the individual layers. That is, in the example shown in FIG. 1, a seal line SL for allowing the oxidant gas to flow to the air electrode 23 of the membrane electrode structure 2 is provided on the upper surface of the lower separator 3 (and the lower surface of the frame). In addition, a seal line SL is provided on the upper surface of the frame 1 (and the lower surface of the upper separator) for flowing fuel gas to the fuel electrode 22 of the membrane electrode structure 2. Furthermore, a seal line SL for circulating a cooling fluid is provided on the upper surface of the upper separator 3.
- the gas seal may be an adhesive seal or a solid seal such as a gasket, or both of them may be used in combination.
- the fuel cell FC having the above-described configuration is formed by stacking a plurality of fuel cells to form a fuel cell stack FS.
- the fuel cell stack FS includes a stacked body St formed by stacking a plurality of fuel cells FC, and the stacked body St between the upper and lower end plates 12 and 13 spanning the plurality of holding rods 11. Is arranged.
- middle plate 15 are interposed between the laminated body St and the upper end plate 12, and the laminated body St is made into the state pressurized in the lamination direction shown by the arrow in the figure.
- a predetermined surface pressure is applied to the individual fuel cells FC, and the gas sealability, conductivity, and the like are favorably maintained.
- the frame 1 and the separator 3 are spaced apart from each other in the range from the membrane electrode structure 2 to the gas seal (SL). That is, the frame 1 and the separator 3 are separated from each other in the entire region of the diffuser portions D1 and D2 that are the rectification regions of the reaction gas, and form a gap for the reaction gas flow.
- the fuel cell FC has convex portions 5 and 6 on both surfaces of the opposing surfaces of the frame 1 and the separator 3, and the convex portions 5 and 6 and the convex portions 5 and 6. Gaps 5S and 6S are provided between the other side.
- the shapes of the convex portions 5 and 6 are not limited, but in the illustrated example, each of them has a truncated cone shape and is arranged vertically and horizontally at a predetermined interval.
- convex part 5 of the frame 1 and the convex part 6 of the separator 3 are arranged so as to be shifted from each other as shown in FIG. 3, or arranged so as to face each other as shown in FIG. Clearances 5S and 6S are formed between the other side.
- the separator 3 is provided with the above-described convex part 6 facing the frame 1 and the above-described rib 4 whose top part is in contact with the membrane electrode structure 2, and as shown in FIG.
- the height of the portion 6 is h1
- the height from the bottom of the convex portion 6 to the top of the rib 6 is h2
- the relationship is h1 ⁇ h2.
- the thickness of the frame 1 is equal to or less than the thickness of the membrane electrode structure 2.
- the size of the gaps 5S and 5S between the convex portions 5 and 6 and the counterpart is the amount of decrease in thickness due to aging of the membrane electrode structure 2. It has a larger configuration. This configuration is for maintaining the gaps 5S and 5S against the aging of the membrane electrode structure 2, and the thickness reduction amount can be obtained by experiments or the like. A more reliable configuration for maintaining the gaps 5S and 5S is to make the dimensions of the gaps 5S and 5S about the thickness of the membrane electrode structure 2.
- the frame 1 and the separator 3 are separated from each other in the range (diffuser portions D1, D2) from the membrane electrode structure 2 to the gas seal (SL) without being in contact with each other.
- the pressurizing force in the stacking direction does not act between the frame 1 and the separator 3 but works effectively between the membrane electrode structure 2 and the separator 3.
- the increase in contact resistance can be prevented.
- the pressing force in the stacking direction is always applied to the fuel cell stack FS, the contact state between the membrane electrode structure 2 and the separator 3 even if the thickness of the membrane electrode structure 2 is reduced due to aging. Is maintained and no surface pressure loss occurs.
- the rib 4 precedes the membrane electrode structure when stacked. It comes in contact with the body 2, and a gap 6S between the convex portion 6 and the counterpart side can be secured.
- the rib 4 precedes the membrane electrode structure 2 and the gap 6S is secured, so that the surface pressure between the membrane electrode structure 2 and the separator 3 is secured. Is kept good to prevent an increase in contact resistance. Thereby, the contact resistance between the membrane electrode structure 2 and the separator 3 can be kept low, and good battery performance can be maintained.
- the height of the convex portion 6 in the separator 3 is less than the height h2 of the rib 4, the height of the diffuser portions D1 and D2 of the separator 3 is reduced. This means that when the separator 3 is made of metal and press-molded, the amount of processing becomes small. When this amount of processing decreases, it becomes easy to form a complicated shape such as, for example, reducing the distance between the convex portions.
- the distance between the protrusions should be set within the allowable load range of the fuel cell auxiliary equipment such as a compressor so that the pressure loss when the gas flows does not increase.
- the fuel cell FC has a configuration in which convex portions 5 and 6 are provided on both surfaces of the frame 1 and the separator 3 facing each other, and gaps 5S and 6S are provided between the convex portions 5 and 6 and the counterpart side. Therefore, as shown in FIG. 8, even when the frame 1 is bent due to a differential pressure between the fuel gas and the oxidant gas, the protrusions 5 and 6 are further bent by contacting the other side. At the same time, the gas flow path can be secured. Further, the contact of the convex portions 5 and 6 has an effect of reducing the amount of displacement of the frame 1 and reducing the load on the frame 1.
- the dimensions of the gaps 5S and 6S between the convex portions 5 and 6 and the counterpart side thereof are made larger than the thickness reduction amount due to the aging of the membrane electrode structure 2, so that FIG. Even if the thickness of the membrane electrode structure 2 is reduced as shown in FIG. 9B from the initial state shown in A), the gaps 5S and 6S can be secured. Thereby, the surface pressure between the membrane electrode structure 2 and the separator 3 is maintained satisfactorily to prevent an increase in contact resistance, and functions such as a load reduction at the time of deformation of the frame 1 and securing of a gas flow path, etc. Can also be maintained.
- the fuel cell FC is arranged such that the convex portion 5 of the frame 1 and the convex portion 6 of the separator 3 are shifted from each other.
- a large gap 5S, 6S between the frame 1 and the separator 3 is secured against a situation such as a decrease in the thickness of the membrane electrode structure 2 due to deterioration over time or a bending of the frame 1 due to the differential pressure of the reaction gas.
- a wide space for the reaction gas to flow can be secured.
- the fuel cell FC has the convex portion 5 of the frame 1 and the convex portion 6 of the separator 3 arranged opposite to each other.
- the convex portions 5 and 6 are temporarily brought into contact with each other to serve as a stopper, preventing the entire deformation and excessive load on the membrane electrode structure 2.
- the function of further increasing the mechanical strength is provided.
- the fuel cell FC has integrated the frame 1 and the membrane electrode structure 2 by resin molding, the production efficiency is improved and the convex portion 5 is formed in a more complicated shape than the metal press molding. It can be easily molded.
- the fuel cell stack FS formed by stacking the fuel cells FC described above maintains a good surface pressure between the separator 2 and the membrane electrode structure 2 in each fuel cell FC, thereby increasing the contact resistance. Therefore, an efficient power generation function can be obtained over a long period of time.
- FIG. 10 is a diagram for explaining another embodiment of the fuel battery cell of the present invention.
- the convex portion 6 is provided only on the separator 3, and the gap 6 ⁇ / b> S is provided between the convex portion 6 and its counterpart.
- any structure may be used as long as a convex portion is provided on at least one of the opposing surfaces of the frame and the separator, and a gap is provided between the convex portion and the counterpart. Therefore, as shown in FIG. 10, a configuration in which the convex portion 6 is provided only on the separator 3 or a configuration (not shown) in which the convex portion is provided only on the frame can be adopted. Actions and effects equivalent to the form can be obtained.
- FIG. 11 is a diagram illustrating another embodiment of the fuel cell stack FS.
- the illustrated fuel cell stack FS includes a stack St formed by stacking a plurality of fuel cells FC.
- the fuel cell FC includes a membrane electrode structure 2 having a frame 1 around it, and two separators 3 and 3 sandwiching the frame 1 and the membrane electrode structure 2, and the internal structure thereof is the same as that of each of the embodiments described above. It is the same thing.
- the fuel cell stack FS includes the stacked body St and end plates 31 and 32 disposed on both ends in the stacking direction of the stacked body St, and connects the end plates 31 and 32 to form the stacked body St. Pressure is applied in the stacking direction.
- an end plate 31 is provided at one end portion (right end portion in FIG. 11) in the stacking direction of the stacked body St via a current collecting plate 33 and a spacer 34.
- An end plate 32 is provided at the other end via a current collecting plate 35.
- the current collecting plates 33 and 35 have connectors 35 ⁇ / b> A (only one is shown) penetrating the end plates 31 and 32.
- the fuel cell stack FS includes the fastening plates 36 and 37 on both surfaces (upper and lower surfaces in FIG. 11) on the long side of the fuel cell FC with respect to the stacked body St, and both surfaces on the short side. Further, reinforcing plates 38 and 39 are provided.
- the fastening plates 36 and 37 have attachment pieces 36A and 37A for the outer side surfaces of the end plates 31 and 32 in a flat plate-like main body portion.
- the reinforcing plates 38 and 39 have mounting pieces 38A and 39A for the outer surfaces of the end plates 31 and 32 and holding portions 38B and 39B for the fastening plates 36 and 37 in a flat plate-like main body portion. Both the reinforcing plates 38 and 39 are overlapped with the holding portions 38B and 39B on the edge portions of the fastening plates 36 and 37 and are fitted to the side portions of the stacked body St.
- the fuel cell stack FS has a case-integrated structure by connecting the fastening plates 36 and 37 and the reinforcing plates 38 and 39 to the both end plates 31 and 32 by an appropriate number of bolts B.
- the frame 1 and the separator 3 are separated from each other in each fuel cell FC, and the stack St composed of such fuel cells FC is sandwiched between the end plates 31 and 32. Therefore, as described above, the contact surface pressure between the membrane electrode structure 2 and the separator 3 can always be maintained satisfactorily, and at the same time, the stacked body St can be brought into a pressurized state.
- the fuel cell stack FS since the frame 1 and the separator 3 are separated from each other in each fuel cell FC, the elastic force (repulsive force against pressurization) of the frame 1 is mutually adjacent to the adjacent fuel cell FC. Will act. Therefore, the fuel cell stack FS is equivalent to pressurizing the whole stack St in the stacking direction, and the stack St without using the spring member (14) of the fuel cell stack described in FIG. The pressurization state can be maintained. Thereby, it can contribute to reduction of a number of parts and manufacturing man-hours, reduction of manufacturing cost, size reduction, weight reduction, etc.
- the fuel cell and the fuel cell stack of the present invention are not limited to the above embodiments, and the shape, number, and materials of each component are within the scope of the present invention. Etc. can be changed as appropriate.
