Definitions
- the present invention relates to a pigment dispersion using a yellow pigment for ink, an aqueous pigment dispersion in which the pigment dispersion is dispersed in an aqueous medium, a method for producing the same, and an inkjet containing the aqueous pigment dispersion as a main component
- the present invention relates to a recording ink.
- Water-based inks are often used for non-industrial inkjet recording applications because they can reduce the risk of fires and mutagenicity, which are problems with oil-based inks.
- inks using pigments as water-based inks for ink jet recording have the advantage of providing excellent light resistance, but if the pigments cannot be sufficiently miniaturized, stable ejection of droplets cannot be realized and formed. Image gloss does not improve. Furthermore, it is difficult to stably hold the pigment particles once refined, and the nozzles are clogged due to aggregation and sedimentation of the pigment.
- Sedimentation due to aggregation of pigments causes serious problems such as a decrease in yield and instability of quality even in the production process of an aqueous pigment dispersion that is an intermediate of ink.
- a method of dispersing a pigment in an aqueous medium using a polymer-based dispersant has been studied, but the pigment is dispersed only with a polymer-based dispersant so as to have a fine particle size. In general, it is difficult to stably maintain the dispersion of the pigment over a long period of time.
- the present applicant has previously proposed an aqueous pigment dispersion using pigment yellow 155, which is a bisacetoacetoarylide pigment, using a styrene-acrylic acid copolymer as a dispersant (patent).
- Patent Document 1 the aqueous pigment dispersion obtained in Patent Document 1 has excellent color development and light resistance, which are the characteristics of Pigment Yellow 155, but is used as an inkjet ink having a low viscosity and an important discharge property.
- the pigment is not necessarily sufficiently dispersed, and further, the precipitation of the pigment due to aggregation during storage cannot be sufficiently suppressed.
- the applicant adds a diol compound having a specific structure from the kneading step of the pigment, produces a solid pigment dispersion containing the diol compound at room temperature, and disperses the pigment dispersion in an aqueous medium.
- the precipitation due to the aggregation of the pigment was greatly reduced, and the dispersion stability of the aqueous pigment dispersion was greatly improved (see Patent Document 2).
- yellow 155 is originally a pigment that is difficult to finely disperse.
- the object of the present invention is to disperse in a very small particle size, excellent dispersion stability, low sedimentation even at low viscosity, and yellow color that gives excellent gloss when used as the main component of ink for ink jet recording. It is to provide an aqueous pigment dispersion.
- the present inventors have developed a so-called bridge aggregation in which the resin is bridged between the pigment particles and the pigment particles are aggregated particularly during the dispersion process and in the process of drying the ink. It has been found that suppressing the generation of the toner further increases the dispersibility of the pigment and is effective for increasing the gloss. Therefore, the applicant effectively coated the surface of the bisacetoacetarylide pigment with a resin of a styrene-acrylic acid copolymer in advance, thereby preventing the pigment dispersion by suppressing bridging aggregation between the pigment particles by the resin. I recalled realizing it.
- the present inventors have found that a pigment dispersion that gives high gloss with improved dispersibility can be produced when an acetylene glycol surfactant is used as an additive. - surfactant products contain the above-mentioned compounds and mixtures used as surfactants as main components, and can be used as kneading aids as they are. However, it is preferable to use those containing 70% by mass or more, more preferably 80% by mass or more, in the activator product as a total amount of the above-mentioned surfactant compounds.
- wetting agent (d) contained in the pigment dispersion of the present invention known ones can be used, such as glycerin, ethylene glycol, diethylene glycol, triethylene glycol, tetraethylene glycol, polyethylene glycol, propylene glycol, polypropylene glycol, Polyols such as 1,3-propanediol, 1,4-butanediol, 1,5-pentanediol, 1,6-hexanediol, 1,2,6-hexanetriol, trimethylolpropane, pentaerythritol; Examples include lactams such as 2-pyrrolidone, N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone, and ⁇ -caprolactam; 1,3-dimethylimidazolidine, among which diethylene glycol is preferable.
- lactams such as 2-pyrrolidone, N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone, and ⁇ -caprolactam
- wetting agents (d) Since these wetting agents (d) have a high boiling point, they are not volatilized in the kneading step, and stable kneading conditions are maintained. In addition, since the wetting agent (d) is a part of the composition of the ink for ink jet recording, it is not necessary to distill off when preparing the aqueous pigment dispersion or the ink for ink jet recording. can do.
- the aqueous pigment dispersion of the present invention can be prepared by dispersing the above-described pigment dispersion in water or an aqueous medium mainly composed of water.

- a known additive component such as an agent can be added as appropriate to adjust the pigment concentration and viscosity.
- the pigment dispersion can be produced, for example, by the following method.
- a bisacetoacetalilide pigment (a), a styrene-acrylic acid copolymer (b), a basic compound (c), a wetting agent (d), and a kneading aid A kneading step of kneading the mixture containing the agent (e) to produce a solid pigment composition at room temperature, and a dispersion step of dispersing the pigment composition in an aqueous medium, the kneading aid (e ) Is the following general formula (1)

- R1, R2, R3 and R4 each independently represents a linear or branched alkyl group having 1 to 8 carbon atoms in the main chain.
- a polyoxyethylene alkyl ether having an alkyl group with 12 to 14 carbon atoms or the following general formula (3)

- a bisacetoacetalilide pigment (a), a styrene-acrylic acid copolymer (b), a basic compound (c), a wetting agent (d), and a kneading aid.
- the kneading aid (e) functions as a dispersion aid for the bisacetoacetalilide pigment (a) at the time of kneading, so that the bisacetoacetarylide pigment ( a)
- the coating of the styrene-acrylic copolymer (b) on the surface and the dispersion of the pigment (a) thereby proceed well.
- kneading is performed in a state where the kneading aid (e) is a dispersion aid and the solid content ratio is high and a large shearing force is applied, and uniform mixing of the pigment and resin and crushing of the pigment are performed efficiently. is important.
- the pigment particles are made into a lump and the kneading is continued, whereby a sufficient shearing force is applied to the mixture from the kneading apparatus, and the pigment in the aggregated state is efficiently obtained.
- the styrene-acrylic acid copolymer (b) that has been crushed and swollen with water, a basic compound (c) and a wetting agent (d) is spread on the surface of the pulverized and refined pigment, The particle interface of the acetarylide pigment (a) can be efficiently covered.
- the amount of the wetting agent (d) used in the kneading step of the method for producing the aqueous pigment dispersion of the present invention is such that the mass ratio (d) / (a) of the wetting agent (d) to the bisacetoacetarylide pigment (a) is as follows. It is preferably 16/100 to 35/100. In a region where the mass ratio (d) / (a) is smaller than this range, the pigment particles tend not to be sufficiently gathered during kneading, and the efficiency of kneading performed in the form of powder tends to decrease.
- the mixture tends to be in a liquid state or a state close to that at the time of kneading, and the styrene-acrylic acid copolymer (b) tends to move to the liquid phase. For this reason, the surface of the pigment cannot easily be sufficiently covered with the copolymer. Furthermore, in the region where the mass ratio (d) / (a) is larger than the above range, the pigment particles tend to move into the liquid phase, and thus there is a tendency that sufficient stress is not applied to the pigment. The kneading operation cannot easily be carried out.
- the ratio of (d) / (a) varies slightly depending on the kneading temperature. Generally, the higher the temperature, the smaller the amount of addition of the wetting agent (d) tends to suffice. It can be applied without any problem in the normal kneading temperature range.
- Styrene-acrylic acid copolymer (b) sufficiently stays on the surface of bisacetoacetalilide pigment (a) and coats the pigment, so that a sufficient settling-inhibiting effect is obtained when an ink for inkjet recording is produced. In addition, sufficient gloss of the image after printing with the ink can be obtained. However, if the amount of the styrene-acrylic acid copolymer (b) is too large and diffuses into the aqueous medium, the viscosity of the ink tends to increase, and the ink dischargeability tends to decrease.
- the mass ratio (b) / (a) between the styrene-acrylic acid copolymer (b) and the bisacetoacetoarylide pigment (a) is preferably set to 10/100 to 40/100.
- the viscosity of the aqueous dispersion is preferably less than 4.0 mPa ⁇ s at room temperature, and more preferably less than 3.5 mPa ⁇ s. If the aqueous pigment dispersion shows such a low viscosity range value, it becomes easy to obtain an ink for inkjet recording having a sufficient discharge speed.
- the method for producing an aqueous pigment dispersion of the present invention comprises a bisacetoacetalilide pigment (a), a styrene-acrylic acid copolymer (b), a basic compound (c), a wetting agent (d), and a kneading aid ( a step of kneading the mixture having a high solid content ratio including e), and dispersing the pigment dispersion produced by the method including the kneading step in an aqueous medium to produce an aqueous pigment dispersion.
- the solid content ratio is high, and the mixture to be kneaded needs not to be liquid.
- the styrene-acrylic copolymer (b) In the liquid state, at least a part or all of the styrene-acrylic copolymer (b) is likely to diffuse into the liquid, and the copolymer does not remain sufficiently on the pigment surface, so that sufficient coating is not performed. It is in. If the material to be kneaded becomes liquid, the mixture containing the pigment and the resin is not kneaded under a high shearing force, and the pigment is not sufficiently crushed, so that the pigment dispersion operation in the liquid as conventionally performed is performed. As in the case of producing an aqueous pigment dispersion only, the effects of the present invention such as a reduction in the particle size of the pigment and prevention of sedimentation tend not to be obtained.
- the solid content of the colored kneaded product during kneading is preferably 70 to 90% by mass, and more preferably 70 to 80% by mass.
- the solid content ratio is in this range, dilution and dispersion in an aqueous medium are likely to proceed rapidly even after completion of kneading, and good gloss and stability are exhibited as shown in Examples and Comparative Examples.
- the solid content ratio exceeds 90% by mass, dilution and dispersion after kneading tend to take a long time.
- mass transfer in the kneaded product is slow, dispersion tends to be uneven, and sufficient gloss and long-term dispersion stability. It tends to cause problems that are difficult to obtain.
- the solid content rate as used in the field of this invention is shown by the ratio of the sum total of the mass of a pigment (a) and a styrene-acrylic-acid type copolymer (b) with respect to the sum total of all the components.
- the powdered bisacetoacetarylide pigment (a) is mixed with a styrene-acrylic acid copolymer (b), a basic compound (c), a wetting agent (d) and a kneading aid (e).
- the bisacetoacetalilide pigment (a) and the powdered styrene-acrylic acid copolymer (b) are preferably mixed in advance to obtain a mixed powder. It is preferable to start kneading after adding the basic compound (c), the wetting agent (d), and the kneading aid (e), which are other essential components, to the mixed powder.
- the kneading apparatus is capable of generating a large shearing force effective for kneading solids.
- a stone, a metal mortar, a pestle, etc. is used as a representative container, and a pestle or pestle is used together with this.
- the method of kneading a solid mixture is mentioned.
- a mortar or pestle can be used instead. Even if these methods are used, by performing the kneading operation for 30 minutes or more, the progress of the crushing of the pigment and the coating of the pigment surface with the resin is almost saturated. Can be made.
- a kneading apparatus having a roll or a stirring blade and using a known and usual method.
- a pressure kneader having a stirring tank and stirring blades, a Henschel mixer, and a planetary mixer are preferable, and a kneading apparatus of a type in which the stirring blades can rotate and revolve is preferable.
- Typical examples thereof include a pressure kneader and a planetary mixer, and the latter is particularly preferable in that the corresponding viscosity range is wide and the kneading temperature can be lowered.
- the planetary mixer is a planetary type kneading device, and is a general term for kneading devices having two or more stirring blades that perform planetary motion (hereinafter referred to as “planetary mixer”).
- the bisacetoacetalilide pigment (a), which is the main component of the mixture obtained by adding each component in the kneading step, is a styrene-acrylic acid copolymer (b) 2 to 20 minutes after the start of kneading. It is preferable that the pigments (a) are coalesced through each other, and the aggregation proceeds to form a lump or a bar-like or rod-like aggregate.
- the kneading aid (e) By adding the kneading aid (e), the time required for this aggregation is shortened, and more efficient and good kneading is performed.
- the mixture in the solid state is too hard, it may have an adverse effect on the hue and gloss due to damage to the apparatus and destruction of the pigment particles. For this reason, in order to perform efficient and good kneading, it is preferable to set the addition amount of each component used in the kneading step within the range described above.
- components other than the bisacetoacetarylide pigment (a) Is preferably added stepwise without adding to the bisacetoacetalilide pigment (a) at once.
- the kneading time is not particularly limited, but is preferably in the range of 0.2 to 6 hours, and more preferably 0.5 to 3 hours.
- the kneading time is less than 0.2 hours, the coating of the pigment surface with the resin tends not to be completed, and if the kneading exceeds 6 hours, the productivity is lowered or the pigment is destroyed and the hue and gloss are changed. May occur.
- the pigment dispersion thus obtained is a colored kneaded product which is solid at room temperature, and is convenient for long-term storage and handling as a microcapsule-type modified pigment whose pigment surface is coated with a resin.
- the rotational speed of the kneading apparatus can be appropriately set within a range in which a strong shearing force capable of satisfactorily kneading the material to be kneaded can be generated.
- the expression of the effect of the surfactant used as a kneading aid is particularly noticeable compared to other surfactants. It is considered a thing.
- the expression of the effect of the present invention is considered to be peculiar to the combination of the bisacetoacetalilide pigment (a) and the kneading aid (e) used in the present application, as shown in this comparative example, and has a basic chemical structure.
- Pigment Yellow 185 which is considered to have different surface characteristics.
- This can be explained by considering the special surface properties of the bisacetoacetalilide pigment (a). That is, the bisacetoacetolide pigment (a) is rich in aromatic rings, ester bonds, and amide bonds, and ⁇ - ⁇ interaction and hydrogen bond play a certain role in the interaction with the resin. This is considered to be the cause of the strong overall action. For this reason, it is considered that the effect of the kneading aid (e) in the resin coating on the pigment surface in the kneading step is more remarkably exhibited.
- the solid color kneaded material which is a pigment dispersion prepared through the kneading step, is mixed with water or an aqueous medium containing water as a main component, thereby simplifying the process. It is possible to obtain a pigment dispersion. At this time, it can also be mixed and dispersed with other coloring materials such as dyes. It is also possible to adjust to a greenish or reddish yellow hue by mixing such coloring materials.
- the pigment surface of the bisacetoacetolide pigment (a) is sufficiently coated with the styrene-acrylic acid copolymer (b) having increased hydrophilicity by the addition of the basic compound (c), and the coating process is described in this application.
- the pigment composition is prepared by proceeding well with the kneading aid (e) used in the above as a dispersion aid. Therefore, it is possible to easily obtain an aqueous pigment dispersion by mixing the pigment composition and an aqueous medium, and in particular, an aqueous pigment dispersion in which pigment particles are finely arranged without using a commonly used pigment dispersion apparatus. Can be obtained.
- the mixing with the aqueous medium may be performed by a general-purpose stirrer having a stirring blade and a stirring tank, for example, by stirring as it is in a planetary mixer which is the above-described kneading apparatus.
- the pigment concentration in the dispersion thus obtained is preferably 1 to 30% by mass assuming use as an ink for inkjet recording. If the pigment concentration range is less than this region, the print density when used as an ink for ink jet recording tends to be insufficient, and if it exceeds this region, the viscosity tends to be too high and the handleability tends to be poor.
- a known dispersing apparatus When the colored kneaded material, which is a pigment dispersion, is mixed with an aqueous medium and dispersed in the aqueous medium, a known dispersing apparatus may be used for better dispersion or improvement of production efficiency. In particular, it is effective to introduce a dispersion process by a media disperser using beads, etc., and when adding components other than water in the dispersion process, use it for the purpose of obtaining uniformity of the component concentration in the liquid. You can also.
- Examples of the disperser using the media used in the dispersing step include a sand mill, a paint shaker, a ball mill, a sand grinder, a dyno mill, a disper mat, an SC mill, a spike mill, an agitator mill, and a pin mill.
- the present invention does not necessarily require a pigment dispersion step using a disperser, and when using a disperser, the dispersion time is within 10 minutes, preferably within 5 minutes so as not to desorb the resin on the pigment surface. It is preferable to keep it for a short time so as not to cause excessive dispersion.
- the colored kneaded material prepared in the kneading step it is preferable to mix with an aqueous medium and dilute with an aqueous medium to adjust to a suitable viscosity of the disperser, and 15 mPa ⁇ s or less. It is preferable to reduce to a viscosity of.
- the colored kneaded product and the aqueous medium may be mixed at once, or the aqueous medium may be mixed stepwise while sequentially stirring the colored kneaded product.
- the temperature at the time of mixing is not particularly limited but is preferably in the range of 5 to 70 ° C.
- the pigment concentration of the aqueous pigment dispersion formed after the completion of the dispersion step is preferably 10 to 20% by mass.
- the dispersion having the pigment concentration adjusted to about 1 to 7% is used as an ink jet recording ink by appropriately adding additional components described later and further adjusting the viscosity and the pigment concentration. It can also be used.
- the aqueous pigment dispersion having a high pigment concentration is temporarily stored as an intermediate for ink, and when the ink is needed, water, a known conventional ink component, other pigment dispersion, It can be used as a storage raw material for adding a dye or the like to make an ink for ink jet recording.
- a centrifugation step or a filtration step may be added after the second step (dispersion step).
- the aqueous pigment dispersion can be further diluted with an aqueous medium.
- a wetting agent is preferably added to the aqueous medium for diluting the aqueous pigment dispersion because it contributes to drying prevention, viscosity adjustment, and concentration adjustment in the ink for ink jet recording.
- the wetting agent the same wetting agent as that used in the kneading step for producing the pigment dispersion can be used.
- the content of the wetting agent in the ink for the purpose of preventing drying is preferably 3 to 50% by mass.
- a penetrant In preparing an ink for ink jet recording, a penetrant can be added for the purpose of improving the permeability of a recording medium and adjusting the dot diameter on the recording medium.
- the penetrant include lower alcohols such as ethanol and isopropyl alcohol; ethylene oxide adducts of alkyl alcohols such as ethylene glycol hexyl ether and diethylene glycol butyl ether; and propylene oxide adducts of alkyl alcohols such as propylene glycol propyl ether.
- the content of the penetrant in the ink is preferably 0.01 to 10% by mass.
- a surfactant can be added in order to adjust ink characteristics such as surface tension.
- the surfactant that can be added for this purpose is not particularly limited, and may be the same as or different from the surfactant added as the kneading aid (e) during kneading.
- Specific examples include various anionic surfactants, nonionic surfactants, cationic surfactants, amphoteric surfactants, etc. Among these, anionic surfactants and nonionic surfactants are preferable.
- additives for ink jet recording ink such as preservatives, antifungal agents, antifoaming agents, antioxidants, UV absorbers, etc. are added as appropriate to adjust the amount of aqueous medium and pigment concentration.

Abstract
Description

さらにC.I.
