Abstract

 本発明は、主としてニッケル水素電池用負極活物質に関する。 ニッケル水素電池は、電気自動車などの動力電源として注目を集めているが、前記電池の出力特性および耐久性をより向上させることが望まれている。前記電池用の負極活物質としては、主にMmNi5でなる水素吸蔵合金が用いられており、前記合金のNi の一部をCo,Mn,Al 等の元素に置換することで耐久性を高め、更なる高容量化のために、Mm の一部をMg で置換すること等が提案されているが、高温における寿命特性を向上させることは困難であるという問題があった。 本発明は、La とMg とNi とCo とAl と元素Mとを含む、前記合金を含む、 前記電池用負極活物質について、La とMg の合計に対して、Mg のモル比x を 0.01≦x≦0.5、Ni のモル比y を2≦y≦3、Co のモル比z を0.25≦z≦0.75、Al のモル比αを0.01≦α≦0.05、YおよびSn から選択される元素Mの量を前記合金の0.4wt%以下とすることで、上記問題の解決を図ったものである。
