Definitions
- Watch manufacturers are constantly seeking to vary the presentation of the time dial. For this purpose, many proposals have already been made to give the dial and turn of hours peculiar and unusual looks. In addition, additional indications relating to time are frequently displayed. Thus display devices give the day, the day of the week, the phases of the moon or the 24-hour time. Sometimes the watch has a second hour hand, adjustable to a time zone chosen at will. All these features are added to enrich the time display and make it more attractive.
- On the so-called medium or high-end watches it is common for these indications to be symbolized by a fine, semi-precious or precious stone, for example a diamond.
- the totality of the hourly indications "1, 2, ..., 12" can be represented physically or only a part of them by such stones. In fact, in many watch models, the representation of the hour clock is symbolized by four hourly markers, for example by the presence of a diamond at the time points "12", “3", “6” and “9". "Or even a single diamond at the place of twelve hours.
- Swiss patent CH 684 '814 describes a timepiece with means that make it possible to modify the presentation of the hour circle.
- a rack is arranged to cooperate with a ring and allow rotation.
- free rotating studs provided with satellites in engagement with the rack.
- the faces of prisms mounted on these studs are set with precious stones, which appear through openings in the caseband or dial.
- German patent DE 33 '129 describes a watch dial which allows to see the twenty-four hours of the day.
- a window at the place where the time is found shows a face of a ubic body, with an axis held by bearings. On the faces are written the corresponding hours of 1 to 12 and 13 to 24.
- the axis holding this body is provided with pins that comes to actuate at each clock tower a rod, itself connected to the axis animating the needles.
- the visible face of the body turns a quarter of a turn and passes, for example, from one hour to thirteen hours.
- French Patent FR 2 776 785 describes a constituent assembly of the clothing of a watch comprising a watch case and a bracelet provided with a clasp to bind to the box and a movable member provided with four decorative faces mounted pivoting on one of the two pieces.
- the part comprising the movable member is provided with a cutout revealing one of its faces.
- the immobilization of the movable member in one or the other of its positions is achieved by fixing the bracelet to the box.
- the present invention proposes a timepiece according to claim 1.

- Dial 3 and hands 4 appear conventional. However, the dial 3 is pierced with twelve orifices 16 at the location of each hour to reveal the stones, mounted on the studs 30, 40.
- Figure 2 depicts the mechanism of the variable hours lap according to a particular embodiment.
- the middle part 10 in two parts, with the milling and the desired cuts traps the rack 50 and twelve studs 30, 40 each provided with an axis 33 for their rotation and a satellite 34 for their training.
- Figure 3 describes the prior art contained in patent CH 684 '814. It represents a wristwatch 1 composed of a box formed of a middle part 10 and a bottom 20 containing a dial 3, needles 4, a movement 5, an ice-cream 6, and a crown 7.
- An actuating device 60 drives the circular rack 50. Plugs 30, 40 integral with the satellites 34, 44 are driven by the rack 50. A gemstone 35A ... 48A is mounted on each face of the studs 30, 40. Openings 16 in the dial 3 allow to see the stones. By actuating the device 60, different stones appear in the openings 16. In that the pads 30, 40 may be three or four faces and the satellites 34, 44 with nine or twelve teeth, the ordering of the stones according to the visible hours as a function of the rotation of the rack 50 comprises twelve possibilities.
- FIG. 4A and 4B show the operation of the pads in detail.
- the stud 40 is visible in FIG. 4A shown with its stem 42 of axis 43, its satellite 44 and its cube 41 mounted on the rod 42.
- the edges and in particular the corners 49 are rounded so as to be able to arrange the stud as close as possible as possible of the branch 14 of the caseband 10, that is to say the opening 16.
- the curvature of the edges obtained by corner rounding will avoid the cube 41 to conflict with the part 14 to vicinity of the opening 16 during its rotation.
- the face 45 of the cube 41 is inserted or crimped, for example a diamond 45A.
- In the adjacent face 46 is inserted a ruby 46A.
- the satellite 44 cooperates with the toothing 51 of the rack 50. According to the example shown in FIG. 4A, the satellite 44 has twelve teeth.
- FIG. 4B shows another example of a pad, of overall reference 30, not shown in the example of arrangement of FIG. 3.
- This stud comprises a rod 32 of axis 33.11 which is free to rotate around this axis.
- the body of the stud 30 has the shape of a right triangular prism 31, whose edges 39 are curved, for the same reasons as those already explained in the previous paragraph about the stud 40.
- the three faces parallel to the axis 33 are designated by the references 35, 36, 37. These faces have, for example, a diamond 35A, a ruby 36A and an emerald 37A.
- a satellite 34 cooperates with the toothing 52 of the rack 50. In the example shown, the satellite 34 has nine teeth.
- Fig. 5A shows the actuating device 60 of the rack 50 and a support device or brake 70.
- the actuating device is guided by the middle part 10 through bores adjusted to the dimensions of the portions 66, 67 of the rod 61 and wearing this piece.
- the gear characteristics of the toothed pilot wheels 63, 64 are adapted to those of the toothing 51, 52 of the rack 50 (same module and correspondence of the pitch diameters or primitive lines).
- the rack also has a floor profile 68 cooperating with a corresponding guide profile (not shown) formed in the bottom 20.
- At least one brake device 70 is provided. This device consists of a plate 71, for example glass, and - I _
- this device a spring 72 disposed in a recess in the bottom 20, so that a force is exerted by said spring on the rack, through the plate 71.
- the functions of this device are double: d ' on the one hand, to prevent any untimely rotation of the rack, for example during wrist movements, on the other hand, to allow easy and continuous rotation by actuation of the ring gear 65.
- Figs. 5B and 5C show an alternative embodiment in which the rack is formed of two independent parts 55, 56.
- the outer rack 55 is actuated by a device 6OB whose only toothed pilot wheel 6OD engages the teeth of the part 55.
- the inner rack 56 is itself engaged with the only toothed pilot wheel 6OC device 6OA.
- the adjustment of the faces bearing the overall reference 57 is such that there is no friction between the two racks, to prevent the rotation of one causing an unexpected rotation of the other.
- the other features are similar to those of device 60.
- FIG. 6 and 7 illustrate another solution to allow the variation of the rotation speed of the pads.
- a conical toothing is used to drive the triangular 30 and cubic studs 40 with the same rack 50.
- the satellite 34 of smaller diameter is placed on the highest part of the rack 50 while the satellite 44, which has the largest diameter is placed on the lowest part.
- FIG. 8 indicates an advantageous possibility of placing the ring gear 60 in direct engagement with a pad rod 32, 42 to drive a satellite 34, 44, which causes the rack 50 and the other 11 pads connected to the rack 50 to rotate. through their respective satellites.
- the watch according to the invention comprises the elements of a usual wristwatch.
- the case of this watch is not shown. It can be imagined from a usual construction.
- the dial 3 is equipped with twelve hourly signs 8 distributed around its periphery, presenting the appearance of stones. Needles 4 hours, minutes 4A and 4B seconds turn above the dial 3.
- the wall of the housing is traversed by a control rod 9 carrying a ring 60. This rod 9 actuates a control mechanism by the axial displacement of the ring 60 which can stop in three different positions.
- the dial 3 has been removed, the rod 9 and the control ring 60 are placed in their average position, so that various mechanisms housed under the dial are visible.
- the hourly signs 8 are decorations carried by studs 30, 40 of cylindrical or prismatic shape, with a curved side face which are distributed around the movement and can rotate about radial axes.
- Fig. 13 shows that the movement 5 of the described watch is engaged in a circular cage formed of two parts: a lower circle 80 and an upper circle 81, and that the studs 30, 40 are mounted on a rod 32, 42 which pivots by its ends in gorges in the circles 80 and 81.
- the stud 30, 40 oriented on three hours rotates on the rod 9. It is mounted on a sleeve 82 rotating on the rod 9. This sleeve 82 is secured, like the rods 32, 42, of a satellite 34, 44.
- a circular rack 50 ( Figure 13) is coaxial with the movement and placed on the plate. 73.
- This rack 50 has at its periphery a toothing 51 whose teeth are projecting downwards and meshing in the satellites 34, 44. The diameters thereof will naturally be adjusted so that their teeth mesh similarly in the toothing 51 This provision makes it possible to give specifications adapted to the different 30, 40 and turn them at different speeds, as described in patent CH 684 814.
- the rack 50 On its inner edge the rack 50 has another toothing 18, spaced teeth, directed radially.
- the clock wheel of hours 19 which is a common element of the movement 5 carries it a star wheel with twelve teeth 38. These cooperate with a ratchet wheel 21 housed in a circular recess of the plate 73. This wheel 21 is cut with an arched elastic arm 22 whose free end is hung between two studs planted in the bottom of the hollow.
- the ratchet wheel 21 further carries a ratchet 23 pivoting on a tenon integral with the board of the wheel 21.
- the pawl 23 is biased by a spring wire 24 pressed against a second pin and its rotation is limited by a third pin.
- Figure 10 compared with Figures 11 and 12 and independently of the control mechanism which will be explained later, shows how the ratchet wheel 21 works. She has a radial finger
- a control mechanism that adds other possibilities of animations of the pads is shown in part. It includes parts that are those of a usual mechanism.
- the rod 9 acts on a pull tab 27 whose positions are fixed by a pull-rod spring 28.
- An articulated assembly cooperates with the pull tab 27. It is formed of a rocking lever 29 and an angled lever 74 whose curved free end can engage with the beak of the pawl 23 and keep it out of state. operate the tooth 18 during the alternative rotation of the ratchet wheel 21.
- FIG. 13 shows that the articulated system 29, 74 is placed in a recess of the dial 3.
- the position of the mechanism shown in solid lines in FIG. 10 is an intermediate position designated by (B).
- the passage of the ring 60 in the depressed position (A) and the passage in the external position (C) both bring the lever 74, because of the curvature of its slotted rear portion, in the position shown in phantom in FIG.
- the pawl 23 can actuate the rack 50 when the wheel 21 returns to its disarmed position, as has been seen above.
- FIG. 12 shows how the mechanism behaves during a time setting.
- the hour wheel 19, 38 being actuated counterclockwise, the spout 25 of the wheel 21 is moved to the right and arque the elastic arm 22 outwards without the pawl 23 acting on the rack 50.
- each sector 79 can mesh as well in a satellite with nine teeth 34 as in the satellite with 12 teeth 44.
- the toothing 51 has only one tooth sector whose length covers the space occupied by two studs 30, 40 successive, every hour, a plot will turn from its exposed face to the adjacent face, and the precedent from it to the next If the pads 40 have four faces bearing successively white, black, white, red, by For example, during twelve hours of operation, each stud 40 will successively become black and then white, which will simulate the movement of an hour hand on the dial. For the next twelve hours, each pad will become red or black. is white, also simulating the movement of an hour hand but so as to indicate the hours of night.
- This arrangement may be equivalent to indicating the time in a time zone different from that for which the normal hour hand 4 ( Figure 9) is adjusted.
- the watch movement might not be mechanical, but quartz, which will be coupled an additional drive module of the crown and incorporating specific control means obvious to the skilled person.
