Abstract

 磁気記録層の結晶配向性をさらに向上させることにより、磁性粒を微細化しても高いS/N比と保磁力Hcを維持し、高記録密度化を図ることが可能な磁気記録媒体を提供することを目的とする。基板上に配向制御層16、非磁性の下地層18、磁気記録層22を備える磁気記録媒体において、配向制御層16はfcc構造であって(111)面が基板に平行であり、下地層18はhcp構造であって(0001)面が基板に平行であり、配向制御層16の(111)面の原子間距離は、下地層18の格子間隔に対して-0.2Å~+0.15Åであることを特徴とする(図1)。
