Definitions

  • the present disclosure relates to resin members including a color- shifting feature.
  • Security tags or security labels are provided with characteristic appearance or semiconductor integrated circuit (IC) information, which makes the tags or labels difficult to be counterfeited or falsified.
  • Some known examples of such characteristic appearance include color-shifting images, which change their color when viewed from different angles; special luminous images, which glow when exposed to light with a specific wavelength, such as ultraviolet rays and black light; and hologram images, which change their color (Japanese Patent Laid-open Publication No. H9(1997)-97011; Japanese Patent Laid-open Publication No. H8(1996)-95475; Japanese Patent Laid-open Publication No. Hl(1989)-23277).
  • Fig. 1 is a sectional view showing one example of the structure of the resin member of the present disclosure.
  • Fig. 2 is a sectional view showing one example of the structures of decorative films to be used in the present disclosure.
  • Fig. 3 is a sectional view showing the structure of the security label of Example 1.
  • the resin members of the present disclosure solve one or more of the above-mentioned existing problems.
  • the resin members of the present disclosure may be used to provide security tags or security labels which excel in design and are difficult to be reproduced.
  • the present disclosure provides a resin member comprising an elastic resin substrate having a three-dimensional structure in at least one surface thereof, and a decorative film comprising a color-shifting layer, the film being bonded to the surface having the three-dimensional structure.
  • the resin member of the present disclosure has a three-dimensional structure, namely, a three-dimensional configuration. Therefore, a combination of the three-dimensional configuration and a color arrangement of a surface color-shifting layer can reproduce three-dimensional logo marks or the like easily and can realize a high design performance.
  • the resin member of the present disclosure is an elastic article. It, therefore, can follow well to a surface of an object even if the surface is curved. Thus, it can be used in a variety of applications. Further, it is difficult to copy and analyze a three-dimensional shape. A forcible attempt of separation tends to result in fracture at the interface. It, therefore, is difficult to reproduce it.
  • Fig. 1 is a sectional view showing one example of the structure of the resin member of the present disclosure.
  • the resin member has a substrate 1 and a decorative film 2.
  • the substrate has a three-dimensional structure 3 in its one side.
  • the substrate used in the present disclosure is an article of elastic resin.
  • the elastic resin excels in flexibility and is attached easily to products when being fabricated into security tags or security labels. Further, when a body comes into contact with the molded article, the article will give it only a weak impact.
  • the elastic resin examples include polyurethane, polyurethane acrylate, polycarbonate, polyester, thermoplastic polyolef ⁇ n, and polyester-based thermoplastic elastomer.
  • the elastic resin molded article is has a Shore A hardness of from 30 to 120, and, in some embodiments, from 40 to 100.
  • the elastic resin substrate is in a sheet form and has a front surface and a back surface. At least one of the surfaces has a three-dimensional configuration with projections and/or depressions, such as patterns and sculptures.
  • Typical examples of such patterns or sculptures include, but are not limited to, logo marks, brand marks, trademarks and seals of companies.
  • the production of such substrates may be conducted in usual ways, for example, by pouring monomers into a mold and then polymerizing them.
  • the size of the substrate varies according to the application.
  • a substrate typically has a minimum thickness of about 0.5 millimeters (mm) and a maximum thickness of about 20 mm.
  • a color-shifting layer for example, a color-shifting coating, is then formed on the surface having the three-dimensional structure of the molded article.
  • a color-shifting coating is then formed on the surface having the three-dimensional structure of the molded article.
  • such a layer enhances the beauty of the three-dimensional configuration and it has an excellent counterfeit prevention effect due to the complex color change.
  • the color-shifting coating refers to a coating which forms a color-shifting layer which changes its color variously depending on the viewing angle or the incidence conditions of light.
  • the color-shifting coating includes flake-shaped pigments with a multilayer structure. A spectral effect caused by the multilayer structure generates an interferential wavelength, as a result, the color of the coating changes. Examples of such a color-shifting coating include "MAZIORA
  • a decorative film 2 containing the color-shifting coating is bonded onto the surface having the three-dimensional structure of the molded article as shown in Fig. 1.
  • Fig. 2 is a sectional view showing one example of the structures of decorative films to be used in the present disclosure.
  • the decorative film has a thermoplastic resin layer 4 and a color-shifting layer 5.
  • the thermoplastic resin layer 4 may not be essential.
  • the color-shifting layer 5 may further have thereon a decal layer or a protective layer.
  • a uniform coated film is formed on the three-dimensional structure of the molded article.
  • the thermoplastic resin layer can be shaped by heating to have a desired three-dimensional shape.
  • the thickness of the decorative film is from 1 to 500 micrometers ( ⁇ m), and preferably from 5 to 300 ⁇ m. If the decorative film has a thickness less than 1 ⁇ m, the decorative effect may be insufficient or the film may have a reduced strength and, as a result, the film may easily peel off from the surface of the molded article.
  • thermoplastic resin layer examples include films of polyethylene terephthalate, polyolefm, polyurethane, polyacrylate, polyurethane acrylate, polyvinyl chloride, nylon, EVA, polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), ethylene-tetrafluoroethylene copolymer (ETFE), perfluoroalkoxyalkane (PFA), and polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF).
  • the thickness of the thermoplastic resin layer is from 50 to 250 ⁇ m.
  • the method for bonding the decorative film to the molded article is not particularly limited.
  • a layer of an adhesive or pressure-sensitive adhesive is provided on the contact surface of the decorative film beforehand and then the decorative film is stuck on the molded article.
  • Another possible method includes molding a decorative film, and then filling an elastic resin in the molded decorative film, followed by solidification of the resin.
  • the method of molding a decorative film including a thermoplastic film by use of a mold is disclosed, for example, in Japanese Patent Laid-open Publication No. H5(1993)-269883.
  • the resulting resin member is used for security tags or security labels.
  • a layer of a pressure-sensitive adhesive or adhesive is formed on the back surface of the resin member, if necessary.
  • the resin member may also be provided with a film-shaped electronic circuit on its back surface and be used as an RFID tag or the like.
  • Fig. 3 is a sectional view showing the structure of the security label of this example. After stirring of the materials given in Table 1, the resulting mixture was poured into a mold and subjected to polymerization by heating. Thus, a urethane resin molded article 6 with a logo on its surface was obtained. The molded article obtained is a sheet with a minimum thickness of 1.0 mm and a maximum thickness of 2.0 mm.
  • a decorative film 7 ("color-shift PET film” manufactured by 3M, thickness 100 ⁇ m) was shaped in conformity with the form of the logo and then was attached onto the logo of the molded article 6.
  • the security label obtained followed a curved surface well and adhered thereto.
  • Example 1 On the adhesive surface of the security label obtained in Example 1, a non-contact film-like electronic circuit manufactured by FUJITSU, Ltd. was laminated to yield an RFID tag.
  • the security labels and RFID obtained in Example 1 and 2 have great performances of design and security and are difficult to imitate.
