Abstract

Die vorliegende Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zur Herstellung von gegebenenfalls alkylsubstituiertem 1,4-Butandiol durch zweistufige katalytische Hydrierung in der Gasphase von C4-Dicarbonsäuren und/oder deren Derivaten mit den folgenden Schritten: a) Einführen eines Gasstroms einer C4-Dicarbonsäure oder eines Derivates davon bei 200 bis 300 °C und 2 bis 60 bar in einen ersten Reaktor und katalytische Gasphasenhydrierung zu einem hauptsächlich gegebenenfalls alkylsubstituiertes gamma-Butyrolacton enthaltenden Produkt; b) Einführen des so erhaltenen Produktstroms in einen zweiten Reaktor bei einer Temperatur von 150 °C bis 240 °C und einem Druck von 15 bis 100 bar und katalytische Gasphasenhydrierung zu gegebenenfalls alkylsubstituiertem 1,4-Butandiol; c) Abtrennen des gewünschten Produkts von Zwischenprodukten, Nebenprodukten und gegebenenfalls nicht umgesetztem Edukt; d) gegebenenfalls Rückführen nicht umgesetzter Zwischenprodukte in eine oder beide Hydrierstufen, wobei in beiden Hydrierstufen jeweils ein Katalysator verwendet wird, der <= 95 Gew.-%, vorzugsweise 5 bis 95 Gew.-%, insbesondere 10 bis 80 Gew.-% CuO und >= 5 Gew.-%, vorzugsweise 5 bis 95 Gew.-%, insbesondere 20 bis 90 Gew.-% eines oxidischen Trägers aufweist, im zweiten Reaktor ein höherer Druck herrscht als im ersten Reaktor, und das dem ersten Reaktor entnommene Produktgemisch ohne weitere Reinigung in den zweiten Reaktor eingeführt wird.
