  • the data collection system used to collect the golfer "swing" characteristics includes two digital cameras arranged to capture three dimensional data.
  • the data analysis correlates actual three-dimensional data captured by said at least two cameras into a set of swing characteristics and determines a preferred club type based upon these known swing characteristics.
  • the data collection, analysis and display occur within a specific time frame of less than about one hour.
  • the data collection, analysis and display can all occur within a specific time frame of less than about 10 minutes.
  • the system and method of the present invention includes a memory and the ability to save said data of the golfer's swing in said memory, said method further comprising an additional step of transmitting the content of said memory via the internet to a web site for later remote access.

  • a minimum of two types of data should be collected in dete ⁇ r ⁇ iing a golfer's swing characteristics, such as club head speed and shaft flex, for example.
  • additional sensors may be used such that additional information may also be collected such as ball flight data including launch angle, or club head orientation at time of impact with the ball surface.
  • Sensors which may be used with the golf club would include, for example, rate gyros, accelerometers, orientation sensors, strain gauges and magnetic components. The methods of applying these sensors to a club and their preferred locations are known to those skilled in the art. Mimaturization of components in particular provide the opportunity to place and use the sensors with rninimal effect on the golfer's swing.
  • sensors external to the golf club may be used to measure the club movement and angle.
  • FIG. 5 shows an embodiment wherein a mat having sensors in a fixed configuration is used to obtain club head speed and position information as the club is swung over the mat.
  • the sensors comprise arrays of light emitters and receivers, where the light is reflected from the club head as it passes over the mat.
  • the club head information which may be collected in the this embodiment would include such statistical information as face angle of the club and speed of the club just prior to impact with the golf ball.

Abstract

L'invention concerne un procédé (fig. 3) permettant la sélection automatisée d'une canne de golf performante en fonction du type de swing d'un golfeur, et un système (fig. 1-2) qui peut être utilisé de manière rapide et aisée dans un environnement de vente au détail par exemple. Le golfeur exécute différents swings avec une canne (fig. 7-9) de golf devant une caméra (112, 212) numérique qui transmet les information relatives au swing exécuté à un dispositif informatique (non illustré) qui traite ces dernières. Différents paramètres se rapportant aux caractéristiques du swing du golfeur sont identifiés, et une canne de golf adaptée est sélectionnée et présentée au golfeur en moins d'une heure (fig. 3), de préférence en cinq à dix minutes environ. Des marques (610, 710a-b, 810a-b) peuvent être placées sur la canne de golf et/ou le golfeur afin de faciliter le repérage et la collecte de données par le système (fig. 1-2).
