Definitions
- the present invention relates in general to an Internet-advertising method and a system therefor, and more particularly to an Internet-advertising method and a system therefor which can select a desired time, position, technique and contents associated with an advertisement to be displayed through an Internet Web site.
- a banner advertisement is created on an Internet Web site by copying HyperText Markup Language (HTML) codes related to the contents of the advertisement to an associated page drawn up in HTML.
- HTML HyperText Markup Language
- Such a banner advertisement technique acts merely to display the contents of an advertisement, and a user can gain access to a Web site of an advertiser of the advertisement by clicking on the advertisement contents.
- this banner advertisement technique has a disadvantage in that it cannot obtain advertising effects desired by advertisers from users because advertisements are displayed in a boxlike shape.
- this banner advertisement technique provides advertisements uniformly irrespective of the ages or sexes of users, resulting in a significant reduction in advertising effects.
- an Internet-advertising system comprising an advertisement server including a user information system for authenticating users, an operation information system having data and programs associated with advertisement contents and advertisement techniques, and a use information system for counting the number of times that each user has viewed an advertisement and storing information about the counted number in a database; and a Web site server for sending data related to member registration, identification and password of a specific user to the advertisement server when the specific user logs in, running a client program on the basis of data sent from the advertisement server, sending advertisement image data corresponding to the age and sex of the specific user to a client and then sending the same advertisement image data or different advertisement image data to the client in response to a menu change by the specific user.
- Fig. 1 is a flowchart illustrating an Internet-advertising method in accordance with the present invention.
- Fig. 2 is a block diagram schematically showing the construction of an Internet- advertising system in accordance with the present invention.

- Fig. 2 is a block diagram schematically showing the construction of an Internet-advertising system in accordance with the present invention.
- the Internet-advertising system comprises an advertisement server including a user information system for authenticating users, an operation information system having data and programs associated with advertisement contents and advertisement techniques, and a use information system for counting the number of times that each user has viewed an advertisement and storing information about the counted number in a database.
- the Internet-advertising system further comprises a Web site server for sending data related to member registration, identification (ID) and password of a specific user to the advertisement server when the specific user logs in, running a client program on the basis of data sent from the advertisement server, sending advertisement image data corresponding to the age and sex of the specific user to a client and then sending the same advertisement image data or different advertisement image data to the client in response to a menu change by the specific user.
- ID identification
- an advertisement is created by copying HTML codes related to the contents of the advertisement from the operation information system in the advertisement server to the Web site server. Then, the Web site server classifies the contents of the advertisement according to the ages and sexes of users and advertising techniques and stores the classified contents in the form of files.
- the Web site server determines whether the specific user is a member. Upon determining that the specific user is not a member but a person desiring to register as a member, the Web site server provides a format necessary to member registration to the user to allow him or her to enter data in the format. On the contrary, if the specific user is a member, then the Web site server receives an ID and password from the user and sends them to the advertisement server. At this time, if the specific user is a newly registered member, the advertisement server issues a new ID and password to the user and sends associated data to the Web site server.
- PC personal computer
- the advertisement server inquires about user transaction information and then determines from the inquired information whether the user is a normal member. For a normal member, the advertisement server sends data associated with the age and sex of the specific user to the Web site server. If the user is not approved as a normal member, the advertisement server sends operation disable data to the Web site server. As a result, the Web site server receives and stores such user information and operation information from the advertisement server and then runs a client management program to select a desired advertisement based on the user information.
- the Web site server can provide information related to commodities matched with the ages of the users. Further, the Web site server can selectively provide advertisement contents matched with tastes depending on the sexes of the users. Moreover, the Web site server can select the size of an advertisement image based on the selected advertisement contents.
- the advertisement selected in this manner can be provided in various techniques. For example, the selected advertisement may be periodically turned on/off or it may become gradually smaller in size and ultimately disappear, which is a so- called minimizing technique. Other than these, different techniques may be employed to exert a variety of advertising effects.
- the Web site server can store information regarding a time interval at which the advertisement is turned on/off, or appears and disappears, and information regarding a time period for which the advertisement remains after appearing, as operation information in an HTML file provided from the advertisement server.
- the Web site server can store parameters for setting size reduction rate and ratio, in the HTML file provided from the advertisement server.
- the advertisement server can give incentives to the user on the basis of the number of advertisement viewing times.
- the Web site server provides the same advertisement repeatedly or a different advertisement matched with the age and sex of the user. Thereafter, if the user releases the connection to the Web site server, then the
- Web site server runs a program in the user PC, such as a Visual Basic, Power Builder or etc. and loads the contents of the advertisement matched with the age and sex of the user into the user PC.
- the user may view the loaded advertisement continuously or end or delete it by entering an end command or delete command if desired.
- the Web site server may invite the user to download the client management program and advertisement contents.
- the user may download the client management program and advertisement contents from the Web site server, install the downloaded client management program in his or her PC and view the downloaded advertisement contents.
- the user can receive incentives in proportion to the number of advertisement viewing times.
- the Web site server stores information regarding the number of advertisement viewing times and then sends the stored information to the advertisement server when the user accesses the Web site on the Internet the next time.
- the advertisement server calculates the number of advertisement viewing times and gives various types of incentives to the user on the basis of the calculated result.
- the present invention provides an Internet-advertising method and a system therefor which can break from a conventional limited function where, if a user selects a banner advertisement, he or she is connected to a Web site of an advertiser of the advertisement and then receives the contents of the advertisement from the Web site.
- an advertisement dedicated server provides a variety of custom-made commodity information matched with the user's taste to a Web site server. Therefore, the Web site server can provide commodity information capable of stimulating a user's interest and being helpful to the user. Further, the Web site server can combine the provided commodity information with a variety of advertising techniques such as an on off technique, minimizing technique and the like, so as to significantly improve advertising effects.
- the advertisement server can provide incentives to the user in compensation for the advertisement viewing, thereby improving the advertising effects still more.
