Definitions
- the present invention relates to bedding elements, and in particular the covers therefor, in particular the duvet covers.
- the elements which provide protection on the one hand against the cold and on the other hand the aesthetic padding are the classic blankets, eiderdowns or quilts, bedspreads and sleeping bags. All have their advantages, but also their disadvantages.
- Classic blankets remain widely used. However, they are more and more frequently replaced by quilts, because of their comfortable character, and because they are warm while being light.
- the traditional feather duvets have been replaced by synthetic duvets, which have certain advantages, particularly with regard to the prevention of allergies.
- the duvet should be protected with a washable cover in which it is inserted.
- duvet covers include at least two pieces of fabric joined by their lateral edges and by the front edges intended to be turned towards the head of the bed.
- the rear edges, intended to be turned towards the foot of the bed are left either completely or partially open, so that the quilt can be inserted into the cover and easily removed therefrom.
- the cover and the duvet are simply stuck under the mattress.
- the width of the cover (and duvet) is often greater than that of the mattress. Over time, due to the movements of the sleepers, on the one hand the duvet tends to come out of the cover, and on the other hand the bed tends to come apart.
- duvet covers of a similar kind, but the open side of which is provided with a smaller piece of fabric sewn or otherwise attached to the free part of that of the two pieces of fabric intended to be turned towards the top of the bedding. It is then this extra piece of fabric that is trapped under the mattress.
- a cover is for example described in patent application EP-A-0 026 968, and in patents CH-A-202 811 and CH-A-214326. This category of cover lets the quilt out less easily, but n is also not held satisfactorily on the bed.
- each of the two main pieces of fabric has a particular shape such that they are extended, in the middle of their posterior edges, by pieces of fabric themselves sewn together. to each other, both of whom are trapped under the mattress.
- This type of duvet cover is more satisfactory, but nevertheless imperfect for the sleeper.
- the bed has, in the long run, a tendency to fall apart, and the quilt also has a tendency to move inside the cover.
- the bedspreads are aesthetic elements, but often not very functional, which we only place on the bed outside of sleep periods. However, it has also been thought to provide them with holding means, described for example in document US-A-3,621,498.
- Each of these bedding elements has a unique appearance, which the user can get tired of. In addition, they can become contaminated relatively quickly, which requires maintenance accordingly.
- the present invention aims to solve in a simple and original way the various problems mentioned above.
- the subject of the invention is a cover for a bedding element capable of accommodating at least one duvet comprising a first piece of main fabric and a second piece of main fabric joined together by their lateral edges.
- the cover according to the invention is reversible. It comprises at least one holding device essentially affecting the shape of a rectangular parallelepiped open on one of its faces, and able to match the shape of one end of the mattress.
- a holding device comprises on each of its sides a first assembly zone and a second assembly zone.
- the assembly zones constitute edges of the rectangular parallelepiped. They can be assembled by sewing.
- These assembly zones can be produced from elements chosen from the edges of pieces of tissue and the internal zones of tissue.
- At least part of a holding device is made from a single thickness of fabric.
- all the parts of a holding device can be made from more than one thickness of fabric.
- the covers according to the invention comprise at least two housings each capable of accommodating a duvet. They can include three.
- a cover according to the invention may also comprise at least one piece of intermediate fabric placed between the two main pieces of fabric, this intermediate piece being of dimensions such that it is able to be superimposed on the other two pieces by defining with the main pieces.
- a device for holding a cover according to the invention may be able to fit the foot or the head of a mattress.
- the covers according to the invention may include a holding device which forms an integral part thereof.
- They may also include at least one removable holding device capable of being secured to the rest of the cover by detachable fixing means.
- the covers according to the invention may include elements able to allow their attachment to a box spring. It may for example be fabric legs.
- the invention also relates to a bedding element comprising a cover according to the invention and at least one filling element chosen from quilts and extra mattresses.
- a bedding element is suitable for use on a mattress, but also as a sleeping bag.
- it may include a holding device capable of marrying the head of a mattress when used on such a mattress, and capable of accommodating a pillow when it is used as a sleeping bag.
- the invention also relates to holding devices for covers for bedding elements as described above.
- the invention will be better understood by referring to the following description of different embodiments, reference being made to the accompanying drawings, in which the Pig. 1 shows a pattern composed of different pieces of fabric used for the production of a first embodiment of a reversible cover for a bedding element according to the invention;

- Figs. 1 and 2 represent a cover 100 according to the invention, entirely reversible, respectively before and after its manufacture.
- the cover 100 is designed to accommodate a duvet 101, visible on the cutout shown in FIG. 2. As can also be seen in this FIG. 2, the cover 100 can be used on a mattress 1, at the foot 2 of which it is then perfectly secured thanks to its integrated holding device, designated under the general reference 500, which will be described in more detail in the following description.
- the first main piece of fabric 102 and the second main piece of fabric 103 are superimposed such that their first side edges 104, their intermediate edges 105, their second side edges 106, as well as their front edges 107 and their rear edges 108 respectively. coincide.
- first lateral edges 104 bordering on its height the widest part of each of the parts 102 and 103
- intermediate edges 105 bordering on its height the narrowest part of each of the parts 102 and 103.
- the assembly is carried out in such a way that, when the cover 100 is finished, the reverse sides 102V and 103V between which the duvet 101 will be introduced are conventionally turned towards each other.
- a room 102 has been shown decorated with decorative patterns and a plain room 103.
- FIG. 2 the cover 100 according to the invention with its face 102R facing outwards; following a simple manipulation, one could however obtain a cover 100 of the same shape having the plain appearance provided by the face 103R.
- the embodiment shown in Figs. 1 and 2 is indeed fully reversible.
- the duvet 101 used has a length and a width very slightly less than that of the part of the cover 100 determined by the first lateral edges 104, the intermediate edges 105, and the anterior edges 107 intended to be turned towards the head 3 mattress 1.
- FIG. 1 different lines in horizontal dashed lines, and in vertical dashed lines, which virtually separate different zones of the cover 100. They simply make it possible to highlight in the description the differentiated treatment of specific zones of the edges 104, 105 and 106 during the confection.
- each of the first lateral edges 104 of a part 102 or 103 does not present any particularity. It is simply sewn with the corresponding front area 109 of the other piece 103 or 102, between the meeting point with the front edge 107 and that with the line 110 in broken lines.
- the posterior zone 111 of each of the first lateral edges 104 is between this latter meeting point and the point situated at the angle formed between this first lateral edge 104 and the intermediate edge 105 which adjoins it.
- the two intermediate edges 105 of the parts 102 and 103 determine the end of a zone delimited elsewhere in FIG. 1 by line 112 in broken lines.
- the anterior region 113 of each of the second lateral edges 106 is substantially perpendicular to the corresponding intermediate edge 105, and has substantially the same length.
- This anterior zone 113 is comprised on the one hand between the meeting point between the intermediate edge 105 and on the other hand the meeting point between the second lateral edge 106 and the line in broken lines 114.
- each of the second lateral edges 106 extends from this last meeting point to the meeting point between the second lateral edge 106 and the posterior edge 108 which adjoins it.
- Each of the posterior zones 115 has substantially the same length as each of the posterior zones 111.
- the invention covers a cover 100 which comprises a holding device 500 which is an integral part thereof; it also covers holding devices 500 for cover for bedding element, which are not necessarily an integral part of such a cover.
- a cover 100 which comprises a holding device 500 which is an integral part thereof; it also covers holding devices 500 for cover for bedding element, which are not necessarily an integral part of such a cover.
- Such devices called, in the following text, "independent holding devices”, can be adapted to existing covers by any suitable means, such as sewing, heat-fixing and use of detachable fixing means.
- releasable fastening means is meant within the scope of this text, for example, pieces of Velcro ®, of snaps, strings or pieces of fabric to be bonded, or any other suitable similar means.
- Such an independent holding device according to the invention can be made of white fabric and for example be fixed to the reverse sides of main fabric pieces of an existing cover, so as not to be almost not visible. If necessary, such a device can then be hidden, if desired, by steering wheels.
- FIGS. 1 and 2 The production of a first embodiment of a holding device 500 according to the invention is described below both with reference to FIGS. 1 and 2 and with reference to FIG. 3, which only illustrates an independent holding device 500 according to the invention.
- This independent holding device 500 could be produced from a pattern comprising, on the one hand, the most posterior part of the part 102, as delimited between the dotted line 110 and the posterior edge 108, and on the other hand share, the corresponding part of the part 103. It is the face 103R which is turned towards the outside of the device 500. In order not to multiply the figures, such a pattern has however not been shown.
- FIG. 3 Illustrated in FIG. 3 the production of a holding device 500 according to the invention.
- edges 104, 105 and 106 of a piece 102 or 103 must be superimposed with the corresponding edge of the other piece 103 or 102, and assembled with the latter, for example by sewing.
- each second lateral edge 106 is assembled with the corresponding intermediate edge 105, which was substantially perpendicular before assembly, and was substantially the same length.
- a first assembly zone 501 of dimensions equal to or slightly greater than that of the thickness of the mattress to which the cover is to be secured, is formed on each side of the holding device 500 - and therefore on each side of the cover 100 in the case of such a cover comprising an integrated holding device 500.
- each second corresponding lateral edge 106 can be assembled with the posterior zone 111 of the corresponding first lateral edge 104, which has substantially the same length.
- a second assembly zone 502 is produced in this way on each side of the holding device 500.
- the production of the holding device 500 generates fold lines 116.
- fold lines 116 When a cover 100 is placed on a mattress 1, as shown in FIG. 2, these fold lines 116, as well as the line 112 are roughly superimposed on the upper edges 4 of the mattress 1.
- the outermost zones of the cover 100 perfectly cover the thickness 5 at the level of the foot 2.
- the line 114 superimposed on the lower edge (not visible in Fig. 2) located at the foot of the mattress 1.
- the retaining device 500 intimately follows the foot 2 over the entire length of the second assembly zone 502.
- the duvet 101 provided with its cover 100 is therefore perfectly held in place at the level of the foot 2.
- the holding device 500 according to the invention ensures good retention of the cover 100 and the duvet 101 over the entire length of the bed.
- the length of the assembly zone 502 is usually of the order of forty centimeters. It will be understood, however, that it can be lower or higher depending on the needs, certain sleepers liking more ease, and others being more cautious.
- a holding device 500 has been illustrated, obtained by sewing elements 105 and 113 to form the first assembly zone 501 and by sewing elements 115 and 111 to form the second assembly zone 502, will not depart from the framework of the invention using other assembly methods to obtain a holding device substantially affecting the shape of a rectangular parallelepiped open on one of its faces, and able to follow the shape of a mattress. So the elements assembled can be joined by other assembly methods than sewing. They can be edges or parts of edges of pieces of fabric, as illustrated. They can also consist of folds, or be a combination of edges and folds.
- the assembly areas do not necessarily have to be such that they can overlap the edges of a mattress. They may for example have an oblique arrangement with respect to these edges or any other configuration suitable for obtaining a holding device according to the invention.
- the cover 100 shown in Figs. 1 and 2 is fully reversible.
- the user can change the decor of his bedding and be in contact with fresh and clean fabrics without having to wash the cover too quickly. He immediately finds an bedding because the cover secures perfectly to the mattress in a jiffy.
- the cover 100 is intended to present an aspect as perfect in its reverse form as in its original form.
- a cover from a pattern comprising for example a piece 102 and a second piece (not shown in the figures) whose posterior edge is extended between the intermediate edges and therefore does not have a narrower part (corresponding to the part delimited by the second lateral edges 106, the posterior edge 108 and the line 112.
- each piece (piece 102 and piece not shown) are sewn together and an area through which a quilt can be introduced remains open between the intermediate edges 105.
- a cover according to the invention which comprises a holding device which is not entirely made of double fabric is not strictly speaking completely reversible, and it may be slightly less aesthetic. However, such an embodiment does not depart from the scope of the invention insofar as the most visible part of the duvet cover when it is in place on the mattress is reversible. It is also possible to produce an independent holding device according to the invention by not using a double fabric for the production of the whole device.
- the cover 100 is advantageously provided with tabs
- 117 reversible, which are sewn in the anterior region 109 near the leading edges 107. They may be provided with releasable fastening means such as Velcro ® and be closed on themselves to form a loop adapted to be secured to a mattress slat, to ensure maximum support during sleep. These legs 117 are particularly interesting for rowdy children or chilly people.
- the front edges 107 of the pieces 102 and 103 are sewn together; the rear edges 108 are then simply hemmed and left free relative to each other, to allow the introduction of a quilt 101.
- they can be provided with detachable fixing means as defined above.
- the front edges 107 may also not be sewn, but attached to one another by such detachable fixing means.
- a duvet 101 can then be introduced from the top of the cover 100 il between the front edges 107.
- the rear edges 108 can be attached together, by sewing or by means of detachable fixing means, or even be free. .
- the rear edges 108 are intended to be wedged under the foot 2 of the mattress 1.
- the cover 100 provided with its quilt 101 is held in place on the bed, and further wedged in such a way that it can in no case come out of the cover 100 through the opening provided between the rear edges 108 without handling this end.
- the integrity appearance of the bed is guaranteed. Even during use, the cover 100 moves very little, and is unlikely to come off the foot 2.
- the pattern of a cover 100 according to the invention may also include a piece of intermediate fabric
- This intermediate piece then has dimensions similar to those of the parts of pieces 102 and 103 which are defined by the edges 104, 105 and 107.
- the assembly of the intermediate piece with the pieces 102 and 103 can for example be carried out by simply sewing together the edges 104, 105 and 107 as described above and by interposing the corresponding edges ( not numbered) of the intermediate piece between said edges.
- Figs. 4 to 7 relate to a cover 200 according to the invention, produced according to a second embodiment, and provided with a holding device 500.
- the pattern illustrated in FIG. 4 is similar to the pattern of the cover 100 described with reference to Figs 1 to 3 with regard to its front part.
- the elements 202 to 207 and 209 to 217 of the cover 200 are identical to the elements 102 to 107 and 109 to 117 of the cover 100.
- the zone 215 of each of the second lateral edges 206 is designated by the name of medium zone 215. It there is however no element carrying the reference sign 208.
- the pieces 202 and 203 of the cover 200 extend from the line 218 shown in dashed lines (which is essentially found at same level as the rear edges 108 of the cover 100), up to the rear edges 219.
- a so-called rear zone 220 extends on each of the second lateral edges 206 between a line 218 and a rear edge 219.
- Fig. 5 illustrates the production of a cover 200 according to the invention.
- the first main piece of fabric 202 and the second main piece of fabric 203 are joined together by their first edges side 204, their intermediate edges 205 and their second side edges 206.
- a holding device 500 is produced in the manner described above by forming assembly areas 501 and 502.
- the posterior areas 220 of the second side edges 206 of the two parts 202 and 203 are sewn two by two together.
- Fig. 6 shows that the cover 200 can be used similarly to the cover 100 and is then fixed on a mattress 1 in the same way.
- the double piece of fabric 221 delimited by the zones 220, the lines 218 and the rear edges 219 can be wedged under the mattress 1, preferably by returning it under the holding device 500, in the direction indicated by the arrow F on the Fig. 6.
- the rear edges 219 are also assembled together by means of detachable fixing means.
- the posterior zones 220 of the second lateral edges 206 are sewn together.
- the anterior zones 209 of the first lateral edges 204 are sewn together.
- the seams obtained are provided with detachable fixing means 222, in this case snaps, clearly visible in Figs. 6 and 7.
- leading edges 207 are preferably assembled by releasable fastening means (e.g., Velcro ®), to allow the introduction of a duvet 201 between the faces to 202V and 203V parts 202 and 203 assemblies.
- releasable fastening means e.g., Velcro ®
- the quilt 201 can be introduced either preferably between the edges 207, or even between the edges 219.
- the cover 200 according to the invention can be used in an original manner as a sleeping bag, as illustrated in FIG. 7. It suffices to remove the cover 200 and its first quilt 201 from the mattress on which the cover is subject, to introduce a second quilt 223 through the opening provided between the rear edges 219, which is then re-joined, and to fix the seams of the areas 209 and 220 to each other by the detachable fixing means 222. In this way a sleeping bag is obtained provided with a washable and reversible cover 200.
- the detachable fastening means must be such that they keep the sleeping bag in the closed position during sleep. Such a sleeping bag has no offensive element and unpleasant contact like zippers.
- the support device 500 allows the sleeper to have a great ease while being well protected during his sleep. It can at any time, and in a jiffy, be transformed back into a conventional duvet cover, which can be secured perfectly on a bed thanks to its holding device 500.
- Figs 8 to 13 illustrate a third embodiment of a cover 300 according to the invention.
- the cover 300 according to the invention is provided with a holding device 600 which is capable of being adapted to the head 3 of a mattress 1, as shown in FIG. 11.
- the pattern comprises six pieces of fabric 301 to 306 which will be assembled to form the cover 300.
- the part 301 is moved and placed so that it overlaps the part 303, so that the rear edge 307 of the part 303 is covered by the line 308 of the part 301.
- the piece 302 is then turned over on its back, as can be seen in Figure 10, and is sewn so that the zone 309 of the part 301, the zone 310 of the part 303 and the zone 311 of the part 302 are, on each side of the cover 300, assembled in a single seam, as indicated by the arrow FI in Figure 10.
- the parts 312 of the lateral edges 313 of the parts 302 and 303 are assembled together as indicated by the arrow F2 in FIG. 10.
- the seam is made up to the intersection, of the lateral edges 313 with the lines 314 .
- the cover 300 comprises, at its part intended to be turned towards the foot 2 of the mattress 1, a structure 700 which is not intended to be subjected thereto.
- This structure 700 recalls that of the holding devices 500 of the covers 100 and 200 according to the first two embodiments. It in fact comprises a first assembly zone 701 and a second assembly zone 702 which are similar to zones 501 and 502.
- the bottom of the cover 300 essentially has the shape of an open rectangular parallelepiped, this which guarantees comfort for the sleeper.
- the formation of zones 701 and 702 from zones 316 and 317 of parts 302 to 306 is illustrated in Figure 9.
- the parts 304, 305 and 306 are assembled by their lateral edges 318 in a similar manner to that provided for the production of the covers 100 and 200.
- the part of the cover 300 ends with the upper edge 319 of the piece 304, which is folded over the top of the cover 300.
- the holding device 600 comprises assembly areas 601 and 602 similar to the areas 501 and 502 of the holding devices 500 already described (see Figure 9).
- Pieces of Velcro 320 are provided in various suitable places illustrated in FIGS. 8, 9,
- the part 306 is an intermediate part which is assembled between the parts 304 and 305. It advantageously makes it possible to introduce into the upper part of the cover 300 two quilts 321 and 322 which remain held in place correctly and do not risk to slide one not relative to the other.
- the cover 300 according to the invention can also, if desired, be provided with three quilts 321, 322, and 323 to obtain a comfortable and fully removable sleeping bag, which can be used on a mattress 1, as illustrated in Figure 11.
- the holding device 600 is secured to the head 3 of this mattress 1.
- the sleeper has great ease for the feet and warmth, and keeping it in the correct position on the mattress during sleep is assured.
- a strip of double fabric 324 fixed to the lower part of the cover 300 by an appropriate means contributes to ensuring the maintenance by surrounding the mattress 1 at its lower part.
- the holding device 600 can be turned over so as to form an envelope for a pillow 325 as shown in FIG. 12.
- the sleeping bag comprising the cover 300 according to the invention, it is sufficient to roll it up in the holding device 600 and to keep it closed by means of the strip 324. Although this does not have been illustrated, we can also advantageously use the bedding elements according to the invention as bedspreads. It suffices to add flounces along the fold lines 116.
