Abstract

A wall for a bath (2), including at least one liftable panel (4) pivotably mounted on a frame, and a spring (20) for assisting lifting of the panel (4). Said wall is provided with portions (24, 26, 28, 30) for deflecting the force of the spring (20) from its point of engagement with the panel (12) to an abutment (26) on the frame (10) when the wall is lowered onto the rim of the shower tray. The deflecting portions include opposed sloping bearing surfaces (28, 30) for dividing the force (1, 3) imparted by the user to cause translation of the wall into a vertical thrust moving the wall and a thrust acting perpendicularly to the spring (20) to move said spring (20) in the transverse direction.

Description

MOYENS D'ASSISTANCE POUR PAROI POUR CABINE DE DOUCHE OU WALL ASSISTANCE MEANS FOR SHOWER ENCLOSURE OR
BAIGNOIRE.BATHTUB.
The invention is in the field of housing amenities, and it relates to a wall, called a shower screen to use a bathtub as a shower tray. There are known walls intended to equip bathtubs to screen against projection. of water out of the tank. These walls include one or more panels connected to each other by sliding or even pivoting, which can rest in abutment against the edge of the tank or alternatively to be raised and folded against the wall above the fittings. A spring, such as a gas spring, provides assistance in lifting the panel (s) by the user.
It is important for the contact of the panel on the edge of the tank to be tight, that the wall weighs with all its weight to compress a joint at the bottom edge of the panel, and that consequently, in the low position of the panel, the spring does not exert thrust against the compression of the joint; it is also important to compensate for any lack of squareness between the frame and the edge of the bathtub.
The wall of the invention is of the type referred to above comprising at least one panel consisting of a frame formed of profiles supporting a glazing, the said panel being slidably mounted along a wall profile fixed to the frame by means of a profile on which it is pivotally mounted, so that the panel can either be pressed against the edge of the tank in a position, called low, or be raised, in a position called high, and be folded against the frame above valves, said wall being equipped with lifting assistance means comprising a spring, gas in particular, housed in the wall profile and interposed in compression between support members respectively supported by the intermediate profile and the wall profile, so that the spring exerts a upward thrust on the intermediate section slightly greater than the weight of the panel.
To meet the above requirements, the inventive step consisted in equipping the wall with means for deflecting the thrust of the spring from the support it takes on the support member supported by the intermediate section, towards a stop supported by the wall profile, when the wall is brought to the low position.
It follows from these provisions that the spring no longer exerting upward thrust on the wall in the low position, the latter can naturally rest with all its weight on the edge of the bathtub.
Advantageously, said deflection means comprise means for breaking down the force provided by the user to move the wall in translation with a view to raising or lowering it, into a vertical thrust inducing said movement of the wall by a part, and in a thrust perpendicular to the general orientation of the spring inducing a transverse offset thereof on the other.
The result of these provisions is an automatic implementation of said deflection means for placing the spring, either in abutment against the support member supported by the intermediate profile, or in abutment against the stop supported by the wall profile, depending of the direction of displacement in translation of the wall. In other words, the user has means of assistance in lifting the wall which he uses to raise the wall or alternatively that he retracts when the wall is lowered, without him having without worrying, that is, make additional gestures to those aimed at raising and lowering the panel.
For example, the deflection means comprise antagonistic inclined bearing planes formed respectively on the stop and on said panel lifting support member, the distance d transversely separating the stop from the lifting support member of the panel being less than the transverse size thereof, such so that the spring, depending on the upward or downward thrust exerted by the user on the panel, takes a sliding bearing alternately along each of the inclined planes, and finally is acted alternately towards the stop or the supporting member for lifting the panel, abutment and support member against which it alternately bears when these are in a position overhanging it.
It will be understood that, in an equivalent manner and without departing from the general rule stated and illustrated in this example:
1.- les dits plans inclinés peuvent être soit courbes, soit plans, et peuvent être indifféremment ménagés, soit sur la partie du ressort prenant appui sur la butée et sur l'organe d'appui de relevage du panneau, et/ou sur la butée et le dit organe appui.1.- the said inclined planes can be either curved or planar, and can be indifferently arranged, or on the part of the spring bearing on the stop and on the support member for lifting the panel, and / or on the stop and said support member.
2.- dans le cas où 1 ' articulation de la paroi s'effectuerait entre le profilé intermédiaire et le profilé mural, le panneau serait monté coulissant le long du profilé intermédiaire et le ressort prendrait appui contre le profilé intermédiaire et sur le panneau en vue de son relevage, et que les dispositions relatives à 1 'agencement des moyens de déviation préférés de l'invention seraient alors appliquées en correspondance pour le profilé intermédiaire et pour le profilé du cadre du panneau en vis à vis sur celui-ci, de la même manière que cela vient d'être décrit respectivement pour le profilé mural et le profilé intermédiaire.2.- in case the articulation of the wall takes place between the intermediate profile and the wall profile, the panel would be slidably mounted along the intermediate profile and the spring would bear against the intermediate profile and on the panel in view of its lifting, and that the provisions relating to one arrangement of the preferred deflection means of the invention would then be applied in correspondence for the intermediate profile and for the profile of the frame of the panel opposite thereon, of the same way as has just been described respectively for the wall profile and the intermediate profile.
The present invention will be better understood, and details will become apparent from the description which will be made of a preferred embodiment, in connection with the figures of the appended plates, in which: FIGS. 1 and 2 are illustrations of a wall of the kind of which the invention relates, placed in its context of use, FIGS. 3 and 4 are successive diagrams of the invention, according to a preferred embodiment, fig.5 and 6 are sectional views, respectively longitudinal and transverse of a wall of one invention according to the preferred embodiment illustrated in the previous diagrams, fig.7 is a detail of fig.6, the Fig.8 is a partial perspective view partially broken away of a wall illustrated in the previous views.
In FIGS. 1 and 2, a bathtub 2 is equipped with a wall composed of several panels, such as 4, hinged to each other and consisting of glazing 6 supported by a frame formed from profiles, such as 8. An end panel 4 is slidably mounted along a wall profile 10, by means of a profile 12 on which it is pivotally mounted 14, so that the panels 4 can either be lowered into a position low resting against the edge 16 of the bath 2 (fig.l), or be raised to a high position to be folded over the tap 18 (fig.2). In FIGS. 5 and 6, a gas spring 20 exerts a thrust greater than the weight of the wall to provide the user with assistance in lifting the latter, the spring 20 being housed in the wall profile 10 and bearing on a member 22 fixed on the wall profile on the one hand, and on a member 24 supported by the intermediate profile 12. So that the panels 4 making up the wall rest in a sealed manner on the edge 16 of the bath 2, the invention proposes to break the support of the spring 20 on the wall so that the latter naturally rests with all its weight on the edge 16 of the bath 2.
3 and 4, the thrust of the spring 20 is deflected between two supports, from one under the support member 24 supported by the intermediate profile 12, to another under a stop 26 supported by the wall profile 10. Support planes 28 and 30 antagonists are respectively provided on the stop 26 and on the support member 24 of the spring 20 on the intermediate section 12. It will be noted that the distance d separating transversely the stop 26 and said support member 24 is less than the transverse size of the spring 20. The support planes 28 and 30 transversely bias the spring 20 and places it in engagement, either under the stop 26 under the effect of 'a downward movement (arrow 1) of the intermediate section 12, as illustrated in fig.4 and dotted in fig.5 and 8, either under said support member 24 under the effect of a upward movement (arrow 3) of the intermediate section 12, as illustrated in figs. 3, 5 and 8.
Thus structured, the wall 4 is automatically freed from any upward constraint to rest naturally on the edge 16 of the bathtub 2 when it is lowered by the user, and automatically placed under the pushing effect of the spring 20 when it is raised.
It will be understood that it is sufficient to naturally rest the wall 4 on the edge of the tank to deflect the thrust exerted by the spring 20 of the support it takes on the panel 4, and that the presence of the stop 22 to 1 against the expansion of the spring 20, which would be without this presence freed from any compression, makes it possible to place the spring 20 again on its path for lifting the panel 4. In FIGS. 5 to 8, which illustrate a shape preferred embodiment of the invention according to which the inclined planes 28 and 30 are formed on the stop 26 and the said support member 24:
The stop 26 supported by the wall profile 10 is formed of an elongated trapezoid rod, made of plastic for example, extending over a length substantially equivalent to that of the spring 20, for maintaining the latter along its axis d expansion, or in other words to avoid bending of the spring 20 when the panel 4 is in the high position; the rod 26 is preferably attached, for example by gluing, in a corridor 32, called the first, formed inside the wall profile 10. the support member 24 for lifting the " panel 4" is shaped as a short trapezoid and is attached, for example by screwing, against an external face of the intermediate section 12, the latter being slidably mounted in a corridor 34, called the second, formed in the wall profile 10 opposite the first corridor 32.
According to another aspect of the invention, the intermediate section 12 is guided with play along the second corridor 34 by means of a pair of roller trains 36 which it supports at each of its ends.
The result of these provisions is a certain seal between the entire wall and the edge 16 of the tray 2 notwithstanding a bad squaring between the frame 38 and the edge 16 of the tray 2, due to the possibility for each of the panels 4 to take a respective support on the edge 16 of the tray 2 thanks to the presence of said clearance.
Note in Fig.7 the judicious structure of the roller trains 36, the rollers 40 and 42 making up each of said trains 36 being connected to each other by slightly floating interlocking.
Although a preferred embodiment of the invention has been described and shown, it should be understood that the scope of the latter is not limited to this form but that it extends to any wall having the characteristics set out above.
