Definitions

  • This invention is concerned with an end sealing arrangement for louvres which have been attached by means of spindles to the register of an air conditioning duct or other such channel, which arrangement includes a sealing fitted on the framework of the register and, coming against that sealing, sealing surfaces provided at the louvre ends coming against the framework.
  • An end sealing arrangement in accordance with the invention is characterized by that the sealing fitted on the framework is a one-piece sealing, preferably of rubber, and runs essentially along a line that goes via the spindles of the louvres, that the number of the sealing surfaces is two and they run essentially in the longitudinal direction of the end of the louvre and face opposite directions, and that the sealing surfaces have been formed on an end piece fitted on the louvre.
  • An advantageous embodiment of an end sealing arrangement in accordance with the invention is characterized by that the end piece of the louvre covers essentially the whole end of the louvre, and that the sealing surfaces run in relation to each other along different lines.
  • Yet another advantageous embodiment of an end sealing arrangement in accordance with the invention is characterized by that the sealing surface is in relation to the longitudinal normal plane of the end piece so inclined that it slants away from the framework sealing coming against it.
  • the sealing effect of the sealing is very good because when the louvre is being closed the inclined surface of the end piece steplessly tightens the end piece against the one-piece sealing of the framework. Thanks to the one-piece sealing the installation of the sealing can be done more simply since only one groove or the like is needed in which the sealing will be fitted. By means of centering elements the louvre can be held in the direction of the spindle in exactly the right position, which also ensures that the good sealing effect is maintained.
  • Fig. 1 shows from the direction of flow an embodiment of the register with the louvres closed
  • Fig. 2 shows one end of a louvre of the register, equipped with an end piece in accordance with the invention
  • Fig. 3 shows from the side an end piece fitted on the louvre (dashed line)
  • Fig. 4 shows a section along line IV-IV in Figure 2
  • Fig. 5 shows a section along line V-V in Figure 1.
  • Figure 1 shows a register consisting of an essentially rectangular framework 2 and of turnable louvres 3 attached to it by means of spindles 4. In this embodiment there are three louvres, but the number is in no way restricted.
  • edge sealings 5 Between the louvres can be so-called edge sealings 5.
  • Figure 2 shows one end of a louvre of the register, equipped with an end piece 6.
  • the end piece is shaped to match with the profile of the louvre, which in this example is in the middle slightly thicker than elsewhere.
  • the shape of the louvre profile and accordingly the shape of the end piece 6 can naturally vary to meet any specific requirements.
  • Round the spindle, on opposite sides of it have been formed two essentially similar centering elements 7. Those surfaces of the centering elements which come against the framework 2 are essentially plane. These centering elements keep the louvre 3 in the direction of the spindle 4 in exactly the right position, thus ensuring that the good sealing effect is maintained.
  • sealing surfaces 8,9 which face opposite directions and which, when the louvre is in the closed position, come against the sealing 10 fitted on the framework 2 of the register 1 (see Fig.5).
  • the sealing surfaces start from the spindle 4 of the louvre 3 and extend to the opposite edges of the louvre.
  • the sealing surfaces run in relation to each other in different lines, both being at an equal distance from the centre line so that the one-piece sealing 10 on the
  • the profile of the end piece 6 is seen in the section shown in Figure 4.
  • the sealing surface 9 is preferably somewhat inclined in relation to the longitudinal normal plane of the end piece 6, due to which the match between the sealing surface 9 and the sealing 10 coming against it is
  • the sealing surface 9 joins the surface 11 of the end piece in a curve; the surface 11 of the end piece is also inclined and rises towards the sealing surface 9. Owing to the inclined shape of the surface 11, the sealing 10 tightens smoothly against the end piece when the sealing surface 9 approaches the sealing 10 during the closing of the louvre.
  • the end piece 6 also comprises walls 12, which come inside the louvre 3 when installing the end piece 6 on it.
  • the fastening of the end piece to the louvre can be secured with screws, rivets or similar elements (not shown in the
  • the section in Figure 5 shows how the sealing surface 9 of the end piece 6 comes against the one-piece sealing 10 fitted on the framework 2 of the register, the sealing 10 running essentially along a line that goes via the spindles 4 of the louvres 3.
  • the sealing 10 is preferably a tubular rubber sealing and fitted either in a groove made for it or by means of a separate lath (not shown). It is obvious to a person skilled in the art that the embodiments of the invention are not restricted to the examples given above, but can be varied within the scope of the following patent claims.
