Definitions

  • the invention relates to a panel e.g. an additional window arranged at the area of a wall opening, said panel comprising a mounting frame of profile material having at least one base part of essentially U-shaped cross-section and a plate-shaped element e.g. a pane arranged therein by its rims, the base part being formed by a glass profile having an essentially L-shaped cross-section and a glass fillet connected herewith, the connection comprising a groove and an extension engaging said groove.
  • a panel is known from DE-A 2537364.
  • connection is formed herein on the glas fillet and has two limbs which can be urged towards one another by elastic deformation of the glass fillet and be inserted in this state into the groove of the glass profile. At the elastic return into position one of said limbs snaps behind a rim of the groove wall. Since elastic material is necessarily used, the connection of the glass fillet with the glass profile can withstand only feeble forces. When the plate-shaped element is struck in the direction towards the glass fillet, the glass fillet risks being pushed out of the glass profile.
  • Object of the present invention is to provide a panel of the kind set forth in the preamble, which does not exhibit said disadvantages.
  • the profile material consists of a relatively inflexible substance and on its wall facing the interior of the U the extension of the connection has a cam profile which grips behind a cam profile on the opposite wall of the groove when the glass fillet deflects outwardly.
  • the connection becomes the firmer the heavier is the force exerted on the plate-shaped element in the direction towards the glass fillet. Under any condition the glass fillet remains connected with the glass profile until the material breaks down mechanically.

  • connection When the connection is proportioned so that, when the connecting parts are in engagement in the no-load state the glass fillet and the limb of the glass profile not connected with the former slightly converge towards the free ends, the glass fillet and said limb will be parallel to one another, when the pane is arranged in the profile with the interposition of flexible material, owing to the force exerted by the flexible material.
  • a strip connected by fastening members with at least the glass fillet is employed in accordance with the invention, said strip having a web, at least one resilient tongue protruding from said web and engaging the pane and a thickened part that can be readily torn away from the web. Up to a given thickness the pane can be retained by the thickened part of the strip. If panes of larger thickness have to be mounted, the thickened part is simply torn away from the strip so that more space becomes available.
