[Term of Patent 3?; years To all when: it may concern Be it known that I, 'll-IQMAS HENRY COPE- LAND, of the town of Geddes, in the county of Onondaga and State of New York, have invented a Design for a Dish of Pottery-\Vare, of which the following is a specification:
The nature of my design is fully represented in the accompanying photographic illustration, to which reference is made. It consists in ornamenting the exterior of the dish with leaves similar to those found in opposite position on moldings of the Ionic order, which ornament is brought out in relief by a slight concavity in the leaves and projections of their edges, and the intervening stems or branches. They extend from the base to within a short distance from the top, at which point the dish Widens by an easy and graceful curve, and terminates in scallops or a waving line around the edge.
In the accompanying photographic illustration, a a are the leaves, having stems b b between them, and forming the Ionic ornament on the exterior of the dish. 0 c is the waving or scalloped edge around the top, so arranged with reference to the ornament underneath as to bring the center of the intervening branch in the center of the projecting portion of the top edge, and thereby appropriately and taste fully ornament that part.
What I claim as my invention is- A design for a dish 01" pottery-ware, having its exterior ornamented by leaves a a, and intervening stems I) b of the Ionic order brought out in relief, as described, and its top curved outward and scalloped with reference to the ornament underneath, so as to bring the projecting portion (l of the top edge over the center of the stem 1), substantially as specified and shown.
