Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FREDERICK E. KALDENBERG, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
DESIGN FOR A PIPE-STEM.
SPEGIFICATION forming part of Design No. 16,095, dated May 19, 1885.
Application tiled August 14, 1884. Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom it may concern,.-
Be it known that I, FREDERICK R. KALDEN- BERG, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented and produced anew and original Design for PipeStems, of which the following is a speciiication, reference being had to the accompanying` drawing, which forms a part thereof.
The object of my invention is to furnish a novel and effective design for the stems of smoking-pipes; and the design consists in a new and original shape or configuration and ornamentation of the lower portion of the stem connecting with the bowl of the pipe.
The nature ot' my design is i'ullyillustrated in the drawing, which represents in side elevation a pipe-stem and connected bowl.
ct is the main vertical part of the stem, b,the lower portion, which merges in the bowl o.
My design consists in a new and original shape or configuration ofthe portion b of the stem, also in a new and original ornamentation of the said portion, all as will be fully set forth.
The general contour of the part b is round, and its top edge is capped by a band, d. In
its outer contour it curves inward until it meets the bottom, and from the top edge the size of the stem gradually increases, so that its lower part e is of the greatest diameter or thickness, from which point it branches off at a direct angle,1 as shown at f, tapering from its middlej or enlarged portion e to the tip of the said branch f. On the upper edge of the branch is an ornamental cap, g. Upon the surface of the stem is represented theleatlike design or Iigure h, which extends over the lower part of the branch f, and is completed bythe scroll-edge i. On the lower part of the stem is the ornamental pendantj, to give it a finished appearance.
Vhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The design for pipe-stems, consisting of a pipe-stein having its lower or body portion diminishing in size from its central area toward the three terminal points of the stem, as shown and described.
2. The design for pipe-stems, consisting of the stem Z1, having the enlarged portion e, tapering branch j", with cap g, and pendant j, as set forth.
3. The design for a pipe-stem, consisting of the stein b, having branch f, with the scrolledged leaf ornamentation 7L i, as shown.
FREDERICK E. KALDENBERG.
