- UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN B. VAN HOUTEN, OF NEWARK, NE\V JERSEY.
DESIGN FOR AN EAR-RING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 14,861, dated March 4, 1884.
Application filed November 21, 1883. Term of patent 7 years.
.To all whom it may concern.- I
Be it known that I, JOHN B. VANHOUTEN,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New 5 Jersey, have invented and produced a certain new and original Design for Ear-Rings; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings. and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure 1 is a front elevation, and Fig. 2 is a side elevation, these views being deemed necessary to fully illustrate the design.
The leading feature of this design consists in the ear-ring pendant having the configuration substantially as described. The body portion a of said pendant is loop-shaped, the upper portion, b, of the band which forms the loop being quite narrow, as viewed in front elevation, where it connects with the ear-plate c,and gradually widens toward the lowerportion of the pendant, where the outer edges are dentate. Horizontally across the front of the body portion of the pendant, as at d, the latter is banshaped, and at the middle, as at e, of said bar shaped portion the pendant is shaped in resemblance to a band surrounding said bar-shaped portion.
That I claim is- The design for an ear-ring, the same consisting of an ear-ring provided with a pendant shaped substantially as herein shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 16th day of Xovember, 1883.
JOHN B. "AX HOUTEX.
