DESIGN FOR PICKLE AND PRESERVE JARS.

Specification forming part of Design No. 8,284, dated April 27,1675; application tiled April 17,1875. [Term of Patent 7 years] To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, (Jr-mamas A. Do Viv- 115R, of Summit, Union county, New Jersey, and EDWARD DU VIVIER, of N ew York, New York county, New York, have invented eertuin new and usei'ul Improvements in a Design for Pickle and Preserve Jars, of which the following is a specification This invention relates to an improved design for ornamenting bottles, jars, &c., the nature of which is fully represented in the accompanying drawing. to which reference is made.

The letter A represents a quadrilateral jar, formed with sides tapering from the shoulders a a to the bottom, the shoulders being rounded or arched toward the neck B, which is formed with a series of annular heads, I; b, as illustrated; but it is evident that they may be vertically arranged on the neck. Each side or face of the bottle or jar is provided with an ornamental raised bead, extending around the edges thereof, parallel with the corners, bottom, and arched shoulders thereof, as indicated by the letters 0. At the sides of said ornamental border, near the corners of thejar or the bottle, and running parallel with the same and with the sides of said ornamental border, are formed a series of grooves, D D, which give the corners the shape of a projecting bead extending from the arched shoulders at a to the bottom of thejar, and serving as an ornamental border to the body of the jar or bottle. Any number of ornamental raised annnlar beads may be formed around the neck of the bottle or jar, and they may be made of the same or varying sizes. \Ve prefer, however, to form three such beads, the lower two being equal in size, the upper one being considerably larger. l or conveniently holding the cork and the sealing-cap, a portion of the neck above the bottle for a short distance above the heads is made straight within and slightly rounded or headed on the outside, as shown by the letter E, l ig'. 2. The various ornamental devices are formed upon the bottle by means oi the mold during" casting, as will be clearly understood by those skilled in the manufacture of glassware.

Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

The design for a bottle, consisting of a tapering quadrilateral body with shoulders arched toward the neck, the neck being ornamented with beads, and the body with raised ornamental borders with grooves running parallel to the same at each side, substantially in the manner above set forth and described.
