BOTTLE-CLOSURE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 781,182, dated January 31, 1905.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HENRY S. BREWINGTON,

- a citizen of the United States, residing in Baltimore city and State of Maryland, have in- Vented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottle-Closures, of which the following is a specification.

View through the vertical center of the same Fig. 5 is a'modification in which the upper end of the stopper is open instead of the lower end; and Fig. 6 is a modification in which the lower end is straight instead of tapered, as in.

A represents a bottle-neck, and 1 is a bead molded in its mouth.

B is the stopper. This is preferably fashioned from moderately thin sheet metal and consists of the head 2, which in Figs. 1, 3, 4, and 6 is closed, the neck 3 conforming to and adapted to fit as near as possible the bead 1 and the corrugated lower ende, which in Figs. 1, 3, 4, and 5 tapers, that being the preferred construction, but which obviously might be straight or cylindrical, as in Fig. 6.

The corrugated lower end 4 is made so in formed which may be easily and quickly applied and will perform the functions required of it, forming an air and liquid tight closure.

It is evident that other slight changes in addition to those shown and described might be resorted to in the form and arrangement of the several parts described without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention, and hence I do not wish to be limited to the exact construction herein set forth; but,

Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. As an article of manufacture a bottlestopper comprising a head, a constricted neck adapted to receive the-bead of a bottle-neck, and a yielding corrugated portion, which springs past the bead and expands beneath it, whereby to hold the stopper in the bottle.

2. As an article of manufacture, a sheetmetal stopper comprising a hollow head, neck and corrugated portion.

3. The combination with a bottle-neck having a bead formed in its mouth, of a hollow sheet-metal stopper comprising an enlarged upper end, a constricted neck, and a yielding corrugated lower portion, the portion of the corrugated end adjacent the neck of greater diameter than the bead, and adapted to be forced by the latter and expand beneath it.
