Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSIAH LE'ICHWORTH, OF BUFFALO, NEW YORK.
DESIGN FOR COCKEY'E.`
Specification forming part of Design No. 6,151, dated September 24, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J OsIAH LETOHWORTH, of the city of Buffalo, in the county of Erie and State of New York, have invented or produced a new and original Design for Oockeye for Harness, of which the following is a speci;
iication:
My design consists of the peculiar construction and arrangement of the loop ofthe cockeye and the cross-bar with which it connects.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure I is an elevation of a cockeye madeafter my new design.
' and slightly oblong in cross-section at its apex,
whence the thickness of the metal gradually diminishes toward the iat cross-bar B. The
Fig. II is an elevation at right al1- gles to Fig. I; and Fig. III is a vertical secsides of the loop A are so connected with the latter that the opening of the cockeye begins directly at the cross-bar B, leaving no intervening neck or connecting shank between the loop and the cross-bar` as heretofore constructed, thereby rendering the cockeye more compact and neater in appearance. The crossbar B is flat, and corresponds in thickness with the ends of the loop A. Its inner edge is made slightly convex, While its outer edge is beveled off on .both sides so as to present a ridge, as clearly shown at b in Figs. II and III. Atthe apex of the elliptical or inner part of the loop Aythe cross-bar is beveled oli' in a similar manner, as shown at c. The ends of the cross-bar B are turned at right angles to theman portion and terminate in flat disks which receive the bolt to which the tug or trace is secured.
I claim as my invention- The design of the loop A and cross-bar of cockeye, as hereinl shown and described.
J OSIAH LETGHWORTH. Witnesses:
