DESIGN FOR A FRAME FOR A MIRROR.
Specification forming part of Design No. 5,457, dated January 2, 1872.
Specification describing a Design for a Frame for Mirrors, &c. invented by WILLIAM G. URoss, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The nature of my design is fully represented in the accompanying drawing, which shows one-half only of the frame, the latter consisting of the base A, two side columns B, and the entablature I). The base consists of a plain molding, a, carried round the foot b of each column, where it forms the lowest member of a base, d, supporting the ornament c, the character of which is too clearly indicated in the drawing to need description, the said ornament and its base standing out from the face of the column, as shown. Each column is also ornamented at the top by a figure, f, standing out from the face of the column, and the latter, which may be of any length, has on its face, between the figures f and e, a tablet, h, of the character shown. There is on the outside of each column, immediately below the entablature, a side ornament, At the junction of each column with the entablature there is an ornamental medallion, j. The en tablature is characterized by a plain lower bead, k, and a plain upper molding, m, which, at m, follows the shape of an offset of the entablature, this offset being immediately above the column. The portion m of the molding is surmounted with an ornament, a, in line with the column. In the center of the entablatnre there is a shield, 11, over the top of which the molding m is continued in an arched form, as shown at m"; and the entablature is surmounted with acentral ornament, q terminating at an offset, 8, in the molding. The details of this central ornament are too clearly shown in the drawing to need description. On each side of the central shield the entablatnre has an ornament, t, and between the latter and the column there is on the entablature a tablet, c. On each side of the main central ornament of the entablature, and on the top of the same, there is an ornament, w, and below the entablature there is a rib, av m, which is a continuation of the inner edges of the two columns, and which follows the course pointed out.
I claim as my invention- 1. The design of the base I) d of the column of a frame, substantially as described and shown.
2. The design of the ornament e, substantially as illustrated and described.
3. The design of the ornamental lower portion of the column of a frame, the said lower portion comprising the members I), d, and e.
